Chapter 1633: Cut It Down If There's Nothing

~7 min read 1,217 words

Ulsman learned shadow levitation through a single "floating" character, and when he later taught it to everyone, only Anthony and Eluni could master it, while Nai Ge Li Si and the others could not.

This is like mastering all painting techniques but still failing to become a painter—many skills are required, and those who lack them cannot perform the techniques even if they understand the principle.

"Well, I don't like fighting anyway, so you guys go ahead and brawl." Nai Ge Li Si said resignedly.

This hollow region is vast, after all, it can squeeze in dozens of god stars; converted to distance, it's estimated to be over ten sections, and if light were to run through it, it would likely take several years.

However, the Star Descendants have an advantage in star shifting, and they possess an even greater one: anyone can casually switch back to the Phantom Slice, and Ange can throw them with such force that they fly many times farther than star shifting allows.

Then everyone soul-linked with him, using him as a coordinate for soul translocation, instantly crossing a distance far beyond what star shifting can achieve.

Soon everyone arrived at Morania's position, and from afar they saw a massive rock-shelled giant sphere.

Although Morania is already a very small god star, it is still over six times larger than the Little Fire Man god star, appearing as a huge round ball.

On the rock shell, a Myriad Worlds Divine Tree lay prone on the surface, resembling an octopus sprawled across the god star, covering more than half of the spherical body.

"The divine tree doesn't grow upward but lies flat on the ground; it seems it has maintained this form for a very long time," Ulsman said.

"Why say that?" Nai Ge Li Si didn't understand how lying flat to grow relates to "maintaining form for a long time"—these divine trees can grow however they wish.

Initially, the God of Life disguised himself as a forest, appearing as a species-rich primordial forest, but in reality, it was all his own branches.

"Because the Myriad Worlds Divine Tree's growth requires energy, lying on the rock shell allows it to absorb energy more effectively," Ulsman said.

"No, the Myriad Worlds Divine Tree's growth requires life force, not energy; as long as there are living things growing around it, it gains energy for eternal life and doesn't need to lie on the rock shell," Nai Ge Li Si countered.

"So only life force is needed? No other energy required? For example, increment?" Ulsman asked.

Nai Ge Li Si nodded: "Only life force is needed; it can also use other energies, but they won't affect its growth or development."

"Oh, then the greatest possibility is that it lies this way to grow, which helps it absorb life force," Ulsman speculated.

When everyone drew close enough to see clearly, the scene indeed confirmed Ulsman's speculation.

Only then did they see that on the trunk of the Myriad Worlds Divine Tree, giant cities were scattered across it, with countless life forms living there, bustling with activity.

"I understand now—the rock shell's temperature is too high, so life lives and reproduces on the tree, which uses itself as an insulating layer," Nai Ge Li Si said.

Then everyone quickly noticed another situation: life still exists on the rock shell, where they ride giant treemen and rock turtles, constantly wandering across it, digging here and there, mainly in the shell's fissures, extracting some star flame and collecting it.

"Hunting? Treating star flame as prey? What an interesting ecology," Eluni remarked, rarely interjecting.

"Not hunting—more like dwarven prospectors, wandering everywhere to find mineral veins," Anthony said.

Such prospectors wandering on the shell are not few; their mounts—or rather, mobile towns—are precisely those giant treemen and rock turtles.

The treemen have many wooden houses on them, housing several thousand people, equivalent to a large town, while the rock turtles' backs hold even more—tens of thousands, nearly forming a city.

This fascinating ecology prompted everyone to summon their Star Descendant avatars, descending onto the god star's surface to observe.

On one rock turtle, a castle was built at its highest point, with the rest of the structures arranged around it in descending levels, the lower the level, the rougher the construction; at the "skirt" position, it had already become a shantytown, built haphazardly from unplaned wooden planks and bark.

Some humanoid creatures were playing and roughhousing between the buildings; seeing Ange's group descend, some fled in fear behind their companions, while others happily greeted them.

It was a language never heard before; Nai Ge Li Si spoke with them for a while and soon mastered it.

"Here, what place? Name, what?" Nai Ge Li Si asked.

"Arilis, this is Arilis," said one of the most enthusiastic Mo people.

Nai Ge Li Si named these humanoid beings the Mo people, because they live on Morania's body.

"Is Arilis it, or is it it?" Nai Ge Li Si first pointed to the rock turtle, then to the rock-shelled god star beneath his feet.

The Mo people pointed to the rock turtle: "Arilis." Then pointed to the ground: "Mo, Mo!"

As the Mo people spoke, Ange suddenly tilted his head, gazing into the depths of the god star, where a thought was moving toward them, sweeping past Ange and his companions, discovering they were Star Descendants, then withdrawing.

This scan was extremely faint, so much so that Nai Ge Li Si didn't notice it, merely wondering aloud: "Just now, was something looking at us?"

"Mo, is Mo, call him, he protects us," the Mo people said.

Truly a harmonious symbiotic relationship—Morania actually responds to the casual calls of ordinary Mo people, nothing like Ange's laziness at all.

From the Mo people, they gained much information; Nai Ge Li Si took out a one-watt increment and gave it to the Mo people, startling them so much they jumped: "No, no, too much, thank you."

"Too much? Give you half? A quarter? An eighth? No need to cut it—just take it." Nai Ge Li Si handed over an eighth-watt increment to the Mo people, then asked the others doubtfully: "Is that a lot?"

For the Star Descendants, it's not much, but Nai Ge Li Si forgot that these Mo people are not Star Descendants; on their plane, even gods aren't necessarily their match, let alone these Mo people—this is equivalent to handing divine currency to an ordinary person.

"Forget it, let's go—there's too much life here, I won't kill it," Nai Ge Li Si said.

The others naturally turned and left, only Dalisuo hesitated for a moment, instinctively glancing at Ange, then at Anthony.

Possibly sensing his gaze, Anthony turned his head and glanced at him, then smiled with deep meaning.

Dalisuo quickly caught up, standing beside Anthony, and whispered: "Lord Anthony, you two are actually not..."

Anthony calmly asked: "Not what?"

"Not... not... what are you?" Dalisuo took a deep breath, not answering but posing the question back.

"Your understanding of the Ghost Patrol is too little—I say what we are, and we are what I say," Anthony said,

Dalisuo exhaled: "Understood."

After speaking, he changed the subject: "That one ahead isn't big either—let's go see if there's life there; if not, we'll cut it down."
