Chapter 271: The Glorious Moment of the Yellow Fat Squirrel
Harry simply couldn’t associate the creature before him with power, knowing that Hermione and Ron’s transformed beasts looked unmistakably fierce and formidable.
He had once imagined what kind of powerful transformed beast his scroll could summon—in his fantasy, it would be as large as an elephant, covered in thick scales, with terrifying fangs and claws, capable of spewing destructive flames...
But after actually using his scroll, the creature that emerged was undeniably a letdown—the creature before him was nothing but a round, yellow, fat squirrel, no bigger than a puppy, with not the slightest hint of combat ability...
It was adorable, certainly, but useless against hundreds of Dementors...
Harry felt a connection form between himself and the yellow fat squirrel, but he was still too affected by the Dementors; his mind felt rusted, moving with agonizing slowness...
Allen had claimed this scroll was the most powerful one—perhaps he was just joking. Harry’s mind felt nearly frozen; he shook his head hard, knowing he could command the adorable yellow squirrel to attack, but he felt it would be futile...
Harry was still too overwhelmed by the Dementors—he had made a basic error of empiricism, and his sluggish mind hadn’t yet connected the yellow fat squirrel’s features with the ones Snape had just assumed...
Harry made his decision—he turned again toward the Dementors, shielding the yellow squirrel behind him, unwilling to let this adorable creature meet its death...
This yellow fat squirrel did have some value—it brought him a little joy with its cuteness... Harry thought silently to himself...
“Pi?” The yellow fat squirrel grew even more confused, unable to understand what was happening to this man...
“Expecto Patronum!” Harry summoned another cloud of silver mist, but it was still far from forming his stag Patronus.
Yet the silver mist still blocked the Dementor—for a moment. The Dementor reached out and brushed aside his formless Patronus, and the next instant, the silver mist vanished...
Harry’s heart was utterly filled with despair; he heard the familiar scream—it was his mother’s voice...
He could feel their rotting breath...
His mother screamed in his ears...
She would be the last sound he ever heard...
Then, the mist was swallowing him whole...
At that moment, he suddenly felt a weight settle on his right shoulder—he caught a glimpse with the corner of his eye as the yellow fat squirrel leapt onto his shoulder...
“This fat squirrel is pretty heavy!” was the first thought his sluggish mind produced...
The yellow fat squirrel used Harry’s shoulder as a springboard, leaping straight up toward the hovering Dementors...
Watching this suicidal act, Harry felt neither sorrow nor joy...
But the next instant, tiny sparks of lightning began flickering across its red face, then brilliant white light erupted over its entire body, bathing it in radiant, dazzling luminescence...
The white light illuminated Harry’s face and lifted some of the gloom from his heart, but the Dementors were still too numerous—this single beam of light seemed ready to be snuffed out amid the overwhelming darkness...
Yet Harry, close enough to feel it, sensed the violent, destructive aura radiating from the squirrel’s white glow—he knew it was lightning power condensed to its absolute extreme...
“Piika-chuuuuuu!!!” The squirrel, engulfed in lightning, let out a strange cry.
The next instant, Harry’s entire field of vision was blinding white light—his eyes, overwhelmed by the sudden surge of brilliance, went temporarily blind...
He felt a violent gust of wind rush over him, lifting his hair...
The white light around the squirrel exploded violently—a massive bolt of lightning split the air, sending shockwaves rippling outward...
The lightning instantly struck the nearest Dementor—but it didn’t end there. The bolt split repeatedly, weaving a vast, dazzling net across the sky, connecting every single Dementor together.
Nearly a hundred Dementors lost all resistance the moment they touched the net—they convulsed in midair, “dancing,” trembling violently as the lightning coursed through them, their hollow mouths gaping wide as if screaming, yet producing no sound at all...
The colossal lightning net illuminated the sky above the Forbidden Forest and the Black Lake, turning it as bright as day—this spectacular display could be seen from miles away; wizards in Hogsmeade were jolted awake, and every tower of Hogwarts Castle lit up in rapid succession...
There were even brighter nodes along the lightning net—each node was a Dementor; if you looked closely, you could even see their skeletal forms...
Harry didn’t know how long the lightning lasted—when his vision returned, he saw a swarm of Dementors desperately fleeing the area, their tattered black robes dragging nearly parallel to the ground...
They didn’t dare look back, trembling as they fled headlong, consumed by panic...
Harry felt a wave of terror emanating from them—he also sensed the Dementors had shrunk; once six feet tall, they now seemed no more than four feet, shorter even than he was, resembling little schoolchildren...
The yellow fat squirrel’s lightning vanished; it landed on a nearby branch with a dull *thump*, used the branch to push off, and shot straight toward Harry...
Harry quickly raised his arms to catch it, but the impact knocked him off-balance—whether this stumble was due to the yellow squirrel’s weight or Harry’s own weakness remained an unsolved mystery...
As soon as he held it, he felt its weakness—clearly, that astonishing attack had taken a heavy toll.
“Pi-ka-chu-” The yellow fat squirrel weakly chirped in Harry’s arms, its ears and tail limp and drooping.
“You... rest well,” Harry said, flustered.
“Pi-ka-” The yellow fat squirrel continued chirping.
Harry quickly pulled out his Poké Ball and enclosed the yellow fat squirrel inside.
Only after doing this did he come to his senses—he and Sirius were safe...
“Pi-ka-chu?” Harry murmured, clutching the Poké Ball, “Your name is Pikachu?”
