Chapter 758
First Volume, Chapter 758: The Tiger General Falls
Qin Feng stared at Chen Mou's earnest face and sneered inwardly: "It seems General Chen has already requested reinforcements from the Camp—your efforts to delay the reinforcements are truly tireless."
"If someone else had surrendered, I'd welcome it gladly—but you, General Chen, are Commander of the Snow Wolf Brigade and Chen Si's own cousin. Your surrender is unthinkable."
"Not to mention the reinforcements won't arrive—even if they did, they couldn't save you. Give up this hope: tomorrow on this day will be your anniversary of death."
Hearing Qin Feng's words, the officers and soldiers present finally realized Chen Mou's so-called surrender was merely a ploy to delay time.
The officers flushed crimson with shame, yet also felt a surge of relief—had it not been for Lord Qin himself overseeing the battle, they'd have fallen for Chen Mou's evil scheme!
Without hesitation, Qin Feng thrust his spear forward; the sharp tip pierced straight through Chen Mou's light armor.
Too bad armor is armor—even the thinnest is forged iron; a single stab from the spot couldn't kill him outright.
But Qin Feng wasn't discouraged—he retracted the spear and aimed for Chen Mou's weakest spot: the abdomen, uncovered by iron scales, only layered with leather armor.
The sharp spear tip pierced the leather without resistance, driving clean through Chen Mou's belly.
Blood gushed forth; Chen Mou let out a muffled groan, his tiger-like eyes bulging as he roared: "Qin Feng, my elder brother and the comrades of the Snow Wolf Brigade will avenge me—I'll wait for you on Huangquan Road!"
Even at death's door, his mouth still won't shut—no wonder he's the Chen Family's Tiger General!
Qin Feng felt deep admiration, yet his strike was merciless—he pulled out the spear, ready to strike again, when suddenly the outer Beixi Light Cavalry erupted into chaos, and shouts rang out.
"Ambushed! Ambushed!"
Qin Feng frowned tightly: "Reinforcements? Or You Ji Cavalry?!"
Moments later, a messenger ran up, shouting: "My Lord, they're the raiding cavalry we previously scattered!"
Hearing this, Qin Feng exhaled inwardly, ignored the outer commotion, and prepared to end Chen Mou swiftly.
"To stab you to death with spears would dishonor your heroic soul. But this armor is too obstructive—bring me a blade!"
Qin Feng dismounted, took the Zhan Dao thrown by his Deputy General, while two soldiers pinned Chen Mou face-down on the ground.
At this moment, the cries of battle outside grew louder—those You Ji Cavalry, knowing Chen Mou was ambushed, were launching suicidal attacks hoping to rescue him.
Too bad hope was a luxury, and beneath luxury lay despair.
There are no miracles in this world!
As Chen Mou's head was pressed down, exposing his nape, Qin Feng gripped the blade with both hands and said: "General Chen, any last words? I'll deliver them to Chen Si."
Chen Mou drew a deep breath, his voice still strong, showing no trace of fear at death's edge: "Tell my elder brother—I, Chen Mou, died without disgracing the Chen Family's honor."
Qin Feng nodded, eyes sharp: "Rest assured—I'll deliver your message."
As his words ended, Qin Feng swung the blade with both hands; the sharp Zhan Dao flashed, blood sprayed, the head fell—the mighty general of Bei Di forever remained on this land he fought for.
Qin Feng tossed the bloodied Zhan Dao to his Deputy General, when suddenly a cavalryman dismounted and kicked Chen Mou's head back beside his corpse.
Seeing this, Qin Feng's eyes blazed with fury: "Show respect to General Chen! Such a Tiger General, fallen in battle, deserves honor!"
The cavalryman's face flushed red; he quickly picked up Chen Mou's head and placed it carefully atop his body.
Qin Feng remounted, gazing at Chen Mou's severed head and body, his heart filled with sorrow: "As Commander of the Snow Wolf Brigade, Chen Mou shouldn't have led a night raid himself. As Main General, he took reckless risks—clearly, the Di Royal Capital issued a death order to exterminate the Wild Emperor Party."
"Alas… Chen Mou died… unjustly!"
Though warriors must one day be wrapped in horsehide, for death on the battlefield is the soldier's noble end—still, watching a Tiger General fall before his eyes was enough to make Qin Feng sigh.
"Beidi War Command: Bury General Chen with full honors."
Just as Qin Feng prepared to order the entire army back to Camp, the messenger ran up again.
"My Lord, the Snow Wolf Rangers are still harassing—our flanking troops launched offensive action and killed many, but the enemy won't cease!"
At first, Qin Feng didn't care—Chen Mou was captured; the remaining Snow Wolf Cavalry would naturally spare nothing to rescue their commander.
The leftover raiding cavalry couldn't be many—just kill them all.
Thinking this, Qin Feng suddenly felt a chill—he frowned, then ordered the messenger to inform the Snow Wolf Rangers that Chen Mou had been beheaded.
As time passed, roughly one incense stick later, the messenger returned, panting: "My Lord, the enemy raiding cavalry won't retreat!"
Qin Feng's frown deepened; his mind raced.
The raiding cavalry Chen Mou scattered numbered at most one hundred—logically, they should be nearly wiped out—but their ambush assaults showed no sign of weakening.
Qin Feng fixed his gaze on the messenger and demanded: "How many are left?!"
The messenger didn't dare hesitate: "I saw ten plus raiding cavalry."
Ten plus…
Qin Feng lifted his head, scanning—then realized the mobile guerrilla harassment wasn't coming from just one direction, but from all sides.
If the messenger saw ten plus raiding cavalry, that meant every engagement point, in every direction, had ten plus.
That adds up to at least two or three hundred.
How could the Snow Wolf Brigade's You Ji Cavalry be increasing? Something's wrong—very wrong!
Qin Feng realized the danger and ordered at once: "All troops, prepare for battle! The Snow Wolf Brigade's light cavalry has arrived—the main force must be close!"
"Send messengers to the Rear for reinforcements! Flanking cavalry, launch offensive action and pursue the enemy raiders! Remaining troops, retreat slowly!"
As the orders rang out, soldiers carried out their duties in orderly fashion, retreating backward.
They dared not retreat quickly—after prolonged pursuit, the warhorses were exhausted; if they collapsed, the Snow Wolf reinforcements would catch them in no time.
And Qin Feng was certain: with Chen Mou dead, the Snow Wolf Brigade would fight to the death.
Only by preserving and restoring the horses' strength could they fight a desperate last stand against the enemy's main force.
Meanwhile, Deputy General Chen Li of the Snow Wolf Brigade led two thousand Snow Wolf Cavalry, galloping urgently toward the scene.
Suddenly, a messenger appeared before Chen Li, and a shout rang out.
"General! Disaster! Commander Chen has been beheaded by Qin Feng!"
