Chapter 214: The Wrath of Crookshanks
"Half an hour, excellent performance!" Professor McGonagall said.
This result shocked the other students; in this aspect, they had lost to a third-year student.
Allen picked up his form and began filling it out seriously:
Thought process—relatively clear;
Self-evaluation score—8 points;
Transformation chosen this time—Panda;
Duration maintained—30 minutes;
Feeling during this transformation—no discomfort, but also no feeling of being like a fish in water;
Transformation chosen next time—Panda;
After handing the form to Professor McGonagall, he suddenly thought of a question.
"Professor, how long must one maintain a conscious state to enter the next stage?" Allen asked.
The other students were also drawn to this question; everyone involuntarily pricked up their ears to listen to Professor McGonagall's answer.
"The standard I set for you is three hours." Professor McGonagall said solemnly.
"Three hours!" The students let out a groan; they felt this standard was set too high.
Professor McGonagall also noticed many students lacked confidence. "Maintaining it for such a long time is indeed difficult, but not as hard as you imagine. As long as you train according to my method, most of you will be able to reach this duration."
"Then how long can you maintain it?" Allen suddenly asked.
Professor McGonagall showed a faint smile. "I haven't tested my limit, but I estimate maintaining it for three or four days should be no problem for me."
The students let out a gasp of astonishment; it was hard for them to imagine what maintaining it for so long even meant...
"For those of you aspiring to become Animagi, maintaining three hours in the early stage is enough, after all, you still live primarily in human form." Professor McGonagall continued.
"Then what is the record for the longest time a wizard has maintained it?" A student also voiced his doubt.
"There is no clear record for this, but theoretically one could maintain it indefinitely, yet no such wizard has ever appeared." Professor McGonagall said patiently.
The students whispered amongst themselves below.
"Alright! Bring your attention back! We continue to the next round." Professor McGonagall clapped her hands to remind the students to bring their attention back.
Then they proceeded to the second round; this time their maintained duration improved significantly. Several wizards had already broken the 10-minute mark, and Allen was even more exaggerated; he maintained it for a full 40 minutes in the second round...
After returning to the dormitory, he carefully pondered the content Professor McGonagall had taught today; he now had a strong interest in becoming an Animagus.
However, he felt his progress was still too slow. With the club activity once a week, he could only train for two rounds, and his improvement margin each time couldn't always be 10 minutes; later on, it would definitely get slower and slower.
Calculating it this way, he estimated he wouldn't enter the next stage even within this year.
After much thought, he decided to add extra training during his spare time to enter the next stage faster.
But how should he add extra training?
The premise of training using Professor McGonagall's method is to first be transformed into an animal, and this is the biggest threshold.
Although everyone knows the Transfiguration Spell, casting a Transfiguration Spell on a person is extremely dangerous and can easily cause serious injury to the transfigured person.
Gu Dan Allen did have confidence in casting a Transfiguration Spell on others without harming them, but he couldn't cast a Transfiguration Spell on himself!
After thinking for a long time, he still couldn't think of anyone who had mastered the Transfiguration Spell to a very deep level; Hermione, although excellent, hadn't reached that level yet.
It seems this method won't work! Allen thought somewhat unwillingly in his heart.
But the next moment, a flash of inspiration struck his mind:
Could his innate transformation ability achieve a similar effect?
Allen instantly thought of the previous Catnip incident.
Professor McGonagall used the temptation training method; the existence of various temptations makes the wild instincts of animals become stronger.
And the Catnip incident led him to speculate that his innate transformation would also produce the corresponding wild instincts of the creature, only these wild instincts were relatively weak, so weak he couldn't even feel them.
That day, the catnip was a strong temptation that stimulated the cat instincts within his body.
Allen felt this speculation was logically consistent.
Of course, explaining the Catnip incident with a more scientific logic is that after the scent of catnip is inhaled by a cat, it combines with receptors in the cat's nose, thereby stimulating sensory neurons connected to the brain, changing the activity of multiple brain regions, and participating in the cat's emotional regulation.
This is completely a normal physiological phenomenon.
But this is after all a magical world; Allen still preferred to explain this event using magic.
Besides, Allen vaguely felt that the length of time one can maintain it actually has a relationship with a person's willpower.
And to train willpower, catnip is truly a good choice.
Catnip does not cause physical addiction in cats; the effect of catnip on cats is temporary, generally 5 to 15 minutes. After the stimulation fades, the cat will not react to catnip again for at least another 1 hour.
This is something that does not harm the body; there is virtually no danger.
Resisting the temptation of catnip allows him to train his willpower.
If he cannot resist the temptation of catnip, then he can simply enjoy the catnip; the feeling of lying in Hermione's arms inhaling catnip that day was still very pleasant. Anyway, he would be sober in a while; just treat it as relaxing his nerves and adjusting his mood; anyway, it won't cause addiction.
The more Allen thought about it, the more he felt this was a good idea; anyway, he now mastered the method to reset specific transformation abilities, so afterwards he just needed to pay attention to the frequency of his innate transformation producing a cat nose.
Allen quickly made up his mind; this cultivation method was truly achieving multiple goals with one move.
He quickly found Hermione; Hermione had been appearing and disappearing mysteriously lately. She was stopped by Allen as soon as she entered the common room.
"Hermione, do you still have your catnip?" Allen leaned in and whispered.
"What are you doing?" Hermione looked at Allen alertly and asked.
Allen did not intend to hide his intentions; he told Hermione his purpose.
Hermione hesitated a bit, "But Crookshanks also likes catnip very much!"
"How about this? I and Crookshanks split it half and half (one cat, one human), how about that?" Allen proposed.
Finally, out of support for Allen, Hermione reluctantly agreed to his plan.
She returned to the dormitory, quickly retrieved two small bags of catnip, and handed them to Allen.
Allen happily accepted it; just as he was about to put it in his pocket, he heard a furious cat's meow.
It turned out that Crookshanks, discovering its owner had taken half of its beloved possession, had followed out uneasily, only to witness a scene that made the cat's eyes bulge with rage.
