Chapter 33: Death's Scythe

~7 min read 1,321 words

"The body couldn't withstand this power; it burned up," Feilin said with a pained expression.

"Awoo!" The little zombie shook off the lava giant and sprinted over, waving its hands wildly to grab the black ash and stuff it onto the angel skeleton's frame, seemingly trying to prevent it from collapsing.

However, the black ash looked like clumps, but it turned to dust the moment it was touched. In the end, the little zombie was left with nothing but a handful of ash. Anxious, it let out a wail and grabbed the angel skeleton by the shoulders, shaking it violently.

The angel skeleton was shaken so hard it nearly fell apart, so it raised its fist and smashed it into the little zombie's eye socket.

After being shaken by the little zombie, the black ash on the angel skeleton had scattered, revealing a fairly intact skeleton. It turned out that only its skin, flesh, and feathers had crumbled.

"Awoo!" The little zombie clutched its eye and sat down on the ground with a thud, but it wasn't angry; instead, it cried out in surprise. If it could still hit back, didn't that mean it was fine?

Ang glanced at the angel skeleton and discovered that while its skin and flesh had crumbled, its skeleton was still relatively intact, with only the wing bones slightly cracked, and its soul was a bit weak.

He turned his head and aimed the Rain Spell at the lava giant. The continuous stream of water droplets doused the lava giant into a mud-stone giant, which dissolved before it could even reach Ang.

On the other side, Aiske had also exhausted the lava giant until it collapsed. The group headed toward Tulus, a few kilometers away.

Arriving at the spot where Tulus had fallen, they saw that his body had already crumbled, leaving only a rough shape, like a shattered stone statue.

"That can't be right? This Holy Light Flash shouldn't be able to kill a Gao Jie demon. What the hell is going on?" Feilin asked, kicking the remains of Tulus in confusion.

The Holy Light Flash looked fierce, but the one who cast it was only an angel skeleton, and it was borrowing Ang's power. Purely in terms of power, it wasn't enough to shatter a Gao Jie demon.

The mud-like remains shattered, but there seemed to be something hard inside, which Feilin kicked squarely.

He pulled his foot back and found his big toe was fractured and bent to the side. Feilin didn't care; he forcefully snapped it back into place, then switched from kicking to stomping, crushing the mud-like remains to reveal what was underneath.

It was a black rock with a metallic luster on the surface, looking extremely sturdy at first glance.

Feilin frowned: "A Demon Monument? This is troublesome."

"This is a Demon Monument? The Demon Monument that turns its own bloodline into stone, combines with the earth, and is indestructible? The lava demon's rebirth skill?" Aiske exclaimed in surprise.

"Hehehe... good insight. Recognizing it as an Earth Monument is correct, and calling it a Demon Monument isn't wrong either. Either way, it's something you lot can't break, hehehe!!!" Accompanied by a strange cackle, Tulus's phantom appeared on the rock.

Aiske ignored him and went up to pull at it, finding it didn't budge at all: "Can't we pull it out?"

"Can't pull it out. It's connected to the earth. Essentially, this is a type of Earth Barrier. Unless our power is great enough to pry up this entire patch of earth, we can't pull it out," Feilin shook his head.

"Can't we smash it? What about magic?" Aiske picked up a rock to smash it and bombarded it with magic, but the rock remained motionless and unscathed. Digging up the surrounding soil, he discovered it was combined with the rock beneath the ground and couldn't be dug out at all.

"It won't work. Unless I gather all the undead, thousands of them exerting force together, it might be possible to pull it out, but..." At this point, Feilin looked at the sky.

The sky had already darkened. Soon, the Wind of Rest would blow. This was the real reason Tulus dared to use the Demon Monument. If he had a whole night for the opponent to slowly fiddle with it, even if the monument was tightly combined with the earth, it would be hard to withstand the opponent's various methods.

But once the Wind of Rest blew, everyone would have to find a place to hide. After one night, he would have long since recovered and taken the opportunity to be reborn.

It came as expected; the wind suddenly grew stronger.

"Let's go first, and come back to look tomorrow. If he hasn't run away yet, we'll think of a way to pull him out," Feilin said regretfully.

He also knew this was impossible. As long as Tulus wasn't stupid, he would definitely run away the moment the wind stopped tomorrow. But what could they do? They couldn't pull out the monument in a short time, so they had to accept this fact.

Just then, Ang suddenly drew his scythe and slashed at the stone monument.

With a crisp 'clang', sparks flew where the scythe struck. The stone monument was completely undamaged, and a small piece of Ang's scythe blade even chipped off.

"Hahaha, you want to use a broken farm tool to cut through the Earth's Monument? Hahaha, too hilarious! Come on, cut, use more force!" Tulus's phantom clutched his stomach and laughed.

Ang ignored him, retracted his scythe, and slashed at it again with force.

This time, even Feilin couldn't watch anymore and advised: "My lord, it won't work. I've never heard of a Demon Monument being cut open by blades. Let's just go back."

Ang ignored him, because there was a louder voice encouraging him in his soul: "It's just that you haven't heard of it. Your knowledge is limited, that's all. Cut with force, use the power of your soul, hard, harder! The only thing that can shatter the monument is the blade of the soul, Death's Scythe!"

Under Lord Nai Ge's encouragement, Ang's soul fire surged into the scythe. The scythe emitted a blade glow, seemingly growing several times larger, and swept across the stone monument.

There was no collision, no crisp sound, as if either the monument or the scythe had suddenly turned into a phantom, passing through each other. The only change was that a clump of soul fire was hooked onto the scythe blade.

On the stone monument, Tulus's phantom disappeared, replaced by wails coming from within the soul fire.

Feilin and Aiske widened their eyes, saying in disbelief: "My lord, you... you hooked his soul out?"

It seemed so. Ang tilted his head, reached out, and grabbed the soul fire.

Having lost its soul, the indestructible stone monument suddenly lost its luster, turning gray and fading, finally crumbling like weathered rock.

The Wind of Rest was growing stronger. The group hurried back, returning to the sinkhole before the wind became fierce.

Along the way, that clump of soul fire remained restless. Aiske was human, so he could only feel the soul fire emitting some very irritating fluctuations, while Ang, Feilin, and the other undead could hear the voice of the soul fire.

"How could this be? My soul was hooked away by you? How is that possible? The Earth's Monument is shattered? You broke the connection between my bloodline and the earth? How is that possible? How is that possible? It's all fake, fake, fake!!!"

In Ang's soul, Lord Nai Ge sneered disdainfully: "Ignorant. The Golden Skeleton's Death's Scythe and King's Arrival are the two most famous skills. This demon actually hasn't heard of them? Truly died in ignorance. Though, Ang, you were unexpected. To use Death's Scythe on the first try, you really are a freak." ===== CHAPTER 34 =====
