Chapter 187: The Witch and the Knight
This was precisely the question Alan was unwilling to face and explain; for a moment, he did not know how to explain this matter either. However, since Hermione had already witnessed it, he must provide an explanation...
"I was just too tired in the middle of the night, so I'm resting here for a while," Alan replied, lacking confidence.
The look in Hermione's eyes instantly turned dangerous. She was about to speak, but Alan, seeing the situation was dire, interrupted her.
"Actually, I can't figure out why you would think I was dead so quickly!" Alan decided to take the initiative and steer the conversation.
"You lay there motionless, and there was so much blood on the ground; of course I thought it was you... who was dead!" Hermione had indeed taken the bait; it seemed her previously sharp brain was not very flexible right now due to her recent crying.
"I was wearing plate armor, so of course you couldn't see the rise and fall of my chest. Couldn't you have confirmed it in other ways?" Alan said with a convincing air.
Hermione was left speechless by the question. Alan also felt something was wrong; saying that would only draw her attention to the plate armor.
"Next time something like this happens, remember to call an ambulance first. I think I could still be resuscitated," Alan quickly added to make amends, "rather than losing your composure completely like you did, and even wanting to kiss..."
Alan was cut off by Hermione's stern gaze; he could say no more.
"I think you owe me an explanation about everything that happened today!" Hermione had completely regained her composure and returned to her usual intelligent self.
Alan knew his attempt to change the subject had failed, and he fell silent again.
"Your words reminded me. I should go call an ambulance for you, summon Lady Pomfrey, and also fetch Professor McGonagall and Professor Dumbledore so they can see your current state, how about that?" Hermione stared intently at the changes in Alan's facial expression and asked mercilessly.
Alan opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out.
"The eyes of a phoenix, the glands of a fire dragon used for breathing fire, the wings of an unknown magical creature, and the mysterious red plate armor," Hermione said expressionlessly.
Alan felt his scalp tingle the more he listened.
"You have also been practicing fire dragon breath and using various transformed wings to fly over these past few months."
"Three hours ago, you lied about going to find Professor Flitwick; the sounds and earthquake beneath Hogwarts; the various battle scars and bloodstains on your armor; plus your utterly exhausted appearance," Hermione continued.
Alan did not expect Hermione to have discovered so many things.
"If you put all these things together, what do you think I can deduce?" A spark of wisdom gleamed in Hermione's eyes.
Alan remained silent; he was also curious about what Hermione could deduce.
"You spent several months preparing for a battle. You were not certain of the outcome of this battle. This battle took place underground, and in the end, you achieved victory!" Hermione stated her deduction with absolute certainty.
Alan looked at Hermione in surprise. He did not expect her to deduce so much so quickly, and her deductions were mostly correct. It seemed many of his actions he thought were secret could not be hidden from those who paid attention.
But Alan's eyes had already betrayed him.
"It seems my deduction was correct," Hermione continued to stare intently at Alan, waiting for his answer.
Alan remained silent. A fierce battle raged within his heart; he had not yet decided to tell Hermione the truth.
Seeing Alan, who was silent and had become somewhat unfamiliar, Hermione felt an inexplicable emotion surge up in her heart again. Suddenly, she squatted on the ground, buried her head in her arms, and began to cry loudly once more.
"I am especially afraid of you quietly leaving me like today. I am just extremely worried about you. I worry that you will disappear from my life forever. I worry I will never see you again... wuwuwu..." As she spoke, she cried even louder.
Looking at the little girl crying before him, Alan felt a flutter in his heart.
A warm current surged forth, and he felt his heart become incredibly soft...
He struggled to stand up from the corner. He wanted to squat down and hug that little girl, but the pain from his wounds and the armor made it difficult to complete that action. Finally, he found that the kneeling-on-one-knee posture was relatively easier to perform, so he assumed that pose.
He gently placed his hand on Hermione's constantly trembling shoulder...
But the pain in his body still made him let out a few muffled groans...
Hermione immediately stopped crying. She suddenly raised her head. "Are you injured? Is it serious? Let me see!" Hermione said anxiously, reaching out to check Alan's injuries.
Alan stopped her movement and tightly held her hand in his palm.
Looking at Hermione's somewhat red and swollen eyes from crying, looking at the tear tracks on her face, this was the first time since he came to this world that someone cared for him so deeply. This prompted him to make a decision.
He pulled Hermione closer, looked sincerely into her eyes, and said, "Your guesses are all correct. I accidentally discovered a plot by Voldemort. He can control a monster hidden beneath the school. So I prepared for several months, and tonight I went to defeat that monster."
"Then why didn't you tell Professor Dumbledore? Why did you face that monster alone?" Hermione also felt Alan's sincerity and controlled her own emotions.
"I have my own reasons, just like last year when I signed an Unbreakable Vow with Quirrell. Therefore, this matter must be faced by me alone," Alan said, not knowing where to begin explaining this to Hermione.
Hermione reluctantly accepted Alan's answer. "I always feel that you have been silently bearing so many things. In the future, can you let me share the burden of these things with you?" Hermione leaned her body forward; her face was closer to Alan's. She looked at Alan with hopeful eyes.
Alan could even feel Hermione's warm breath. Looking at her, who was so close, he suddenly could not bear to refuse such a beautiful girl.
In this lonely magical world, he indeed needed someone to share some things with him, back to back...
So he gently nodded. "Okay!" he said with utmost solemnity.
Hermione smiled happily. She gently stood up and said cheerfully, "You must keep your promise, my knight!"
Alan smiled understandingly. He did not answer Hermione. He placed Hermione's hand before his eyes and gently kissed it...
In the dim washroom, a knight with huge red wings wearing red armor was kneeling on one knee, gently kissing the back of the hand of a witch wearing a black magical robe...
In the next moment, those red wings enveloped the witch...
