Chapter 183: Submission

~6 min read 1,130 words

Allen gently landed on the ground, his mithril war boots making a crisp sound as they struck the surface; the ground was covered in the basilisk's fresh blood, and stepping on it felt slick...

He was far from the basilisk; the creature's cunning had left a deep impression on him, so he had no intention of approaching it at all.

His gaze swept past the hill-sized basilisk and settled on the translucent figure at the far end of the secret chamber.

The phoenix's eyes granted him exceptional vision, allowing him to clearly see every subtle change in Yoder's facial expression.

Yoder remained calm; they simply stared at each other across a distance of over a hundred meters...

Allen involuntarily puffed out his chest; although his entire body ached terribly, his eyes were filled with determination and pride.

He knew his appearance was utterly wretched, but he simply refused to lose face in this staring contest...

The two stared silently at each other, both ignoring the dying basilisk between them...

Finally, Yoder slowly lowered his head; this was the first time he had made this gesture before Allen. He gently lowered his eyelids, voluntarily ending the stare, and bowed to Allen with elegant precision.

"You have earned my approval!" Yoder spoke these words softly; they crossed the hundred-meter distance and sounded gently in Allen's ear.

When Yoder raised his head again, a trace of respect had appeared in his eyes; though faint, Allen keenly caught it.

Hearing these words, Allen's expression relaxed slightly; he felt incomparably gratified in his heart. "You made the right decision; I hope you will remember these words forever." He spoke regardless of whether Yoder could hear him.

Yoder clearly heard these words; he and the black diary flew toward Allen together.

"I will!" The translucent Yoder quickly arrived before Allen, lowered his head, and whispered.

This plain sentence seemed to contain a thousand words; all previous calculations vanished into thin air with these words.

Allen also felt the weight of these words; he nodded slightly, not intending to dwell on this topic further. Let the past be the past.

"Was that basilisk really that weak?" Alu looked at the distant basilisk and asked aloud, "Since you can control it, you must know its true current state."

Yoder's black eyes also turned toward the distant basilisk. "Its life force is constantly draining; its heart is filled with fear and attachment to this world. It is very weak now and has lost all power to counterattack."

Hearing Yoder's words, Allen flew up again, then gently landed before the basilisk; Yoder, carrying the diary, followed closely behind.

Standing before the basilisk, Allen once again marveled at its immense size; yet now this creature of boundless vitality was nearing death; its life force was like a candle flickering in the wind.

The green scales on its body had lost their luster and turned dull and gray.

Sensing Allen's approach, it weakly opened its intact right eye, let out a feeble cry, and then lowered its head again in exhaustion...

Allen then noticed tears glistening in its eyes, filled with attachment to this world and reluctance to depart, as if there was even a hint of pleading?

Allen confirmed he had not misseen; he had indeed seen a trace of pleading in the basilisk's eyes...

"It is submitting to you!" Yoder suddenly spoke up.

"So what?" Allen raised an eyebrow; for this terrifying monster that had nearly killed him, he felt not a shred of sympathy.

"It nearly killed me just now; how could I possibly spare it?" Allen said in a mocking tone. "If I had failed now, I am sure it would have swallowed me without hesitation rather than listen to my pleas!"

"This is its fate!" Allen sighed,

wishing to end this topic.

"Actually, I suggest you save it!" Yoder said somewhat hesitantly.

Allen suddenly turned his head to look at Yoder. "Are you crazy? Why should I save it? Besides, I simply cannot save it."

"It is a good helper, and it has already been defeated by you; if you save it, you will gain its loyalty." Yoder hesitated before speaking.

"What if I gain its loyalty? With such a huge body, I barely manage to feed myself now, let alone feed such a large basilisk; one meal for it would be enough for me to eat for three years..." Allen said very realistically.

"It can hunt for itself..." Yoder continued, but was cut off decisively by Allen.

"Why are you so persistent in wanting me to save it?" Allen stared intently into Yoder's black eyes. "Give me your real reason!"

"We must deal with Voldemort in the future; going alone is impossible. Voldemort has an army; with the basilisk, our strength will increase greatly!" Yoder said firmly, showing no fear of Allen's gaze.

After hearing this, Allen was actually somewhat tempted; the basilisk's combat power was truly terrifying, and on a battlefield it would indeed be a great weapon, but reality did not allow him to make such a decision.

He looked at Yoder, shook his head, and said, "This reason is somewhat convincing, but it is not enough!"

"Oh—" Yoder said somewhat disappointedly, then fell silent.

Allen also sighed, turned his head, and walked toward the exit...

"Wait!" Yoder behind him suddenly spoke; his voice was filled with inexplicable emotion. "I am a prisoner confined for decades, and it is a prisoner confined for over a thousand years; I..." Yoder paused here, "It reminds me of myself; I just want to help it as best I can!"

Allen stopped; this was the first time he had heard Yoder speak in such a tone; he could feel the emotion within Yoder's words.

He began to truly consider the feasibility of this matter.

Having a basilisk as a combat force actually sounds not bad!

Allen was somewhat tempted.

The basilisk seemed to sense something; although it grew weaker and weaker, it still managed to place its head before Allen, its eyes full of submission...

"I do not deny this is a good idea, but there are several problems that simply cannot be solved," Allen said.

"First, I cannot ensure I can truly control the basilisk; note that it is me controlling it, not you controlling it with Parseltongue!"

"Second, I simply cannot heal the basilisk's severe injuries; my meager healing potions are but a drop in the bucket."

"Third, I simply cannot afford to feed the basilisk; underground, it cannot hunt much, and I would absolutely never bring it into Hogwarts."

"Actually, there are ways to solve these three problems," Yoder said with great confidence.

His gaze fell upon the Poké Ball in Allen's hand...
