Chapter 222

~7 min read 1,237 words

Time quickly passed a week, and Allen became even more attentive to the Mandrake leaf in his mouth; he visibly grew listless, felt his mood beginning to depress, and spent the entire day in a daze.

"Isn't it just holding a leaf? How can it affect you so greatly?" Ron asked, somewhat puzzled, as he gnawed on a chicken leg, oil dripping from his mouth, looking extremely delighted.

Allen tried his hardest not to notice Ron's eating manner.

"Think about it; you can't do anything that brings joy, you can't eat well, drink well, or sleep well, you dare not exercise vigorously, and you can't even speak loudly," Hermione said to Ron. She understood Allen's current situation well and looked at him with a worried gaze.

Hearing Hermione's words, Allen's face turned even more bitter; her words struck a chord in his heart, and this was only after a week had passed.

"I feel that if you continue like this, it won't work; you probably won't be able to endure it mentally," Hermione continued, looking at Allen.

"Professor McGonagall said she would give me some Felix Felicis to soothe my mood," Allen wrote on the parchment.

Harry and Hermione exchanged a glance and sighed in unison...

In the following two weeks, Allen surprisingly found it less unbearable; he felt he was gradually getting used to this life, except that he became even more numb, and the Mandrake leaf in his mouth grew even more bitter.

The drinks he had chosen before could no longer suppress the bitterness in his mouth; to avoid damaging the leaf, he simply stopped trying to suppress it, as his tongue had already been numbed somewhat.

Every day he watched the moon in the sky, watching it change from a full moon to a crescent, then gradually grow larger again; he knew his success was right before his eyes.

Professor McGonagall would check the leaf in his mouth every day; if she found any damage, she would terminate the ritual immediately to spare him further suffering, fortunately, the condition of the leaf in his mouth had always been excellent.

The final week was the most unbearable; his mood began to worsen again, his psychological pressure grew greater and greater, and this time even Felix Felicis could not make him feel happy, because by now he had already paid too much for this matter, and the sunk cost had become too high.

In the last few days, he couldn't sleep all night long, and even his innate Transfiguration became chaotic.

His eyes were bloodshot, he looked sickly all day, his face turned gray, he no longer answered any questions, and didn't want to speak.

His roommates moved very cautiously in the dormitory every day, never daring to make any loud noises for fear of disturbing him.

Hermione had particularly many assignments, but she still set aside a period of time every evening to read storybooks to Allen; in her words, this could help relax his tense nerves, and this method was indeed effective; this was also Allen's most relaxed moment of the day.

In the end, Allen also realized that the worse his state, the easier it was to make mistakes; finally, he simply used a memory charm to extract part of the recent memories of holding the leaf poorly from his brain, which made him feel a bit better.

When only two days remained until the full moon, Professor McGonagall checked the leaf in Allen's mouth once again, and the leaf was still intact.

To Allen's surprise, Professor McGonagall handed him a piece of parchment and asked him to sign it.

Allen took it and looked, discovering it was a leave-of-absence application form; the leave of absence was for one month, and it already bore the signatures of Professor McGonagall and Professor Dumbledore, with only the applicant's field left blank.

He looked at Professor McGonagall in confusion, not understanding why he was being asked to sign this leave-of-absence application.

"You need a place where no one will disturb you to complete the upcoming ritual; Hogwarts is clearly unsuitable, and the area around Hogwarts is also unsuitable because there are many Dementors around Hogwarts, and they are likely to affect the progress of your ritual. You have already paid so much for this, so you might as well take a leave of absence to find a suitable place. Moreover, with your learning ability, you can catch up on a month's coursework very quickly."

Professor McGonagall explained.

"Then where shall we go?" Allen understood Professor McGonagall's good intentions and wrote on the parchment.

"To Scamander Manor," Professor McGonagall gave an unexpected answer.

"Mr. Newt Scamander's manor?" Allen wrote quickly, his confusion in his eyes deepening.

"Yes!" Professor McGonagall replied briefly.

She saw the confusion in Allen's eyes.

"Have you noticed the weather these past two days?" Professor McGonagall suddenly raised this question.

Allen slowly shook his head; he had been fighting with the leaf in his mouth recently and hadn't actually noticed the recent weather.

"It's normal that you didn't notice; the clouds in the sky have been increasing these past two days, and the weather the day after tomorrow is likely to be not very good," Professor McGonagall explained.

Allen immediately understood Professor McGonagall's meaning: the Mandrake leaf taken out during the full moon must bathe in moonlight under the full moon; if that night is overcast or rainy, one must find a new Mandrake leaf and start over.

He looked out the window at the sky outside, and indeed there were many white clouds in the sky...

This meant that in two days, a month of his efforts would likely be in vain.

"There is no spell currently that can control the weather, so we must leave Hogwarts," Professor McGonagall said.

"Is the weather at Scamander Manor good?" Allen wrote quickly.

"The weather there is not good either," Professor McGonagall played coy, "but Scamander has a Thunderbird; the Thunderbird can make storms arrive early, and after the storm passes, it will be sunny."

Allen couldn't help but admire how thoroughly Professor McGonagall had thought.

"This is the first time Hogwarts has had a student perform the Animagus ritual while enrolled, so the school has mobilized all its connections; we have already communicated with Mr. Scamander in advance. He is very willing to provide help and particularly welcomes your visit," Professor McGonagall showed a slight smile.

"Mr. Scamander likes you very much; he has wanted to meet you for a long time," Mr. McGonagall raised an eyebrow.

Allen picked up the quill on the table and without hesitation signed his full name on it.

Professor McGonagall put away the parchment and then said, "Go back and pack your things; we will depart for Scamander Manor this afternoon."

Allen returned, briefly said goodbye to his friends, and then came to the entrance of Hogwarts Castle carrying a small suitcase.

Professor McGonagall was already waiting there; beside her was a carriage pulled by a Thestral.

They rode the carriage to Hogsmeade Village and borrowed the fireplace in the Three Broomsticks pub to use Floo Powder.

After a burst of green flame, Allen appeared in an unfamiliar fireplace; he steadied himself, hesitated for a moment, and then walked out of the fireplace.

"Allen, welcome to Scamander Manor!" a voice full of energy rang out.
