Chapter 284: Author

Author’s Note on Subscription Launch

Tomorrow marks the subscription launch—I’ve never written one before and don’t know where to start, so let me share how I came up with this book.

In real life, I’m a programmer, with several years in the field. When I first started, I was deeply passionate about coding; I remember feeling a burning drive to “change the world with code.”

But my code never changed the world—instead, the world changed me. I gradually lost that passion for programming and code. Though I still approach my work with diligence and responsibility, the feeling inside me has shifted; as programmers joke, my daily work now feels like “carrying bricks.”

One day in September 2021, I rewatched the Harry Potter films, then opened my computer to fix a bug. Looking at the feature I’d just written, I suddenly had a wild thought:

In the world of code, am I not a wizard?

Computer functions are my spells!

My keyboard is my wand!

My t-shirt is my magic robe!

Each feature I write is the effect of my magic!

Baldness is... (uh... didn’t think that one through, facepalming—mainly because the author isn’t bald)

In short, this idea felt incredibly romantic to me.

If you think this is going to be a story about a lost programmer rediscovering his passion, you’re wrong—adult minds don’t change so easily from a single thought...

But it sparked another idea in me: write a web novel centered around that thought.

The moment it appeared, it took over my mind and refused to leave.

I’ve been a longtime web novel reader—over a decade—and a heavy user of Qidian; I spend a couple hundred yuan there every month and have over a dozen recommendation votes each day.

I believe every longtime reader dreams of writing a novel someday—I’m no exception.

After preliminary “technical research”—reading countless posts and watching videos about writing web novels—

I decided to make this idea real.

I chose to write a Harry Potter fanfiction because fanfiction is easier for newcomers, the magic system in HP aligns perfectly with my idea, and most importantly, I’m a fan—I read the original books seven or eight times in middle school and watched the movies once or twice.

Then I began designing all the settings, integrating programming concepts into HP’s magic system.

The next question was: how would the protagonist use his programming skills to break the rules?

Programming’s core strength lies in handling complex logic and massive data.

That strength fits perfectly with Transfiguration, so the novel would focus on that discipline.

But that wasn’t enough—I needed more to attract readers.

My job requires minimizing randomness in every aspect; perhaps because of that, I personally love randomness—even though I don’t want my life to be full of it.

Transfiguration + Randomness = Random Transfiguration.

Only after establishing these core concepts did I begin writing the novel in earnest.

Throughout the process, I received immense encouragement and help from readers. I’ve also kept learning—both programmers and web novel authors must constantly learn, and I believe my learning ability is decent.

Today, my vision for this book has changed greatly since I started—but all changes have been for the better. The story in my heart now is far more thrilling than when I began.

I can’t wait to write it all out and let you see it. Since I can’t change the real world, I’ll change my favorite magical world instead!

That’s all for now—I haven’t prepared my tomorrow’s massive update yet, but I should be able to post five chapters, ten thousand words. I hope friends will support with first-subscription votes; I heard they’re important. Currently, the book has 5,100 collections—I’d be satisfied with just 100 first-subscription votes (facepalming).

That’s it—thank you all for your support!

Finally, Happy New Year to everyone!
