Chapter 3
The human is dead, and Ang also discovers that he cannot go back. The light membrane has turned into a magical leather accessory on his wrist, but he does not know how to turn the leather accessory back into a light membrane.
Regarding the fact that he cannot go back, Ang does not have many thoughts. This place is no different from the Palace of Breath, equally silent and desolate. The only difference is that there are other skeletons here.
Not long after the human died, a withered bone skeleton wandered over from a distance. It walked forward unsteadily, its empty eye sockets fixed on the human's corpse, as if there were something on the corpse attracting it.
However, upon approaching a range of about thirty meters, the withered bone skeleton suddenly stopped its footsteps, tilted its head in confusion, and turned toward Ang's direction, its empty eye sockets landing on Ang.
One could see the soul fire in the eye sockets flickering. The withered bone skeleton turned its body and wandered away to another place at a faster speed.
Skeletons have a hierarchy, and Ang's rank is much higher than that of this withered bone skeleton, directly scaring the other party away.
Just like that, Ang stayed in place, scaring away more than a dozen withered bone skeletons and white bone skeletons in one afternoon. Then, as if they had communicated the information and re-divided the spheres of influence, no more low-level skeletons wandered in Ang's direction.
Ang dug a pit and temporarily settled down. The grain from the handcart was buried in another pit he dug.
It must be said that the pit was dug just in time. In the evening, Ang noticed that the skeletons wandering in the distance began to dig pits in unison, burying themselves one after another, and then the wind began to blow.
The wind is the Breath of Rest.
The Breath of Rest is the root that gives birth to all creatures in the land of death. It brings life to the corpses, skeletons, and soul fragments scattered everywhere, gestating them into skeletons, liches, and undead. However, if one shows it the slightest disrespect, it will also ruthlessly destroy everything.
As undead creatures, if exposed to the blowing of the Breath of Rest for a long time, the soul will slowly solidify, dry up, and then perish. Even the most powerful Golden Skeleton Lich King is no exception; the only difference is that they can hold on for a longer time.
Ang lies in the sunken pit, listening to the howling of the Breath of Rest, his soul gradually calming down. The Breath of Rest has the effect of soothing the soul; as long as one is not blown directly, it will not affect the soul.
Lying in the pit, Ang curiously stretches out a finger into the cold wind. The Breath of Rest, like gray fog, scrapes across his finger, forming small cyclones, and his entire palm also becomes as silver-white as metal under the blowing of the wind.
Under the blowing of the wind, a cool breath meanders down from his palm and is transmitted all the way into his soul fire, giving him a feeling of devouring souls and growing stronger, which makes his spirit perk up.
For a skeleton like him, the best way to strengthen himself is to devour the souls of his own kind. However, he is a vegetable-growing skeleton and does not need to strengthen his soul. Moreover, the Palace of Breath is now left with only him, and there are no others of his kind for him to plunder.
However, strengthening oneself is the instinct of every soul. After trying it, Ang has a feeling of being unable to stop, and he cannot help but stretch out both hands.
A night passes, the sky begins to brighten, and the Breath of Rest stops.
Ang feels that his soul has solidified quite a bit. He does not know how much it has grown, but his bones have changed drastically. The pitted areas have become much fewer, some large holes have shrunk, and small holes have been filled directly, as if they had been smeared with putty.
If he lets the wind blow a few more times, it seems he won't need to change his bones, Ang thinks silently.
Climbing out of the pit, Ang discovers that the human corpse from yesterday is gone. Looking up, he finds that it has already been gestated into a zombie, swaying and moving elsewhere.
Ang runs over and drags it back. The little zombie is scared to death, thinking Ang wants to eat it, and struggles while howling.
Unfortunately, even the withered bone and white bone skeletons were scared away by Ang, let alone a little zombie that had just been born. It was soon stripped clean by Ang.
What was stripped off were items belonging to the human: a leather satchel, an empty water bottle, and a long sword. There was a map and a few silver coins in the satchel, but nothing that could prove his identity.
That is to say, why did this human come here? How did he activate the teleportation array? It may forever remain a mystery. If Ang cannot figure out the usage of the magical leather accessory himself, he may never be able to go back.
Ang looks at the pits and bumps on his bones that have become much smoother; it seems... not being able to go back is not necessarily a bad thing.
Because of the Breath of Rest, Ang settles down in this wilderness with peace of mind, bathing in the blowing of the Breath of Rest every day and continuously strengthening his soul.
That newborn little zombie gradually gets familiar with Ang. When Ang first dragged it away, it was scared half to death, thinking it was going to be eaten. Who knew that after being stripped naked, Ang ignored it.
A newborn little zombie that luckily escaped death wanders around in a daze until the Breath of Rest begins to blow.
As a newborn, how could it withstand the sharpness of the Breath of Rest? It instinctively digs at the ground, wanting to dig a pit to hide in, but according to its digging speed, the soul would probably be blown away before the pit was dug.
Fortunately, the pit where Ang is located is not far from it, so he braves the wind to go over and drag it into the pit.
Ang is too powerful compared to the little zombie, and squatting in the same pit is full of oppression, scaring it into howling and trying to crawl out. However, as soon as it sticks its head out, it is blown back by the cold wind, and finally, it hugs its head and shrinks in the corner of the pit, shivering.
Ang ignores it and goes about his own business, reaching out his hand to guide the cool breath. When the sky brightens and the Breath of Rest stops, the little zombie crawls out impatiently.
This time, the little zombie decides to stay far away from this terrifying place, but as soon as it walks thirty meters, it is chased back by another wandering skeleton.
This thirty-meter radius has already become Ang's territory. If the little zombie stays inside, Ang won't care about it, but once it leaves this range, its newborn soul is the most delicate and delicious food, and anyone can bully it.
After being chased by other skeletons several times, the little zombie realizes that other places are even more terrifying than here.
Evening comes, the Breath of Rest blows, and the little zombie, which has no ability to dig its own pit, returns to Ang's pit trembling.
It keeps its neck stiff, aiming at Ang. Seeing that Ang ignores it, it shrinks in a little bit. Still ignored, it shrinks in a little bit more, until it shrinks to the corner where it stayed last night, even its posture the same as yesterday, hugging its head, only no longer shivering.
The next morning, it crawls out impatiently again, but by evening, before the Breath of Rest begins to blow, it crawls into the pit early. It no longer hugs its head but curiously observes Ang, even trying to stretch its palm out of the pit in imitation.
Of course, this reckless move causes its soul to be severely baptized by the cold breath.
