Chapter 574: You Two Empty-Skulled, Shit-Yellow-Boned, Dog-Headed Bastards Who Don

~7 min read 1,292 words

Two golden skeletons leapt onto the spot where the purple-gold skeleton stood, hunching their bodies and emitting soul-shattering shrieks, then sprinting forward with blazing speed.

"Golden skeletons? No, golden skeletons' souls can't possibly be this strong." Everyone noticed the problem; Gustave waved his hand, casting a spell—Spirit Barrier—to shield his undead and himself from soul attacks.

At the same time, he loudly declared his identity: "I am Gustave of the Undead Council; this is the resting place of the King. Who are you?"

Golden skeletons belong to upper-tier undead beings; they possess intelligence, though sometimes they are dim-witted, yet they can communicate fully.

If these golden skeletons were also the King's subjects, upon hearing Gustave's declaration, their normal reaction would be to halt and communicate first—but these golden skeletons did not. They charged forward unchanged, roaring with menace.

One undead summoned two Phantom Patrollers, swiftly crawling toward the golden skeletons.

Phantom Patrollers have little offensive power, but they entangle, hug, and shriek at targets, slowing their speed, delaying their movements, even causing dizziness and disorientation—a highly nauseating spell, and a mandatory opening move for necromancers.

Yet one golden skeleton glared at the Phantom Patrollers, its eye sockets flaring brighter—and the Phantom Patrollers exploded instantly.

Everyone saw that the flame surging from the golden skeletons' eye sockets was blue-purple.

"Soul of Mourning!!! These golden skeletons are about to condense Soul of Mourning—everyone be careful!" someone shouted loudly.

Another shouted: "Withdraw quickly! They might be His Majesty's guards—find out first, don't offend!"

"That makes sense—withdraw fast, run!" A swarm of upper-tier undead rushed back into the passage they had entered.

"Where's Kent? Where are the people from the Necropolis Temple?" Someone suddenly noticed a group was missing from those who had retreated.

Gustave stamped his foot in frustration: "How slow-witted is Kent? He never rushes to eat, never fears falling behind when running away—he deserves to guard tombs his whole life. I'll go check."

In his panic, he blurted out his true thoughts; the Necropolis Temple sounded imposing, but to these immortal souls, wasn't it just tomb-guarding?

Still, Gustave wasn't a leader without responsibility; seeing Kent hadn't escaped, he immediately led others back to search, hoping to rescue him.

In his view, Kent was already weak—how powerful could the others from the Necropolis Temple be? Two golden skeletons on the verge of Soul of Mourning—crushing Kent's group might take only seconds.

But when he turned back, he saw a strange sight: the two golden skeletons were gone, leaving only Kent's group gathered around a bubbling, gurgling swamp.

A swamp? There were only rocks and soil here—where did a swamp come from?

Only when he drew closer did Gustave sense a dense fluctuation of earth elements—faint, yet intensely concentrated, as if hundreds of low-level earth spells had been cast in a short time.

"What's going on? Where are the golden skeletons?" Gustave asked in astonishment.

Kent pointed at the swamp before him, his expression equally dazed—he wondered if he'd hallucinated.

Gustave stared at the swamp and just then saw a golden skull struggling to surface—but halfway out, something grabbed it and dragged it back under.

Ange casually cast a Swamp Spell, maintaining the swamp's existence.

Gustave began to understand: one of Kent's earth mages had cast a Swamp Spell and trapped the golden skeletons.

Impossible? Are these two skeletons really that stupid?

Golden skeletons are not stupid—they possess fierce combat instincts. Besides the Death Scythe and Royal Presence, they have many special abilities.

For instance, acute perception—they sense elemental fluctuations and would never foolishly leap into areas of intense elemental activity; a Swamp Spell rarely traps them.

Unless the Swamp Spell forms instantly, leaving them no time to dodge.

But even then, it's impossible to trap these two—these are golden skeletons on the verge of Soul of Mourning; with death energy gathering at their feet, a single stomp lets them briefly fly—how could they be trapped?

Unless something beneath is pulling them down.

I have to say, Gustave still has rich experience—he guessed right on all counts, he just didn't want to believe it.

After the golden skeletons had struggled in the swamp for a while, several white bone chains wrapped around them, slowly lifting them to the swamp's surface.

The white bone chains coiled in an extremely cunning manner—only skeletons truly know the weaknesses of their own kind; the chains wrapped around the golden skeletons' elbow and knee joints, ensuring their limbs could never reach them no matter how they bent.

At the same time, they lifted the skeletons, suspending them in midair with no purchase—no matter how they struggled, the chains adjusted with them, always keeping them in a supine, back-unsupported state.

No matter how strong they were, the golden skeletons couldn't exert force; when they tried to bend down and grab the bone chains at their knees, they were yanked violently back into the swamp, filling their skulls with mud, then hoisted up again.

Thus, the two golden skeletons remained perpetually in an uncontrolled state.

Gustave couldn't help exclaiming: "These bone chains are used so well—they're as flexible as limbs! I'd think a skeleton was casting the spell."

Anthony and the others exchanged quiet, knowing smiles.

As everyone knows, skeletons have no spellcasters; among corpses, there are liches; among spirit entities, there are undead—but skeletons themselves have no spellcasters. Yet these white bone chains moved as nimbly as a skeleton's own limbs—how miraculous.

If Gustave cast them, the bone chains could at best bind an enemy into a tangled mass—loose? Add more chains.

But no matter how many chains, they could never bind a half-Soul-of-Mourning golden skeleton, because white bone is harder than golden bone—yet Ange's method could, requiring only extraordinary precision of control.

He marveled at Kent's team for having such talent—the bone chains were used brilliantly—but Gustave was now even more curious about these two golden skeletons: they showed signs of breaking through to Soul of Mourning?

This was an extraordinary matter.

"Hello there, can you hear me? I am Gustave, Chairman of the Undead Council. Do you know me?" Gustave called out to the two golden skeletons.

The golden skeletons struggled fiercely, ignoring Gustave.

"Hello, hello there, I'm Gustave—are you His Majesty's guards?"

"Hey? Hey hey hey! Give me some response! Are you listening?" Gustave kept greeting them, but received not the slightest reaction from the two golden skeletons.

"Cough, cough, Chairman, this won't work—how about we try?" Anthony said.

"Oh oh, yes yes, you go ahead, you go ahead." Gustave felt embarrassed—he'd been shouting like an idiot, and now a group of unfamiliar people had witnessed it.

Anthony gave Black Horse a glance: "Go."

Normally Black Horse mocked Anthony, but in front of outsiders, he still gave him face—he stepped forward, puffed out his chest, gathered himself, then suddenly turned and asked: "What level?"

Gustave was stunned: "Undead?" This horse was an undead? He'd thought it was just an extension of the Black Knight.

Not just undead—it was an undead horse. Undead born from non-sentient creatures were extremely rare; Gustave didn't know this, assuming it was just an undead that took a horse's form.

Anthony said: "If you can reach Lightning's level, then Lightning-tier."

Feliduroken and the other souls trembled—Lightning-tier? Are you serious? That's way too much damage—does Black Horse have that level?

Black Horse's eyes blazed, and everyone felt his Xiong Xiong surge—he stared at the two golden skeletons on the swamp and roared: "You two empty-skulled, shit-yellow-boned, dog-headed bastards who don't even chew on shit%#……¥*#%*&!*#&"

The two golden skeletons, who had ignored every greeting, suddenly twisted their heads, their eye sockets locking onto Black Horse, their soul-fire blazing fiercely—blue-purple flames nearly bursting forth, unleashing a powerful soul shock.
