Chapter 210: The Feeling of Turning into a Panda

~7 min read 1,247 words

After hearing Allen's choice, some young wizards looked utterly bewildered, some were brimming with excitement, and some even couldn't help but start whispering among themselves.

Allen saw Professor McGonagall's mouth twitch; it seemed his choice had clearly exceeded her expectations.

"Are you sure?" Professor McGonagall asked.

Allen nodded hurriedly; he truly wanted to transform into a panda. He estimated that everyone probably had the wish to experience transforming into a panda at least once.

The other wizards also looked at Professor McGonagall with anticipation; seeing a famous creature like the panda in Britain was quite troublesome.

"Very well, stand firm!" Professor McGonagall drew her wand. Although pandas were very rare in Britain, as a master of Transfiguration, Professor McGonagall had once carefully observed many creatures, and the panda was among them.

However, the panda was still too obscure; she hesitated for a full minute before casting the Transfiguration spell on Allen.

With a "Bang," Allen vanished on the spot, replaced by a furry, plump, bear-like, rotund creature with a round head and short tail. Its entire body had only two colors, black and white: its eyes, ears, and limbs were black, while the rest were white. Its innocent, cute appearance was extremely adorable.

Moreover, this panda was in a juvenile state, which further increased its lethality to humans; this was probably related to Allen being only thirteen years old.

In the crowd, a witch couldn't help but let out a gasp of surprise. They looked at the panda on the ground with sparkling eyes, and even Professor McGonagall's expression softened considerably; no one could resist the charm of a panda.

The panda on the ground suddenly collapsed flat; obviously, Allen hadn't yet adapted to the way a panda maintains balance. He rolled on the ground and successfully stood up on all fours.

This action completely broke the female students' defenses; they couldn't help but want to step forward and pet the panda before them.

"Everyone else, step back, don't scare him," Professor McGonagall said sternly.

The students who had approached hurriedly retreated, their eyes reluctant to leave. They unwillingly retreated to the positions designated by Professor McGonagall, stretching their necks desperately to see more clearly.

Professor McGonagall squatted down, gazing at the cute panda before her.

"Calm down, Finis, don't be nervous," Professor McGonagall said gently.

The panda transformed from Allen looked curiously at the surroundings; from this angle, everyone else in the room looked like giants.

Although the feeling of being on all fours was a bit strange, after gradually adapting, he felt it wasn't so uncomfortable anymore; the sensation of his thick, fleshy paws stepping on the ground also felt very novel to him.

He felt his state was strange; his consciousness seemed to have been roughly stuffed into a small, cramped box, making him feel very uncomfortable. Then, his brain suddenly jolted, and all sorts of strange information flooded toward him like a tide...

First came tiny, noisy sounds: the breathing of the people around him, the "creak" of shoes rubbing against the floor, the whispers of the onlooking students...

They seemed to have been filtered by some kind of container, then all at once drilled into his ears.

Professor McGonagall's tone also sounded different from normal; it had become sharper.

Then came changes in vision and smell.

He felt his field of vision had expanded; he felt the skin colors of Professor McGonagall and the students had become very strange, presenting a very strange cool tone together with the surrounding tables and chairs, as if a filter had been added, but his eyesight was much better than before, and things were clearly much clearer.

His sense of smell had become extremely sensitive; he could easily distinguish various scents in the air.

Actually, the changes in hearing, vision, and smell were still quite familiar to him; after all, in these past three-plus years, he had experienced them many times, but it was the first time these three changes appeared simultaneously.

Additionally, the changes in his body still made him feel very novel.

"How do you feel now?" Professor McGonagall asked.

The panda probably felt a bit tired standing up,

so he plopped down on the ground. His black eyes revealed a human-like expression of thought. He let out two short cries; actually, he wanted to answer that he felt great, but as soon as he opened his mouth, only these cries could come out.

"Oh... you can't speak now. Next, I will ask you questions; you just need to nod or shake your head," Professor McGonagall said.

The panda obediently nodded, and this action caused another commotion among the girls.

"Do you like the color blue?" The panda nodded.

"Do you like snowy weather?" The panda thought for a moment, then shook his head.

This question-and-answer session continued for ten minutes; the panda was getting a bit sleepy, and his speed in answering questions also slowed down a bit because he felt his thinking speed had slowed down.

Professor McGonagall, standing nearby, frowned; the panda's reaction again exceeded her expectations.

She decisively dispelled the panda's transformation, and the panda turned back into Allen.

Allen looked at Professor McGonagall somewhat bewildered; he didn't know why it had suddenly been stopped.

"You are not quite right. In my experience, a person transformed into an animal for the first time cannot possibly retain their sanity for so long. It is very likely that your talent caused this situation," Professor McGonagall said somewhat helplessly.

Allen also didn't know how to answer Professor McGonagall.

Professor McGonagall then directly bypassed Allen and chose a girl who had just raised her hand.

Allen retreated into the crowd. He noticed that the way others looked at him was much softer than just now; could this be the power of acting cute?

This girl chose to transform into a kitten, and Professor McGonagall casually waved her hand to help her realize her choice.

Then came the same stage of asking questions.

This time, after only five minutes, the onlooking students noticed that the kitten's reaction speed was getting slower and slower, interspersed with constant tail wagging and involuntary licking of its fur; the human-like expressions were becoming fewer and fewer.

Allen suddenly understood what Professor McGonagall was trying to demonstrate. He watched helplessly as the kitten's eyes gradually lost their alert sparkle, becoming more and more like a real cat...

The others also understood the kitten's changes, and everyone fell silent.

Professor McGonagall decisively ended the demonstration, dispelling the kitten's transformation. The girl returned to her human form; her face was somewhat pale, her eyes somewhat dazed, and she subconsciously still wanted to perform "fur licking"...

Professor McGonagall quickly stepped forward, hugged her, comfortingly patted her shoulder, and then handed her a bottle of potion.

After the girl finished the potion, her complexion became much more relaxed.

"Everyone has seen clearly the content of the training we are going to conduct, right?" Professor McGonagall swept her gaze over the entire hall again.

The students all nodded thoughtfully.

"If you choose to continue learning, you will experience this feeling many times. Overcoming this feeling and maintaining the clarity of your sanity is the first step to becoming an Animagus."

"While you are practicing, I will monitor your situation throughout to avoid causing irreversible magical damage. However, if any students mind, you may also choose to withdraw. You have one week to consider."
