Chapter 218: Snatched It—It Belongs Here
The two attendants dropped to their knees with a thud and said loudly, "Greetings, my lord. May we ask if this is your property? This lowly wretch stole something of yours. Please forgive us, my lord. We'll take her away right now."
Seeing Ange tilted his head, looked at the little girl clutching her brother, trembling and on the verge of tears, then looked at the two aggressive attendants, and suddenly said, "You're lying."
A wave of pure holy power swept out. With a few cracks, several shackles made of holy light erupted from the ground, firmly binding the two attendants.
"Original Sin Shackles?!" The two attendants went pale with terror and cried out in panic, "Spare us, my lord! You've misunderstood, my lord! We are without sin! We are attendants of the Divine Knight Samaran! We are not sinners!"
"Original Sin Shackles!?" Inside Seeing Ange's soul, Lord Nai Ge Li Si also cried out in shock and panic, "When did you learn Original Sin Shackles? Why can you cast them without holy words?"
What shocked Lord Nai Ge Li Si was that Seeing Ange had unknowingly learned Original Sin Shackles, but what shocked it even more was that Seeing Ange didn't need to add holy words, like "God said."
Oh heavens, he was using his own power to condemn these two people, because he himself is a god—his words are holy words!
But the problem was, he is the God of the Undead. Even if he could condemn others in his own name, what he cast shouldn't have been Original Sin Shackles, but rather a Cage of Sin.
Lord Nai Ge Li Si was completely baffled. It had lived for over ten thousand years and had never seen anything so absurd.
Seeing Ange was equally at a loss. He had only felt that these two humans were lying, so he had simply stated the fact. Why had a few chains sprung up?
Original Sin Shackles? When he had first encountered Nigeula, Nigeula had once cast them on him, but they shattered at a touch, and Nigeula had been horrified at why a sinless person existed.
But the chains he'd seen back then were just chains of light. Yet the chains now—Seeing Ange only had to look at them and he could "see" their information. On the two attendants were chains labeled "Pride" and "Greed" respectively, and one of them had an additional chain of "Lust."
"Why can I see these?" Seeing Ange asked in confusion through their soul link.
Lord Nai Ge Li Si replied, "Then I don't know. I don't know how to use Original Sin Shackles either. Ask Andoni."
Seeing Ange contacted Andoni through their soul link. Andoni said with certainty, "Can't see them? And you can see the information on each chain? That can't be right. There's no need anyway. The guilty ones all get burned—who cares what sin it is."
If Andoni couldn't see the information on the chains, then Nigeula probably couldn't either, and even Pope Guli Anni couldn't. Seeing Ange was different from them.
"This further proves these shackles were cast with your power. Kuabada, who would still dare say you're not from the Church of Light? Even if you took off your hat right now and showed your bare bones, no one would believe you're an undead creature. Do you know any other moves?" Lord Nai Ge Li Si said.
Good grief, even if Seeing Ange took off his hat now and ran up to people saying he was an undead creature, no one would care. A being who could cast Original Sin Shackles—even if he were a skeleton, he would definitely be a god's skeleton!
Seeing Ange shook his head. He didn't know how he had cast it either. He had only sensed that these two people were lying.
Just as Seeing Ange was pondering who to ask, the Original Sin Shackles wound tighter and tighter, then burst into flames. Holy fire burned the two attendants, making them scream in agony.
Everyone in the area was alarmed. The slum dwellers, who had been like walking corpses, gradually gathered around. A spark of life returned to their hollow eyes—resentment, satisfaction, fervor—as they watched the screaming attendants.
The commotion also alerted the local authorities. A squad of knights charged over, lashing the slum dwellers on the road: "Make way, make way!" brutally beating a path open.
But when they reached the front and saw the situation in the clearing, the leading holy knight's expression changed drastically. He immediately dismounted and dropped to one knee in salute.
The soldiers behind him were dumbfounded seeing their captain's action, and hurriedly knelt and saluted, copying his example.
Then, without daring to utter a single word, the leading holy knight stood up with his head bowed, led his horse by the reins, and retreated at a speed even faster than when he'd come.
Only after retreating beyond the crowd, out of Seeing Ange's line of sight, unable to see what was happening inside, did the leading holy knight finally let out a long breath. He took off his helmet and wiped his brow—it was drenched in sweat.
His subordinates asked in confusion, "Captain, what's going on? Do you know that lord? Is he very fierce?"
The leading holy knight shook his head. "I don't know that lord, but I know Original Sin Shackles. This is a judgment."
"Oh, so those chains are Original Sin Shackles? Then why are we retreating? Shouldn't we be helping the lord maintain order?" the young knight asked.
The leading holy knight gave him a strange look and teased, "Oh? So you're a sinless person, are you? Never peeked at the neighbor auntie taking a bath?"
The young knight's face immediately flushed red, and he retorted indignantly, "Of course I have! More than once!"
"Tsk tsk tsk, that's called Lust. Never taken bribes? That's called Greed. Never beaten those slum dwellers? That's called Cruelty. Never slept past seven or eight and didn't want to get up? That's called Sloth. With so many original sins on you, if that lord were to shout at you: 'You are guilty!'—would you dare swear you're sinless? Help out? Watch the show? Get lost. Get as far away as possible. Don't let the lord see you."
The young knight went pale. At the same moment, two piercing screams rang out from the crowd, and holy fire shot skyward.
The squad of holy knights immediately turned around and fled in a panic, but they didn't go too far. After running several hundred meters, they spread out and intercepted other companions rushing over.
"There's a lord up ahead using Original Sin Shackles for judgment. Do you really want to go over?"
Hearing this, anyone who didn't consider themselves absolutely sinless quickly stopped.
And so a strange situation arose. Seeing Ange had burned people to ashes right here, yet not a single member of the Church of Light was to be seen. This left Lord Nai Ge Li Si quite forlorn—it had already prepared several excuses, only to find none of them needed.
While the holy flames were still burning, Seeing Ange placed his hand on the little girl's brother's neck and activated Spot-Removal.
This severe goiter caused by malnutrition was easy to treat—just eat more kelp, seaweed, or sea salt. Unfortunately, there wasn't any sea salt here, and even regular salt was scarce. Salt could almost serve as hard currency here.
A Spot-Removal treatment in Meishencheng would cost tens of thousands of magic crystals for a single session, and it would only remove a tiny bit of pigment deposits. Yet Seeing Ange had to remove such a massive enlarged gland.
With a sizzling sound, the little girl's brother's neck visibly shrank.
The others witnessing this felt even more awe. Several parents whose children had the same condition rushed forward with their children, not knowing what to say, only knowing to kowtow forcefully.
Pure soul flames rose from these parents, all except one sharp-mouthed, monkey-jawed fellow, whose eyes instead darted around shrewdly.
The soul flames these people offered weren't directed at Seeing Ange, but Seeing Ange had already intercepted them and wasn't stingy about returning equivalent value.
One by one, the children with goiters were treated by Seeing Ange. When he finally came before the sharp-mouthed, monkey-jawed fellow, he suddenly said to him, "You are guilty."
The sharp-mouthed, monkey-jawed fellow started violently, raised his head in terror to look at Seeing Ange, his whole body tensing up.
But several seconds passed and no chains sprang up. The sharp-mouthed, monkey-jawed fellow let out a long sigh and kowtowed gleefully, "I'm not guilty! I'm not guilty! Hehe!"
Lord Nai Ge Li Si asked in confusion, "Why didn't it take effect? What crime did he commit?"
"This child isn't his," Seeing Ange said, pointing at the infant in the man's arms.
"A thief? A child kidnapper?" Lord Nai Ge Li Si exclaimed, "That doesn't fall under the original sins, so it indeed can't trigger Original Sin Shackles. What do we do? I don't like the look of him."
Among the onlookers, clearly some recognized this fellow. While he was gleefully kowtowing, someone couldn't help but curse, "You thief, and you're not guilty? You'll die a terrible death! You've kidnapped and sold so many children. My lord, he's a thief who specializes in stealing children!"
The sharp-mouthed, monkey-jawed fellow turned his head smugly, "I'm not guilty! I'm not guilty! The Original Sin Shackles prove I'm innocent! Hahahaha..."
Seeing Ange tilted his head, reached out and snatched the infant from the man's arms, then kicked him in the chest, sending him flying with a caved-in chest, blood spraying from his mouth. He was dead before he even hit the ground.
Thud—the sharp-mouthed, monkey-jawed fellow's body landed limply on the ground.
"Uh, wasn't he not guilty? Why'd you kill him?" Lord Nai Ge Li Si was startled and asked without thinking.
Seeing Ange asked in confusion, "Can't I kill him?"
This counter-question suddenly jolted Lord Nai Ge Li Si awake, "Oh right, I was overthinking it. Kuabada, we're not from the Church of Light—do we have to judge them first before killing them?"
The current scene gave Lord Nai Ge Li Si an illusion, as if this were an Original Sin Judgment site. Not only it, but that thief had the same illusion, thinking that since he had no original sins, nothing would happen to him.
What a joke—since when did the God of the Undead need to condemn someone before killing them?
After finishing everything here, Seeing Ange turned and left. The watching crowd silently parted to make way, their eyes burning as they watched him. Their faces no longer wore that numb, walking-corpse expression, but were instead filled with excitement and hope.
Seeing this scene, Nai Ge Li Si couldn't help but complain: "What's the meaning of this? You're a skeleton running off to perform miracles for the Church of Light — the faith they offer will just become power to strengthen the Light."
Seeing Ange shook his head: "I snatched it."
"Snatched what?" Nai Ge Li Si asked, puzzled. "You snatched the soul flame, sure, but could you snatch the believers too? After you leave, the faith they offer will still flow back into the Light."
"I snatched it, brought it here." Seeing Ange raised his index finger — the little wraith clinging to it had overeaten, and opened its mouth to let out a long "Haa—".
Nai Ge Li Si thought of an unbelievable possibility: "You mean you snatched that believers' faith network?"
Seeing Ange nodded.
"How could that be…" He had barely uttered a few words when Nai Ge Li Si suddenly realized — why couldn't it be? He thought it impossible only because no one had ever done it before.
But just because no one had ever done it, does that mean it's hard?
Maybe it wasn't hard at all — it was just that in the past, someone had kept a close watch. Now that the gods of Light were gone, what was impossible about Seeing Ange tearing off a piece of the faith network?
Rather than agonizing over whether it was possible, it was better to ask him how he'd done it.
Seeing Ange tilted his head: "Always could. Faller, snatched before, didn't bind, now have it."
Nai Ge Li Si understood. Seeing Ange had always been able to do it — he had snatched from those people in Faller, but hadn't bound it at the time. Now that he had a wraith, he could bind it to the wraith, meaning this piece of the faith-origin force network was permanently snatched away.
"It can work like that? The little wraith is that amazing? It can withstand such tremendous power?" Nai Ge Li Si exclaimed.
Seeing Ange shook his head: "Can't. I snatch it."
"Pfft—" Nai Ge Li Si spat out a mouthful of old blood. So the little wraith was just a relay — in the end, Seeing Ange was the one who got the bargain. But then again, it made sense: the little wraith couldn't bear such tremendous power, and if Seeing Ange didn't snatch it from the wraith, he'd just have to wait for the day it burst.
Passing through a settlement that looked like a slum, Seeing Ange and his party arrived at a mine pit.
Although lacking food and clothing, the Fallen Plane was rich in mineral resources — there were abundant deposits of magical metals here, such as refined gold and mithril. The mine pit before them was a magic crystal vein.
Without needing to enter the mine pit, from afar Seeing Ange spotted a large furry lump squatting among the buildings at the pit's mouth.
A griffin shot up into the sky, taking off from those buildings and flying toward the central mountain range.
"Huh, looks like a griffin station, plus a teleportation array, plus a dimensional beast — this is a transit station?" Nai Ge Li Si exclaimed. "This is trouble."
A transportation hub was naturally heavily guarded — like a world relay station with twelve guardian gods, this place was no exception.
A towering soul tower, over a dozen defensive pillars encircling the entire area, clearly elite personnel coming and going in the buildings on the side — obviously there were people stationed there. Around the perimeter were also cheval-de-frise, fences, and stern guards.
Under these circumstances, how could they rescue the dimensional beast?
Before Seeing Ange could think of a good plan, a surge of teleportation ripples came — the teleportation array flared with light, and when the light faded, a large contingent of personnel had been teleported over.
Among these personnel were holy knights, swordsmen, shield-bearers, clerics, priests, holy attendants, and archers — a balanced mix of classes, clearly a complete combat team.
Besides these combat professions, there was also a group of plainly dressed women in hemp cloth, some carrying sewing frames, others carrying wash tubs — looking like maidservants who did weaving and laundering.
Once these people had formed up, they left the transit station in order. Seeing Seeing Ange by the roadside, and seeing his imposing guards behind him, they weighed the situation and one after another offered him salutes.
Seeing Ange tilted his head. Among that group of plainly dressed women in hemp cloth, he spotted a familiar face. That person, upon seeing him, immediately turned her face away and shrank into the crowd — but it was no use, Seeing Ange had already seen her.
"Shamala? How could she be here?" Nai Ge Li Si thought, astonished.
"Awooo!" The dimensional beast let out a piercing howl, because the savior it had been longing for — right there within its line of sight — had abandoned it and turned to leave.
