Chapter 103: The Extinction of the Huang Tong Dragon

~9 min read 1,651 words

The bloodline of the Dragon race allows for the transmission of particularly important information to all dragons or dragon-kin through bloodline resonance. The extinction of the Huang Tong Dragon is a piece of information of such critical importance within the Dragon race that it is almost equivalent to the prelude to the Great Extinction of the Dragon race.

The Dragon race has three ancient dragon species: the Huang Tong Dragon, the Bronze Dragon, and the Red Copper Dragon. The three high-ranking dragons are the Gold Dragon, the Silver Dragon, and the Black Dragon. The low-ranking dragons include the Red Dragon, the Green Dragon, and the Blue Dragon.

Beyond these, there are a vast number of sub-dragon species and dragon-kin. Given the nature of dragons, one could never hope to count how many sub-dragons and dragon-kin have existed throughout history or are currently being added.

But regardless of their numbers, only ancient dragons, high-ranking dragons, and low-ranking dragons are recognized as members of the Dragon race, and they must be pure-blooded. If a dragon is born from a Huang Tong Dragon and a Bronze Dragon, it is classified as a sub-dragon species.

Why say "if"? Because there is reproductive isolation between ancient dragons and high-ranking dragons; they cannot breed with each other. Conversely, they have no such isolation with low-ranking dragons or other species. It is truly strange.

Red, Green, and Blue dragons can mate and reproduce with Huang Tong, Bronze, and Red Copper dragons, as well as Gold, Silver, and Black dragons, giving birth to various Red-Gold dragons, Blue-Silver dragons, Green-Black dragons, chameleons, and so on.

But no matter how many are born, they all belong to the sub-dragon species, and their strength will suffer a cliff-like decline.

The offspring born from high-ranking dragons and low-ranking dragons, such as a Black Dragon and a Green Dragon, have a strength ceiling basically at the level of a Green Dragon. They will not exceed the Green Dragon, and it is even more impossible for them to reach or exceed the Black Dragon.

Therefore, crossbreeding causes the species to degenerate, and only pure-blooded ones can be powerful. Dragons are creatures that believe in bloodline theory. If they were like canines, where crossbreeding could evolve the species—like werewolves—they probably wouldn't care about bloodlines.

Their numbers were already scarce, and when broken down to each specific variety, the numbers were even fewer.

Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si remembered that when he was still alive, there were still twelve Huang Tong Dragons capable of triggering bloodline resonance. Thousands of years have passed, and the Huang Tong Dragons have actually gone extinct?

"Ho... how did they go extinct?" Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si could not accept this fact.

"All the male dragons died, leaving only four female dragons, so they went extinct." Fei Lin relayed the words of Black Face. Having reincarnated into the body of a young dragon, Black Face had not yet adapted to the dragon's body and couldn't even speak, only able to make whimpering sounds. Only Fei Lin could understand what he said.

"Ah? Is that the kind of extinction it is?" Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si was stunned, and his mood suddenly felt much better.

If he had been told from the beginning that eight Huang Tong Dragons had died, he might have been very sad.

But because it was originally said they were extinct, he thought they were all dead. Suddenly hearing that four females remained, his emotions couldn't rise anymore. It seemed this result hadn't reached the worst-case scenario yet and was still acceptable.

But when he really had to accept it, he felt a tightness in his heart. With only four female dragons left and not a single male, their fate was already sealed.

In the near future, pure-blooded Huang Tong Dragons will go extinct. By then, no one will ever know that there was once an ancient dragon species in the Dragon race—the Huang Tong Dragon.

Unless, a living male dragon is found right now. Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si looked down between his legs, and his eyes lit up. Isn't he a 'male' dragon himself?

As long as he finds those female dragons and mounts them, couldn't he continue the species?

Although he no longer had this ability, it just so happened that a young dragon cultivated from his own scales had survived.

As long as he raises it and lets it mount the female dragons, wouldn't that be the same as him doing it? It would still be his own bloodline being continued, and the young dragons born would have to call him father.

Thinking of this, Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si's eyes shone. His biggest regret back then wasn't actually being sealed; after all, the Undead Monarch hadn't intentionally killed him, letting him live until his natural end.

And being sealed wasn't a bad thing either; it was the only way to grant him eternal life without damaging his divinity. If he had been reincarnated as an undead creature, his divinity would have been lost.

So don't look at him complaining about Jian Gu Luo Ke and the Monarch all day; in reality, Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si didn't hate them at all. The only dissatisfaction he had was that the Monarch, Luo Ke, and the others had disappeared, and he had been sealed in a book for over a thousand years, unable to go anywhere.

Like now, projecting into a shell specifically made for him, isn't he living quite happily?

His biggest regret was never having mounted other female dragons. It is said that male dragons are lustful, but he had loved reading and learning knowledge since he was young. After learning some things, he became fond of teaching others. Whenever someone asked him a question, he would answer enthusiastically.

Then, he slowly accumulated some fame and followers, and some people even wrote biographies for him. Then, inexplicably, he ignited his divine fire.

Dragons pass on their heritage through bloodlines. Not being able to have one's own bloodline descendants is a regret that weighs heavily on a dragon's mind.

A scale was pulled off, the size of a fingernail. Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si pulled Ang and said, "Come, help me engrave: The God of Knowledge has made a divine vow to save the Huang Tong Dragons, never to return until they are saved. Engrave the words small and fit them all in. If I die, you can use this scale to help me recreate a body."

"Cannot engrave it all." Ang said. To engrave so many words on a fingernail-sized area, Ang could not do it.

"You can. Gather the elements on the surface and ignite them, using elemental power to etch it. This is called elemental etching. Your control is definitely capable of doing it. Try it." Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si gestured.

Following Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si's method, Ang carefully began to etch the text. If done this way, breaking the text down into elemental particles, it could indeed be done.

A red dot lit up on the surface of the scale, then rapidly extended, forming individual characters. The magic resistance of the Huang Tong Dragon's scales was very high. The red dot extended once, leaving only a layer of almost invisible shallow marks, just like the scratches left on the second page when writing with a hard pen.

If once isn't clear, then engrave it a few more times. Ang habitually repeated it. After a dozen times, he had clearly engraved Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si's sentence onto the scale.

"Keep it. If I die, remember to help me resurrect. I'm leaving. I'm going to save my race, save my fellow dragons." Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si stuffed the scale into Ang's hand and resolutely turned to walk toward the teleportation array.

Lu Se grabbed him: "I'm going with you. You just want to go mount female dragons. Don't think we can't tell."

"Ah?" Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si turned his head in astonishment and looked around: "You all saw it? Is it that obvious?"

Everyone nodded together.

Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si, having been caught, had no choice but to take Lu Se along and step into the teleportation array.

The other side of the teleportation array was one set up by Yin Bi. The identification was only in Ang's hands, which meant that even if no one was controlling the teleportation array on this side, Ang could still teleport over directly.

The goblin guarding the teleportation array was still the one Yin Bi trusted most. Seeing a young dragon and a human come out of the room, he didn't even lift his eyelids, as if he hadn't seen them at all.

In the room where the teleportation array was located, there was a carriage specifically prepared by Yin Bi. They brought over horses, harnessed them, and let Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si hide in the carriage. Lu Se drove the carriage out of the house.

The place where the teleportation array was set up was very clever. Outside was a busy street with people coming and going. The complex environment, on the contrary, could better hide the existence of the teleportation array.

Lu Se hadn't driven the carriage far when a series of screams and shouts suddenly rang out from behind: "Ah! Skeleton! Angel!"

Lu Se and Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si felt an ominous feeling in their hearts simultaneously. Looking back, they saw that at the door of the house they had just left, a skeleton, an angel, and a little zombie wearing black armor were staring blankly at the crowd running away in fright.

On the head of that skeleton, there was even a flower pot.
