Chapter 267: Shadow Clone
The first scroll left by Allen Finis was to transform into a long-range mage-type shapeshifter; he believed such a shapeshifter's mobility and control would make defeating an adult wizard effortless, so he did not endow this shapeshifter with lethal abilities, focusing instead on control.
The second scroll transformed into an invisible assassin-type shapeshifter; this had always been Allen Finis's idea, for what else could one expect in a world teeming with wizards? The countless fantasy novels and games from his past life had taught him that wizards feared assassins, especially since this shapeshifter possessed the ability to use mithril to break magical defenses, leaving the wizards of this world even less able to resist.
Let the wizards of this world properly experience the terror of an invisible assassin, something they had never encountered before!
Yet he never dreamed in his wildest dreams that the first to be attended to by the invisible assassin-type shapeshifter would be Professor Snape, and that he would be attended to simultaneously by his two new shapeshifters; truly, he was blessed beyond measure.
At this moment, the situation on the field changed once more. Although Snape's mind was filled with rage and madness, he remained clear-headed regarding combat; he quickly devised a countermeasure.
The invisible shapeshifter continued to attack relentlessly like a parasite clinging to the bone; after a flash of lightning, he seized the opportunity to cast a Chao Gan Zhou on himself.
Chao Gan Zhou was a long-lost spell researched jointly by Allen Finis and Professor Flitwick; this spell could make one's sensory abilities extremely acute. Once released, it sparked heated discussion throughout the Wizarding World, becoming one of the essential spells for wizards, and it was rumored to be included in the latest edition of "Standard Book of Spells, Grade Three."
Enhanced by Chao Gan Zhou, Snape could now judge the direction of the shapeshifter's approach by the friction sound it made as it swept through the air.
"Expelliarmus!" After dodging once, Snape shouted this spell, pointing his wand at a patch of empty ground, for he knew that was where the shapeshifter would pass...
A violent explosion erupted in the air; a leopard-like shapeshifter let out a mournful cry and appeared out of thin air.
The greatest feature of this leopard-shaped shapeshifter was that its entire body was covered in long, fine fur that shimmered with a silvery light like silk, and these long hairs concealed the characteristics of its body parts.
Now, a portion of the long fur on this shapeshifter was scorched black; it attempted to turn invisible again, but the areas where the fur was damaged could no longer turn invisible...
"Invisible Beast!" Lupin exclaimed in shock; the number of times he had been surprised tonight exceeded that of the entire recent year. "But shouldn't the form of an Invisible Beast be that of a monkey? How could it be a leopard?"
"Don't think too much about that; let's worry about ourselves first!" Sirius Black couldn't help but interrupt Lupin. "If that invisible leopard can no longer turn invisible, can it still defeat Snape in this state? If so, wouldn't we be in danger? Snape in this state is very likely to harm Harry and his friends."
"My death matters little, but the danger around Harry has not yet been removed!" Sirius Black continued, looking once more at Ron's chest, which had now calmed down.
Harry and the other two also realized something was amiss, but a battle of this caliber was beyond their ability to intervene in; the transformed Snape was too terrifying.
"Hold on!" Ron suddenly shouted, waving his fists at the shapeshifter to encourage it.
Harry and Hermione stopped waving their wands and looked at Ron in surprise: "You..."
"Didn't Allen Finis say at the time that shouting this might cause a miracle to happen?" Ron shrugged.
Harry and Hermione exchanged a glance and immediately began shouting as well...
Allen Finis had always been reliable; he must have had his reasons for asking them to shout this, they thought in their hearts.
Snape in the arena naturally would not miss such a good opportunity; he immediately launched an attack on the invisible assassin shapeshifter, sending waves of "Sectumsempra" spells rushing at the invisible assassin shapeshifter with extreme speed.
The dim environment made these invisible spells even more threatening.
The invisible assassin shapeshifter could only dodge left and right to evade these spells, while the mage-type shapeshifter flying rapidly in the sky continuously unleashed "Leaf Blade" to harass Snape...
But Snape had now recast the Shield Charm; these "Leaf Blade" attacks were all blocked. Deprived of harassment, Snape's body was once again enveloped in lightning, and a thick bolt of lightning struck straight at the invisible assassin shapeshifter, for he knew who posed the greatest threat to him now.
Most terrifyingly, while casting lightning, Snape could also wave his wand to cast spells...
At this moment, Snape fully embodied what it meant to be a spell turret; he was now a ruthless spellcasting machine.
The situation suddenly turned extremely unfavorable for the shapeshifters...
"Dodge quickly!" Hermione couldn't help but scream.
Hermione's shout seemed to truly take effect; the invisible assassin shapeshifter's body swayed, and it suddenly split into two shapeshifters...
One of the invisible assassin shapeshifters was struck by lightning and dissolved into a bubble, while the invisible assassin shapeshifter continued to split; soon, five or six identical invisible assassin shapeshifter clones appeared on the field, all lunging at Snape together.
This was a move from Pokémon—Shadow Clone.
Snape could not immediately distinguish which of these clones was real; he cast "Expelliarmus" again, but since the clones attacked in a very scattered formation, this single spell only broke through two clones.
The other clones closed in on Snape; Snape was forced to use "Flash" to dodge, but the clones were multiplying rapidly, using the terrain to continuously launch attacks against Snape.
Snape was forced to divide his attention to deal with the clones lunging at him; most of these clones were fake, but the true body was hidden among them, launching attacks from time to time. He was caught off guard and ambushed; fortunately, his reaction was fast enough to avoid vital points at the last moment, but the mithril claws of the invisible assassin shapeshifter still easily left several long scars on his back...
The spectators present were truly wide-eyed, having never witnessed such a scene.
The close-quarters, bayonet-style clash was extremely perilous; silver light flashed continuously, blood splattered, making one's heart tremble, creating a tremendous visual impact; just watching it made Harry feel goosebumps all over his body.
After being injured, Snape grew even more frenzied; his spellcasting speed increased, but none of this could stop the situation on the field from becoming increasingly unfavorable for him...
