Chapter 85: Hypotheses on Ranks and Permissions
Allen had no time to investigate his own eyes; he returned to the dormitory to ask Harry about the night's events, only to find Neville also sitting on his bed, dejected.
After some questioning, he learned that after Harry and Hermione sent Norbert away, they forgot the Invisibility Cloak in the tower and were caught by Filch; Malfoy was caught by Professor McGonagall because he had tried to sabotage their plan; and Neville, upon hearing Malfoy intended to disrupt Harry's scheme, went to warn Harry but was caught by Filch instead...
In short, the final result was that Norbert was successfully sent away, but Gryffindor lost 150 House points, and Slytherin lost 50 House points.
Hearing the full story, Allen gasped in shock: 150 House points!
Allen could already imagine the kind of pressure Harry, Hermione, and Neville would face tomorrow.
But Allen had no good solution; he could only do his best to persuade Harry and Neville not to take the matter too much to heart.
Fortunately, they were all at an age where their bodies were still growing, and coupled with the many events they had experienced that night, they were already exhausted; thus, without needing much persuasion from Allen, they each went back to sleep.
Sure enough, the next day, when the Gryffindor students discovered that their House points had suddenly plummeted, they were utterly stunned; after learning the details, they began pointing fingers at Harry, Hermione, and Neville, so that whenever the three passed by groups of whispering students, they had to lower their heads and quicken their pace to get through rapidly.
Meanwhile, Allen's attention was diverted by other matters.
He had made a new discovery—he could also see the curtain of light produced when casting a spell using the dragon's eyes! Ancient runes still appeared on that curtain of light!
Thus, the War God of the Girls' Bathroom had returned to his main battlefield!
By this day, Allen had already observed and recorded the ancient runes for every spell he knew, except for the Cruciatus Curse and Fiendfyre; mainly because the Cruciatus Curse had side effects, and he feared Fiendfyre would backfire and consume him, so what he lacked most now was knowledge to decipher the ancient runes.
This also caused Allen's desire to obtain the recipe for the potion Snape gave him to maintain his physical condition to fade.
But today, the dragon eyes he had Transfigured suddenly gave him a Xin De Xiang Fa.
First, Allen discovered that after Transfiguring the dragon eyes, the pain in his right hand had completely vanished.
Yet, before Transfiguring last night, Allen had been giving himself psychological suggestions to transform into a dragon claw, never thinking about transforming eyes; therefore, it could be determined that these dragon eyes were a random outcome.
This indicated that using the subconscious to influence the Transfiguration effect of his wand talent had a cooldown; based on existing experience, this cooldown range was greater than two days but less than one month.
Although the fire dragon eyes could see ancient runes, after multiple attempts, Allen found that the dragon eyes possessed no ability to slow down time (or rather, accelerate thought); he felt the fire dragon eyes must have some special capability, but he had yet to figure it out.
This discovery made Allen feel he was vaguely glimpsing some secrets of this world.
A hypothesis that had long lingered in his mind was beginning to take shape.
Allen felt he could introduce the concept of "rank" to the various creatures of this world.
Because Thunderbirds and fire dragons possessed great individual strength, they could be classified as high-rank creatures; and high-rank creatures could perceive the most essential form of magical power in this world—namely, the ancient runes appearing on the curtain of light generated when casting a spell.
However, due to their limited intelligence and scarce numbers, making it difficult for them to develop civilization and heritage, they were unable to utilize the ancient runes they saw; over time, they came to regard the ancient runes they witnessed as merely a normal phenomenon.
Because wizards possessed limited individual strength, they could be classified as mid-rank creatures; creatures of this rank had the ability to cast spells but lacked higher-level methods of observation, so they could not see the most essential form of magical power in this world.
But fortunately, their numbers were sufficient, allowing them to develop civilization and heritage,
and through constant summarization and experimentation, they developed a system for utilizing magical power, establishing their footing in this world.
Muggles possessed extremely weak individual strength, so they could be classified as low-rank creatures.
Different ranks corresponded to different permissions; for instance, low-rank creatures lacked the permission to cast spells, mid-rank creatures began to possess the permission to cast spells, and high-rank creatures possessed even more advanced permissions.
At the same time, rank also influenced the power of casting magic; this was a hypothesis Allen derived from casting spells with his dragon claw.
Rank was merely Allen's classification of the power hierarchy among biological species, having nothing to do with a creature's personality or virtue; after all, Allen had seen the most noble Muggles and the most despicable wizards!
The higher the permission, the more one could see and feel; currently, just the aspect of "seeing" allowed him to observe so much information—so if he acquired other perceptual abilities of these high-rank creatures, what would he be able to perceive? To what height could he ascend by utilizing what he perceived?
Allen suddenly felt his blood boiling; he felt he was walking upon a bright and broad path...
However, all of this was currently just a hypothesis; Allen needed more experiments to verify it, which required him to Transfigure the eyes of other high-rank creatures, and the high-rank creature closest to Allen seemed to be the phoenix Fawkes...
Once this thought appeared, it took root in Allen's mind; he urgently wanted to Transfigure phoenix eyes to take a good look at this world...
Fortunately, final exams were approaching; the young wizards paid far less attention to Harry, Hermione, and Neville, as they all began focusing their energy on reviewing their lessons.
The trio immersed themselves in their studies, which helped lessen their troubles.
And ever since the dragon claw incident, Allen felt that Transfiguration via his wand talent was actually quite good, becoming less resistant to the matter of wand-talent Transfiguration.
Although he still feared Transfiguring something strange and bizarre that would be hard to clean up, judging by the results of his wand-talent Transfiguration so far, everything remained acceptable.
Moreover, Allen felt he had mastered a method to narrow the random scope of Transfiguration.
On that day, he performed wand-talent Transfiguration before his hand injury had healed; because the subconscious influence on the Transfiguration result was still within its cooldown period, his fire dragon eyes were also a random Transfiguration outcome, yet this time the scope of the random Transfiguration seemed to have been restricted.
Because the inducing factor for Transfiguring dragon organs still existed within his body, the Transfiguration result would be limited to various dragon organs; theoretically, the Transfigured fire dragon eyes should not have possessed the ability to heal his hand injury, yet after the fire dragon eyes appeared, his hand stopped hurting, so the inducing factor within his body must have been consumed.
But Allen was still too poor; he could not bear to use his remaining magical materials to conduct this experiment.
However, a strange thought jumped into his mind: if Norbert were a female dragon, what would happen? Would the randomly Transfigured result affect his own gender identity?
This thought was too terrifying; Allen dared not think any further along that line.
Nevertheless, that night he had an absurd dream, in which Voldemort promoted various politically correct ideologies, and he himself became the representative of an LGBT organization...
