Chapter 233: Panda Battles Black

~6 min read 1,156 words

The black great dog watched as a plump panda with black-and-white fur charged at it with fierce momentum; it made a quick assessment, knowing the newcomer meant no good, yet it refused to let go of Ron, managing only to dodge slightly.

This was the first time Allen used the panda form to fight, so naturally he dared not hold back; his massive Xiong Zhang struck the black great dog without mercy.

The moment they clashed, both sides knew each other's strength.

When Allen struck with his palm, he felt no cushioning at all; he sensed the black great dog was all skin and bones, like a mere skeleton.

The black great dog took the panda's palm squarely; it felt the blow was heavy and powerful, felt its eyes go dark, felt its bones groaning continuously; it knew that even in full health it might not defeat this black-and-white bear, let alone in its current weakened state.

Allen's confidence surged at once; he knew this great dog was no match for him; his thick fur gave him great security, and power flowed endlessly within his body.

The panda, seizing the advantage, refused to show mercy and lunged again; this time the black great dog dared not take the hit head-on; it unwillingly released the struggling Ron and dodged the pounce.

Freed, Ron quickly rolled aside, but during the rolling he seemed to have stepped on his rat Scabbers; Allen heard Scabbers' shriek.

That sound seemed to provoke the black great dog; its expression instantly turned fierce; it even made an irrational move—lunging at Ron again.

The panda blocking between them would not let its plan succeed; it pounced fiercely, rolling into a tangle with the black great dog; one bear and one dog snapped many branches on the ground.

Allen heard Harry and Hermione's anxious calls from behind; with the corner of his eye he saw red sparks rising in the sky.

But he had no time to attend to these matters; he had to focus entirely on this battle.

He quickly gained the upper hand; he used his plump body to pin the black great dog, then swung with both sides, one Xiong Zhang after another, slapping the black great dog to bring it to its senses; yet he did not strike to kill; he now thought he was merely dealing with a mad dog, and such a mad dog's actions did not deserve death.

The black great dog struggled weakly beneath the panda, howling in despair; that howl made Allen feel strangely uneasy in his heart.

At that moment, Allen suddenly saw the great dog's head flicker and transform into the face of Sirius Black; he had seen Sirius Black's wanted posters many times over the past half year; he would never mistake it.

The shock in his heart was unparalleled; the most dangerous fugitive from Azkaban was now writhing beneath him; he was stunned for a moment, and his grip on the great dog loosened involuntarily.

The great dog keenly sensed the panda's relaxation; it suddenly broke free from beneath the panda, rolled twice on the ground, and thus the bear and the dog put distance between them.

The bear and the dog stared at each other, eye to eye; the great dog could not defeat the panda, and Allen feared the great dog might have some hidden move, after all, Sirius Black's notorious reputation was well known.

He finally snapped out of his shock; he had now lost his greatest advantage; after transforming, his wand had fallen where he stood; now he began to feel uneasy in his heart.

He heard a cry of alarm from behind; Harry, Hermione, and the injured Ron had also seen the great dog's face.

At that moment, the first reinforcements who saw the red sparks arrived; Hagrid ran out of the house, shouted loudly in their direction, then hurried toward them.

The great dog's face returned to normal; the manner of returning to normal was very familiar to Allen—it was Animagus transformation.

The great black dog turned and fled, quickly disappearing into the deep Forbidden Forest; before leaving, it glanced toward Allen's direction; its eyes were very strange, seeming somewhat resentful yet also somewhat gratified; Allen felt as if his eyes were playing tricks on him.

According to the newspapers, should not Black's eyes be mad and violent?

"Allen,

are you all right!" Harry and Hermione rushed over, speaking anxiously.

The panda nodded toward the direction where the black great dog had departed; he still maintained the panda form because he was unsure whether Sirius Black would return and launch another surprise attack.

Hagrid soon arrived beside them; Hogwarts Castle had also been alerted by the red sparks in the sky; two wizards riding broomsticks flew toward them from the sky; in the opposite direction, unknown flying objects appeared in the sky—two Dementors, drawn by the situation here.

The two dark figures from the castle grew larger; they were Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick; the moment they landed, they cast a silver-white mist at the two approaching Dementors, driving them away directly.

Allen clearly felt that in his Animagus form his resistance to Dementors had greatly increased.

Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick checked their condition; Ron had been bitten, so they ordered Ron to go to the hospital wing for treatment.

Allen smoothly retrieved his wand left on the ground, while Ron at that moment discovered his pet Scabbers was missing; they searched nearby for a while but found nothing; they could only give up, after all, treating Ron's injuries was more urgent.

But when they reached the castle's main gate, Scabbers appeared again.

Ron joyfully hugged Scabbers in his arms; he was very happy at Scabbers' return.

Allen beside him at that moment felt a sensation of being watched; after becoming an Animagus, his senses had become even keener; he suddenly glanced toward the direction of the gaze, but saw only Scabbers burrowing into the clothes on Ron's chest.

Allen turned his head; his brows began to furrow; he vaguely sensed something unusual, yet could not say what was wrong.

Their group soon arrived at the hospital wing; Lady Pomfrey wrapped a bandage around one of Ron's legs and had it suspended.

At this time Dumbledore also hurried over; he attached great importance to the attack on the four of Harry.

"Headmaster, it was Black; he is that great black dog—"

"He can transform into a human, no, into an animal!"

"Professor, he is an Animagus!"

Upon seeing Professor Dumbledore, Harry, Hermione, and Ron spoke all at once.

Finally, Professor Dumbledore asked Allen to recount the events.

Allen quickly narrated what had happened tonight; the ward fell silent at once.

Professor Dumbledore said softly: "You did not missee, did you? Animagus? Sirius Black?"

"We all saw it!" Harry, Ron, and Hermione said in unison.
