Chapter 33

~6 min read 1,047 words

The elevator doors opened... So fast? He Lele was just about to step out when she saw Ji Jie walking in. She looked up at the floor indicator; it was only the fourth floor.

He Lele quickly reined in her smile. "Mr. Ji, good evening. First floor?"

Ji Jie reached out and pressed the button for the second floor, glancing at He Lele in passing. A pleasant smile still lingered on the girl's youthful, soft face, making her look quite charming... Coming down from upstairs at this hour, Mu Wei had really bedded this administrator!

Was there any need to be this happy? Ji Jie's brows furrowed slightly. She hadn't been so unwilling when she was being pressed by that Qin kid, yet she was this happy when it was Mu Wei? So, in the end, she was just a brainless, infatuated girl putting on an act! She had climbed into three different beds in just over half a month; how could Aunt Yun let such a woman into the apartment? And the hell of it was... had Mu Wei's taste been eaten by a dog? Would he bed any woman?

Ji Jie scrutinized He Lele beside him, his gaze full of disdain and contempt, naked and raw.

"Send two cups of coffee over."

"... Alright." He Lele lowered her head and replied. Seeing Ji Jie's look just now, the last trace of a smile on her face finally vanished completely.

Returning to the first floor, He Lele jogged back to her room to tidy herself up, then brewed two cups of coffee and brought them to the second floor.

In the second-floor living room, Qin Zhixiu and Ji Jie were sitting on the carpet playing international chess. Ji Jie yawned and took the coffee.

"You go to sleep, let the administrator play with me," Qin Zhixiu said suddenly as he took his coffee.

"Her?" Ji Jie sneered disdainfully.

Play with him? He Lele's heart trembled. Play what?

"Sure, come on!" Ji Jie made a show of standing up and gestured for He Lele to take his seat.

He Lele shook her head quickly. "Me? I don't know how."

Ji Jie wore an "as expected" expression and sat back down. A brainless, infatuated girl—what could one expect her to know?

"It doesn't matter. We'll play whatever you know. I just need someone to keep me company." Qin Zhixiu looked up at He Lele, his expression calm and his tone gentle. His pleasant voice went straight into one's chest, making it feel as if one's throat and chest had expanded, causing the heart and lungs to vibrate slightly. With such a beautiful voice, it would truly be a waste if he didn't become a singer.

He Lele remembered what Ren Lingyu had said before, that some of the owners would want the administrator to play games with them. Was he talking about Qin Zhixiu? If it was just games...

"Are there checkers, flying chess, or Gomoku? Or maybe cards?" He Lele knelt down.

Ji Jie shook his head, speechless. Sure enough... all children's games.

"Yes, I'll go get them." Qin Zhixiu stood up and went into a room.

Ji Jie leaned against the sofa, resting his head on his bent arm. "Aren't you going to ask why?"

"The first rule of the administrator code: do not pry into any of the owners' privacy."

"Can't tell... you're quite professional." Ji Jie glanced lightly at He Lele's face. "It wouldn't hurt to tell you. This guy—" Ji Jie gestured toward Qin Zhixiu with his chin, "is a genuine genius."

Qin Zhixiu sat back down with several sets of games and cards. He didn't show any special expression upon hearing Ji Jie's assessment, merely picking up his cup to take a sip of coffee.

"A natural-born freak," Ji Jie continued. "Everything in the world is probably too simple for him, so simple that it's boring. If he stays alone to do things or think about problems, he'll fall into a deep sleep very quickly. His efficiency is actually higher when he's multitasking."

He Lele looked at the sheet music beside Qin Zhixiu. Could it be that Qin Zhixiu was composing while playing games? Shouldn't composing involve staying by an instrument, playing it over and over, testing it, listening to it, and revising it? He Lele looked at Qin Zhixiu in astonishment... Sure enough, the behavior of a genius is often illogical.

"Not human, right?" Ji Jie laughed.

He Lele was just about to nod, but saw Qin Zhixiu's beautiful eyes droop slightly—"... Actually, everyone has some unusual habits. It's understandable."

"..." The corners of Ji Jie's mouth twitched slightly. Was this woman saying he was making a mountain out of a molehill?

Qin Zhixiu raised his eyes to look at He Lele. There was no special expression on his handsome face, but He Lele breathed a slight sigh of relief. By intuition, she felt that Qin Zhixiu didn't like Ji Jie's "not human" comment... Come to think of it, even a genius wouldn't want to be treated as an alien, right? Even if the other person might not have meant any harm.

"Which one shall we play?" Qin Zhixiu asked.

"I suggest you play something with a high luck factor. With your IQ, I'm afraid you won't last half an hour before you're crying and running downstairs." Ji Jie's tone was extremely gloating.

"... Aren't you going to rest?"

"Heh... I'm afraid I'll be woken up just as I fall asleep."

"If you aren't resting for the moment, why not play with us?" He Lele looked straight at Ji Jie. A certain firmness in her eyes made Ji Jie involuntarily put away his flippant expression, withdraw his hand from supporting his head, and sit up slightly.

This woman... what was with this strange aura? Ji Jie suddenly felt a bit uncomfortable.

"Then, following Mr. Ji's suggestion, shall we play flying chess?" He Lele stopped looking at Ji Jie and turned to ask for Qin Zhixiu's opinion.

"Mm."

Half an hour later...

"You really have good luck," Ji Jie said sheepishly.

"Yes, or shall we try checkers?"

Another half hour later...

"I'm not familiar with these children's games." Ji Jie's complexion began to look a bit ugly.

"Then let's play cards, the simplest 'Run Fast'?"
