Chapter 518: What Anthony Is Best At

~7 min read 1,395 words

Alanbul was locked up, and until he figured this matter out, there was no way he would be released. What let him breathe a sigh of relief was that Seeing Ange had also released the twelve undead cavalry under his command.

The undead cavalry were also shaped from undead souls — in essence, they were undead. The difference between them and the Black Warriors was that they had not been reinforced through the Reincarnation Altar; all their weapons and equipment were merely soul-bound gear, which made their close-combat ability very poor.

But there was no helping it — not every undead could learn magic. Some personalities simply weren't suited to it; they couldn't settle their minds. That was why Anthony had racked his brain to improve the Reincarnation Altar, in order to create a new type of undead creature — the Black Warrior.

However, Anthony had never had a soul link with the Undead Sovereign back then, so Your Majesty wouldn't reincarnate Black Warriors. The altar in the Main Divine Temple was just an ordinary altar for reincarnating undead creatures.

After dealing with Alanbul, Seeing Ange took Wuga out. Anthony and Lord Nai Ge immediately felt the scene before their eyes change and fell into an illusion; even Feti couldn't help saying:

"So this is the scarecrow Wuga you mentioned? What a powerful illusion — even I could barely tell what was real and what was fake. Right in front of me is a stretch of wasteland, and a purple-gold skull is there propping up its jawbone, muttering, 'Who am I? How did I get here?' — was that me in the past?"

Hearing that even Feti could barely tell real from fake, Lord Nai Ge's mood improved a great deal. If even the Lord of Mourning could barely tell, then it could only mean Wuga's illusion arts were simply too strong.

He added with a tease: "Right, right, it might've been even more miserable than that — walking along picking up bones. 'Ouch, is this my skullcap? Ouch, is this my thigh bone?' Too tragic. Remember how you lost your fingers?"

Feti tilted its head, then suddenly punched Lord Nai Ge in the cheek: "Ouch, is this my kneecap? Ouch, how'd it fly off?"

Lord Nai Ge was beaten up by Feti on the pretext that the illusion made things hard to see, and then everyone started playing around inside the illusion.

Seeing Ange also happily started communicating with Wuga: "Wuga!"

"Wuga wuga!"

"Wuga — ga."

"Wuga wuga."

The two sides happily reached a consensus, and Seeing Ange immediately pulled out straw to patch up its body.

Wuga's body had been split in two, but even when it was whole, Wuga's physical condition wasn't much better. A body of straw and wood tied together — that it had survived until now was already a miracle, thanks to the protective effect of soul energy on physical objects.

But no matter how well it was protected, after so long Wuga's body had become battered and broken. If this kept going, one day its single leg would be worn away entirely.

What was worse, unlike ordinary skeletons, it had no skeleton frame to swap out. For this form of life, even the Undead Sovereign didn't know how to repair it — ordinary straw tied on would rot very quickly.

Wuga needed some special straw.

What Seeing Ange pulled out was straw converted from elements — there was no straw in the world more special than it, especially since it could bear consciousness. The straw owl Little Bu had once created had a consciousness manifested by Little Bu — a consciousness that kept shouting, "Dragon poop stinks!"

"Stride to Immortality"

After tying the straw onto Wuga's body, Seeing Ange took out another stick whittled from divine wood, and one whittled from the World Tree, to replace Wuga's crossbar and vertical pole respectively.

A scarecrow is first made by binding two sticks — one long, one short — into a cross, then tying on straw and topping it with a straw hat, forming a single-legged straw figure with both arms outstretched.

Wuga was modeled on this kind of scarecrow, so naturally it inherited this form — when it moved, it held both arms out and hopped along on one leg.

After the wooden sticks were replaced, the World Tree stick quickly changed — it dried out and turned grey, while the divine wood remained perfectly intact.

Seeing Ange hurriedly whittled another piece of divine wood and swapped out the World Tree stick.

With divine wood as the frame and element-converted straw as the shell, the scarecrow Wuga was completely renewed.

"Wuga wuga!" Wuga was very happy — even its tone had become cheerful.

"Wuga!" Seeing Ange pointed at Lord Nai Ge and Feti, who were still under the illusion's influence and had already tumbled into a wrestling match.

One could see Feti with its arm hooked around Lord Nai Ge's neck, and Lord Nai Ge stomping on Feti's shin bone — the two twisting and grappling. Of course, anyone could tell Feti was just teasing the dragon.

"Wuga —" Wuga withdrew the illusion.

Anthony, who had been standing all along with holy light surging over him and golden light filling both eyes, finally relaxed and asked curiously: "my lord, what did you chat about? Lord Wuga, what an amazing true-to-life illusion." He gave a thumbs-up as he spoke.

Wuga tilted its head — it was probably the first time it had been praised, and it shyly scratched its head.

Feti and Lord Nai Ge, who had been tangled together, slowly let go and looked at each other. Anthony's social skills were way too strong — wasn't the rumor that Wuga never paid attention to people?

Even the Undead Council couldn't communicate with it, and could only warn Anthony not to touch Wuga.

Seeing Ange said: "I help it find the 'Sovereign,' and it listens to me."

That was quite normal. Although he couldn't understand their conversation, Anthony could roughly guess part of it — the condition that would make Wuga obedient was probably only helping it find Your Majesty.

Not only did Wuga want to find Your Majesty, Seeing Ange also had to save the Sovereign. To Anthony, this was already a divine revelation, so he had been pushing this matter forward — he just didn't want the Undead Council to take the lead.

"According to the Goddess of Life's detection, the Star Burst Array shows no signs of accumulating energy for the moment, so Your Majesty is still safe. I suspect it's because of the Harvest Season."

"This Planting Season, both the Empire and the Sorcerer Alliance have invested tremendous effort to win over the populace. The Sorcerer Alliance may not want to cause trouble before the Harvest Season, but we must guard against them acting after the Harvest Season."

"Silver Coin's commercial network has already penetrated deep into the Sorcerer Alliance, but the places where he can operate still stop at the Sorcerer Stairway — he can't reach the Star Burst Array."

"If we can use commercial or political means to break apart the Sorcerer Alliance's power and leave them unable to launch a new Star Burst, that would be the safest approach. But if it fails, we'll need some hard-line measures."

"We need to build the capability to forcibly assault the Star Burst Array if necessary, so we need the Sorcerer Stairway. One vessel definitely won't be enough, so we need the one the Undead Council seized — even though it only has its main pillar, it still has flight capability."

At this point, Anthony stopped, because Seeing Ange had already reached his hand in to plant something — clearly, he hadn't understood a word of what Anthony had said.

But Anthony wasn't saying it for Seeing Ange to hear — he was saying it for Lord Nai Ge. Seeing Ange only counted as a briefing.

Sure enough, Lord Nai Ge took the cue and asked: "Then what do you want?"

"I want Alanbul. Hand him to me, trade him for the Sorcerer Stairway — Gust should be very willing," Anthony said.

Lord Nai Ge hesitated: "But, he already knows our identities."

Anthony looked at it with a strange expression. Lord Nai Ge immediately caught on — it had almost forgotten what Anthony was best at.
