Chapter 18: God-Making
Purification is a very simple first-rank spell, and Ang learned it quickly. Watching a skeleton release holy light from its hand, Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si felt the satisfaction of having his dark humor fulfilled.
Some say Purification is a spell to purify undead creatures and that undead creatures cannot learn it. Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si scoffed at this. Light countering darkness is correct, but light countering the undead is a typical fallacy; it mainly stems from the fact that the undead dislike sunlight.
But do living people not dislike sunlight? Put them in the summer noon sun for two hours and see. One can only say that living people have a higher tolerance for sunlight.
And in the history Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si knew, the reason Purification countered the undead was because it was a 'Holy' Light spell.
Adding the word 'Holy' to a Light spell meant it belonged to the category of divine arts, containing a portion of the effect of 'will'. Holy Light magic not only countered the undead but also countered all heretics, including demons and elemental creatures.
As long as it didn't carry this targeted 'will' effect, Holy Light magic would become a very pure Light spell.
After drinking a cup of purified Holy Water, the little girl quickly shed her negative status and fell asleep peacefully.
The boy let out a sigh of relief and kowtowed gratefully to Ang. Ang had been busy, raining and purifying, and he had seen it all. This made him realize that it wasn't the fire on the altar that saved his sister, but this skeleton before him.
Two more soul flames drifted from his body, not toward the Undead Holy Fire, but directly into Ang's body.
Two soul flames were seen intertwining and condensing in Ang's soul, turning into a strange symbol, floating on the flame light exhaled by his soul heart.
After telling Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si about this strange change, he heard the brass dragon's jealous voice: "What a lucky bastard. You have gained his faith. From now on, he is your believer—a zealot. Lucky bastard, you don't even have a godhead, you fake god, and you even stole the soul network. Ku Ba Da!"
'Ku Ba Da' had the meaning of insult and death in the magic language. When used alone, it had the effect of a strong modal particle, representing that Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si was in a terrible mood and wanted to curse.
Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si had once deeply studied the relationship between gods and believers, and the final conclusion was: it was not gods who created believers, but believers who created gods.
Just like Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si himself, he was originally just a knowledgeable brass dragon. Because many people believed in him, over time, he ignited the divine fire.
But to be honest, this God of Knowledge was a bit hollow. Igniting the divine fire relied on the accumulation of time; he only barely ignited it when he was about eight thousand years old. Ultimately, it was because he had no zealots.
Everyone think about it: among those who believe in knowledge, how many can be fanatical? Intellectuals are more scum than the scummiest scum. Yesterday they were swearing that the earth was flat; today, after obtaining sufficient evidence, they can immediately eat all their words.
What they believe in is truth, not the brass dragon who taught them knowledge.
But there are thousands of truths, and they are ever-changing. Water flowing to a lower place is originally a truth, but in a certain abyss plane, water flows to a higher place because that abyss has a large amount of liquid mercury, and water has a lower specific gravity and will float on top of the mercury.
Human life is very short, with an average life expectancy of forty or fifty years, yet they have created a large number of gods. Why? Because they possess a large number of fanatical believers.
If it is said that believers create gods, then zealots are the key to god-making because they will spread your deeds, infecting more people to believe in you. Therefore, zealots often become the key to igniting the divine fire.
Could the brass dragon not be jealous? He had lived for eight thousand years and couldn't run into a single zealot, and his believers were relatively scum, leading to his lack of divine power.
Weak divine power would be fine, but he happened to have a godhead. And so, the Undead Monarch took a fancy to him and sealed him in the Huang Tong Book. And those scum believers of his never once thought of a way to rescue him.
The brass dragon was wallowing in self-pity, but Ang had already put on his straw hat and transformed into a human form. Only in this way could he make a sound to speak: "What happened? They, chasing you?"
Seeing Ang turn into a human with just a hat, the boy's eyes widened. Wasn't this a miracle? If washing hands in an oil pan counted as a miracle, then a person changing into another was a miracle among miracles. In an instant, the boy's faith became a few points firmer.
"Plague, blockade, leaving home, kill, sister sick, no save, die, fight." Originally thinking Ang's speech was not smooth enough, he didn't expect the boy's speech to be even less smooth, popping out one word at a time.
However, this just happened to fit Ang's speaking habit. As soon as he heard it, he understood: "Plague? Dysentery? This kind?" As he spoke, he pointed to the little girl.
The blockade was sudden. Ang only saw that believers didn't come for a night, but didn't know what had happened.
"Yes, many people died, isolation, skeletons send food, but no treatment," the boy said.
Actually, it wasn't that they didn't treat, but there were too few treatment mages. Poor people like them wouldn't get treatment. If they got sick, they could only tough it out. If they made it through, everything would be fine; if they didn't, they would die at home.
"Many people died?" After thinking for a while, Ang asked: "Can skeletons go out?"
"Many, skeletons can, don't get sick," the boy replied.
Ang took out a plate, filled it with clean water, cast several Purification spells on it, and then held the plate, preparing to leave the temple.
"Where are you going?" Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si couldn't help but ask.
"Send to the minotaur," Ang replied.
"Oh, that family's faith is quite pious, go take a look. But shouldn't you ask your zealot's name?" Lord Lord Lord Nai Ge Li Si was truly impressed by Ang. This was a zealot, and he didn't even ask his name. How would he order him around in the future?
Ang asked for the boy's name, and the boy replied excitedly: "Ou Ke."
Bringing the purified water to the minotaur's home, the minotaur family was already lying on the bed, vomiting and having diarrhea until they were dehydrated, on the verge of death. Poor minotaurs who were so poor they ate moss, there was no need to think; they were bound to be infected.
After drinking a cup of purified water, the tenacious minotaur family immediately became full of life. The whole family grabbed Ang and kowtowed. This was the only way they could think of to express their gratitude.
The soul flames surging from their bodies directly entered Ang's body, actually not needing the transfer of the Undead Fire anymore.
This change was clearly related to the symbol on the soul fire, but Ang's attention had already been attracted by something else.
Hanging on the wall was an animal skull wearing an eye patch. From the two sharp horns on the skull, which were similar to the minotaur's but a circle thicker, it could be seen that this might be the ancestor of Auntie Minotaur's family.
"Yes, this is exactly my great-grandfather, La Che Tie Ti." What a simple and unadorned name.
What attracted Ang's attention was naturally not the skull, but the soul fire inside. This skull had already given birth to a soul and become a skeleton, but unfortunately, it was hung on the wall, and there was no skeleton nearby to combine with, so it could only hang like this.
"Has a soul? No wonder its eye sockets are on fire. So Grandma put an eye patch on it. Then what to do? This is the ancestor's skull; continuing to hang it is too disrespectful. How about putting it in the temple?" After discussing, the family decided to hand the skull to Ang to take to the temple, believing that the Undead Temple could better arrange the soul inside the skull.
Just like that, Ang inexplicably hugged a minotaur skull back. Returning to the temple, he found that Fei Lin had been waiting here for a long time, pacing anxiously. ===== CHAPTER 19 =====
