Chapter 212: Received One Hundred Years Later
Stepping on the dry, cracked ground, Ange instantly grasped the land's attributes through experience: barren, arid, and full of sand and gravel.
Turning to look in the direction of the light, the cave entrance was not far away; light slanted in through the opening. Judging by the angle and size of the entrance, the daily sunlight exposure would not be sufficient.
The moisture in the nearby air was thin, and the air was turbid, indicating poor circulation. Such land was rarely reclaimed into farmland, and crop yields would not be high.
But Ange no longer cared; he hadn't planted anything in a long time, and his farming soul could no longer be restrained.
Oh, in the Holy Kingdom, he managed those elf beans, and in the farm of the Palace of Rest, various crops were thriving, with a cultivated area far larger than the one he had in the Palace of Rest over a thousand years ago.
However, having reclaimed the paddy fields by the Fallen Dragon Lake and on the lake's central island, Ange no longer looked down on such small-scale operations; if left to him to plant those two plots, he would have finished them before even warming up.
"Ao!" Ange turned and called out to the little angel.
The little angel hurriedly ran over holding the Earth Holy Hammer and smashed away with a rumbling boom.
With the Earth Holy Hammer, he had even become unfamiliar with the Loosening Soil Technique.
"Ao!" Ange turned and called out to the little zombie.
The little zombie raised both hands, condensed a hoe, and dug furiously; soon a trench was excavated in the ground, with the soil precisely turned over to both sides to form two ridges.
Through unremitting training, the little zombie had grown into an outstanding trench-digging master, able to dig wherever he wanted and as deep as he wanted.
"Ao!" Ange called out to Nai Ge Li Si.
Nai Ge Li Si, helpless and dejected, flew over to Ange's side and was fitted with a backpack basket; beneath the basket was a small turntable from which a rope extended, pulled by Nai Ge Li Si's tiny short claws.
Each pull rotated the turntable one full circle, causing seeds to drop out one by one; as long as he flew along the furrows, the seeds would fall to the ground at regular intervals.
"Eh? My Lord Nai Ge, the sowing tool has been upgraded?" Luther ran over, watching with curiosity.
Previously, he had seen Ange and others sowing seeds: either carrying a cloth bag with a hole punched in the bottom, letting seeds fall in whatever quantity fate decreed, or relying on Ange to sprinkle them one by one using magic.
But now Ange had tasks and couldn't spare his hands; after Nai Ge Li Si scattered the seeds, Luther followed behind, his hands like two watering cans, drenching the ground thoroughly.
After watering, Ange stepped down, leaving a footprint.
The entire process flowed like water and clouds, leaving Selina dumbfounded; no water source was needed? Direct magical water condensation? Good heavens, was he mad?
And it could even accelerate growth? According to the Blind Sword Saint, it would take only three hours to mature and harvest?
Originally, Selina had been half-skeptical about the claims of the Undead God and the God of Knowledge; now she believed the other was truly a "God," the God of Planting!
Ange, full of enthusiasm, brought out phosphates from the Palace of Rest and evenly sprinkled them between the soil ridges using the Pollination Technique to improve the land's nutrition.
Midway, he watered the fields twice more; once flowers appeared, he activated the Pollination Technique.
After completing the entire sequence, three hours later, Selina saw a field of mature grain, heavy and drooping.
Selina walked dazedly to the edge of the field, staring blankly at the bountiful crops, her expression infinitely complex: "If we could grow food this quickly, so many people wouldn't have starved to death; my younger brother wouldn't have gone missing while searching for food everywhere, and we still don't know if he is alive or dead; my parents..."
Selina could not continue; she choked and began to sob.
A strong, powerful hand pressed onto her shoulder, squeezing firmly, as if transmitting strength to her.
Selina could hold back no longer; with a wail, she burst into tears, grabbed that hand, and executed a shoulder throw.
Luther, caught off guard, was instantly thrown flying, spinning through the air before landing flat on his back.
After crying for a few moments, Selina quickly calmed down, walked over to the still-dazed Luther on the ground, and pulled him up: "Thank you; hitting you made me feel much better."
"I, you, this... what realm are you in? Your movements are so fast, your strength so great?" Luther had already broken through to High-Grade Sword Saint; even without defense, he shouldn't have been thrown flying by an ordinary person, yet Selina showed no sign of any power—no battle qi, no magic.
"I don't know; anyway, after selling my soul to the Big Cat, my strength became exceptionally great." Selina flexed her elbow, revealing her biceps, which were actually quite solid.
Nai Ge Li Si interjected: "Divine Art users are similar to Saint Priestesses possessed by holy spirits, but Dimensional Beasts are naturally strong and fast; these traits have manifested in her."
Luther looked at Selina's arm, drooling, and involuntarily reached out to touch it, exclaiming: "So you've never trained in battle qi? Your bone structure is extraordinary, your tendons and fascia fully developed; even without training, you possess such qualities. If you had undergone strict training since childhood and eaten plenty of beetroot, meat, eggs, and milk, wouldn't you be ready to take flight?"
Selina clenched her fist and said to the fellow whose hot breath was practically blowing onto her arm: "If you get any closer, I'll make you take flight."
Whoosh! A figure holding a sickle upside down darted past them at lightning speed, and the crops on the ground fell neatly in rows.
After harvesting the crops, threshing them, and then drying the remaining stalks to remove moisture, they were burned to ash and scattered back into the farmland, repeating the steps from three hours earlier.
Selina's emotions had calmed; seeing this, she couldn't help but say: "Do you still need to plant? If you do, I'll go back first; when the Big Cat pulled me over, I was still in the bath, all sticky."
Nai Ge Li Si said: "Wait a moment; once the seeds are sown, we'll leave. There's no light at the cave entrance anymore; even if you wanted to plant, nothing would grow."
After waiting a while, Ange finished sowing the seeds, watered them thoroughly, and then led the group out of the cave.
Exiting the cave, they found the entrance halfway up the mountainside; on both sides stretched mountain ranges that seemed endless, like a wall. Below the mountain range lay an endless plain, desolate and lifeless, with what appeared to be a layer of blackish ash covering the ground, stretching all the way to the edge of the earth.
"Is that... Xirang?" Nai Ge Li Si looked down at the plain and suddenly blurted out involuntarily.
Selina turned back and said: "Xirang? No, that's dead ash, the ashes of death. If undead creatures become numerous in a certain area, such dead ash will grow on the ground."
"Isn't it just Xirang? So much of it? How many undead creatures are there here, exactly?" Nai Ge Li Si asked.
Selina shook her head: "I don't know that. Anyway, once Eternal Night arrives, half of the Land of Perdition is filled with undead creatures, densely packed like a market fair. By the way, we live in that area at the foot of the mountains where there is no dead ash."
Following Selina's pointing, Nai Ge Li Si saw a narrow-looking gap between the Land of Death and the mountain range from the mountain top, but in reality, it was a vast expanse of land; there was indeed a town there without even city walls.
"What? You live there? Aren't you afraid of the undead creatures? With no shelter or cover, a single wave of skeletons and zombies could flatten you all." Nai Ge Li Si exclaimed in surprise.
Selina asked in astonishment: "Why be afraid of undead creatures? They don't collect taxes; occasionally, they even provide us with food aid, saying they fear we'll starve and become too thin. They only require that after we die, we hand over our bodies to them. We can live peacefully on this land, so there's nothing to fear. The real monsters are those worms in the Church; refugees who fled from the other side of the mountains say the Church has already collected taxes up to one hundred years into the future."
PS: I'm a bit sleepy and can't write anymore; I'll sleep first.
