Chapter 178: Let's Begin! The Basilisk
Allen didn't hesitate much before jumping down; before coming, he had watched the memory of Yoder controlling Ron to come here in his Thought Chamber, so he knew this pipe held no danger.
The sensation was like rushing down a dark, sticky, endless slide at high speed.
He could see many other pipes branching off in all directions, but none were as thick as this one; this pipe twisted and turned, winding this way and that, sloping steeply all the way down.
Allen knew he had slid to a place very, very deep beneath the school, even deeper than those underground classrooms.
Then he suddenly hit the ground; the water pipe became horizontal, and he popped out of the pipe mouth, falling with a "plop" onto the damp floor.
This was a dark stone tunnel, large enough for a person to stand inside.
The sound of his fall echoed in the empty space.
He squinted, examining the dark, sticky walls around him.
He drew his wand and summoned several orbs of light that danced in the air; the light they emitted cast his shadow onto the wet walls, making him look like a monster.
"Let's go!" Yoder appeared from the diary; he looked like a ghost, his body semi-transparent.
"When did you gain this ability?" Allen asked in surprise.
"After absorbing the life force of a few Acromantulas," Yoder glanced at him and said calmly.
Allen raised an eyebrow and didn't continue the topic.
"I need to arm myself here!" Allen took out a Poké Ball, released two Blade Leopards from it, and ordered them to stand guard; before seeing the Basilisk, the situations the Blade Leopards could handle were more numerous.
Then he took out the magic materials he had prepared long ago from inside—two phoenix tail feathers and a scale from a Hungarian Horntail dragon.
Actually, there were quite a few magic materials stored in the Poké Ball; he had spent all his Jin Jin Jialong for today, and the Poké Ball also held food and water enough to last over ten days, plus plenty of healing potions.
He skillfully modified his memories; in a moment, he had transformed phoenix wings and eyes, and the glands used by fire dragons for breathing fire.
Then he took out a full set of mithril armor he had pre-transformed from the Poké Ball; the armor had already been painted a gold-red color matching the phoenix wings...
Openings for the phoenix wings had been reserved on the back of the armor; he used the Levitation Charm to make the entire set of armor float in the air, and in no time he finished putting it on.
Once Allen finished dressing, his aura changed greatly; the gold-red wings and armor, plus the long decorative feathers on his head, made him appear majestic, grim, and mysterious.
Yoder didn't know Allen had prepared a set of armor; he watched with great interest as Allen armed himself.
"You always bring me surprises; this is the first time I've seen a wizard fight wearing armor. Can you fly like this?" Yoder circled Allen several times.
"Then you are ignorant; I heard wizards in Poland all fight wearing armor!" Allen casually tossed out a joke Yoder could never understand.
He moved his body; the armor fit well and didn't reduce his physical agility; his feet went "clack-clack" on the damp ground, making a loud noise.
He felt the glands on his neck secreting magical fluid.
He spread the wings behind him and then slowly flapped them; the wings generated considerable lift under the action of air and magic; he had cast a Levitation Charm on himself beforehand, so the wings now only served to adjust speed and direction, and his own body weight could be ignored.
Yoder also saw what Allen had done; he was even more surprised. "This is a genius idea! I never thought the Levitation Charm could be used this way."
Allen didn't respond to Yoder; this method was something he had just thought of.
He flew forward slowly, while the Blade Leopards merged into the darkness...
He noticed bones of small animals scattered all over the ground.
When he turned a dark bend in the tunnel,
he saw the outline of a massive coiled creature lying motionless on the other side of the tunnel.
He increased his alertness and altitude, flying over lightly.
Light fell on a huge snakeskin, emerald-green and very vivid; it was clearly the skin of a venomous snake, coiled and lying on the tunnel floor, empty inside. Obviously, the animal that shed this skin was at least 50 feet long.
Hearing "50 feet" doesn't sound long, but standing before a 50-foot-long snakeskin, Allen still felt deeply shocked.
After the shock passed, he planned to store this snakeskin in the Poké Ball after defeating the Basilisk; it looked like this snakeskin could fetch a lot of Jin Jin Jialong, so it couldn't be left here to go to waste.
Yoder was even more surprised in his heart; he didn't expect Allen to remain unshaken upon seeing such a huge snakeskin, considering this was only a 12-year-old young wizard.
Allen didn't notice Yoder's surprise; he continued flying forward, then discovered a solid wall standing ahead, carved with two intertwined snakes, their eyes inlaid with large, glittering green gems.
This time, without Allen speaking, Yoder stepped forward and emitted a low, hoarse hissing sound.
The two snakes parted; the stone wall cracked down the middle, slowly slid to both sides, and vanished; Allen flew resolutely into the Chamber of Secrets.
Once inside the Chamber of Secrets, Allen summoned more orbs of light, then flew upward; he wanted to first figure out the terrain of the chamber, especially its height.
The final exploration results disappointed him somewhat; the highest point of the chamber was only 13 meters high, the lowest only seven or eight meters high, while the Basilisk was 18 meters long; this meant that even if Allen flew to the highest point, he couldn't guarantee he wouldn't be attacked by the Basilisk.
So he still needed to move quickly and fight a war of movement.
At this moment, Yoder had already walked to the base of the huge statue of Salazar Slytherin at the end of the chamber.
Yoder opened his mouth and emitted a hissing sound—
Slytherin's huge stone-carved face began to move. Harry, in extreme terror, saw its mouth open, opening wider and wider, until it formed a huge black hole.
Something was moving inside the statue's mouth; something was slithering upward with a rustling sound from the depths of the statue...
A large, flat, green head appeared in that black hole; it stared at Allen with big, yellow eyes, and Allen's eyes also emitted a golden light, gazing back at it without fear.
It was somewhat surprised that the red prey hadn't died under its gaze; it could smell an aura that it extremely disliked emanating from that gold-red prey.
It angrily opened its mouth and let out a deafening roar at Allen; countless thin, long fangs like daggers were exposed in its mouth...
