Chapter 990: The Little Sapling and the Little Spirit Are Beating Someone Up

~6 min read 1,105 words

Do planes have consciousness? No.

Can a plane have consciousness? Yes, such as the Eternal Divine Light.

If even the Eternal Divine Light can develop consciousness, why can’t a plane?

No conscious plane has been discovered yet, perhaps simply because we’ve encountered too few planes—maybe one day you’ll visit a barren plane, till the soil and grow vegetables, and the earth will giggle: “That tickles…”

If the World Tree spreads its roots throughout the entire plane, and its branches and leaves cover every surface, wouldn’t the World Tree’s consciousness then equal the plane’s consciousness?

Long ago, the God-creating sorcerer Ladiyade proposed a hypothesis: could the World Tree, which spans an entire plane, awaken as the plane’s own will?

But Ladiyade’s hypothesis quickly stalled, because the World Tree’s evolution path was the Void Tree; so he adjusted his idea—could the plane awaken its own consciousness and become a powerful entity similar to the World Tree?

No wonder he was a God-creating sorcerer—his thoughts grew ever grander; after creating gods, he sought to create something stronger than gods, which he called the Plane Will.

Though Nagelis is often put down by Ang in front of him, to others he’s the Omniscient God of Knowledge; whenever Ladiyade didn’t understand something, he’d ask Nagelis, so Nagelis was fed a flood of possible scenarios for how the Plane Will might arise.

This powerful consciousness now forming is likely the Plane Will Ladiyade hypothesized.

But unfortunately, Ang clearly saw it differently; his scales surged as he roared in fury: “Tulus! You burned my field!”

Nagelis nearly tumbled into the lava below—this wasn’t even a demon, just something that happened to be born in lava; could this really be called Tulus?

Sensing Ang’s anger, the tiny spirit on his finger rubbed its eyes awake, then instantly understood what was happening; it scrunched up its tiny angry face, swelling like an inflated balloon: “Aaaoh—”

The tiny sapling above also rubbed its eyes, stretched out, and swung its true leaves hard: “Ya—ya—ya—”

The two little ones’ aura and power surged wildly.

Though they looked clumsy, the sapling was the World Tree of All Realms, and the spirit was the Light Archon—neither was easy to bully; the spirit’s true body even resided in this world.

A Light Archon who crossed the Infinite Void…

The growing will within the lava was stunned, frozen in place for several seconds, likely wondering how two such terrifying beings had suddenly appeared.

The spirit swelled to its limit, then blew a single “breath” onto the lava.

Where the “breath” landed, the boiling lava rapidly solidified and hardened; the bubbling gas pockets froze mid-explosion, preserving the instant of rupture.

This hardening spread rapidly in all directions, extending deep into the earth.

The will within the lava let out a furious roar.

“Ya—” The sapling leapt from Ang’s head, landing on the hardened lava, then strained: “Strain—grow—strain—grow—” and shot upward wildly.

The sapling’s roots plunged into the solidified lava; each time they sank deeper, its trunk grew taller, each time they sank deeper, its trunk grew thicker; the area of solidified lava expanded, and the sapling grew ever more robust.

The lava’s will was no longer angry—it was terrified, emitting panicked, chaotic roars; the temperature of the entire space suddenly rose several degrees, and the previously expanding zone of solidification began to shrink.

The spirit strained hard: “Aaoh—aaoh—”

Boom! Boom! Boom! Violent energy clashed violently deep within the lava; the unhardened lava throughout the stratum was crushed by immense pressure, and massive lava columns erupted skyward.

The sapling seized the chance to root deeper; wherever its roots extended, nutrients were absorbed and transformed into growth material—but clearly this wasn’t the World Tree of All Realms’s level; soon, steam began rising from the sapling’s entire body.

Its bark thickened continuously, crystallized; scorching lava was drawn up along the bark, then oozed out like resin, forming layer upon layer of hard, glossy shells—pitch-black and gleaming, like the purest obsidian.

Lava continued to be drawn upward, gradually coating the entire trunk; beneath the thick bark, dark red lava flowed, turning the sapling into a colossal lava tree.

Finally, the dark red current converged at the treetop; bare branches sprouted leaves like flames, blazing red like autumn maple leaves.

Between the leaves, clusters of “fruits” hung heavy on the branches, rapidly swelling… though they couldn’t be called ripe, since no pollination occurred; they merely swelled, not true fruits.

These things slowly swelled to the size of fists, glowing with fire element, hanging from the branches like fruit.

The sapling’s actions continuously drained the energy of the entire lava field; heat dispersed into the air, and the zone of solidification continued expanding.

Finally, a lava giant was forced to emerge from the lava, lunging forward; a wave of molten rock surged toward the hardened ground, crashing toward the sapling.

The spirit inhaled, inhaled, inhaled; with each breath, immense power was delivered from the distant Heavenly Fortress, inflating it into a plump white dumpling, which swung its fist and smashed into the lava wave.

Splat! The wave was flattened onto the ground; by the time the lava giant struggled to rise, a whip of twisted roots snapped up from the ground and lashed across its head.

The headless lava giant finally stood steady—only for a fat, bloated ghost to fly in and slam it back onto the ground.

“Feels like the Plane Will is being beaten senseless by the sapling and the spirit together?” Nagelis’s dragon eyes nearly popped out.

Anthony nodded: “Definitely beaten—no chance to fight back. Could you be wrong? Maybe it’s not the Plane Will, just another Tulus.”

Nagelis rolled his eyes: “Does a Tulus require a World Tree of All Realms and a Light Archon to beat it?”

“True enough—these two little things are that fierce?” Anthony still remembered the spirit as the tiny thing back in Heaven, huddled near holy light to warm itself.

As for the sapling, he’d seen its true form—but he couldn’t possibly connect that with the little sprout chirping on Ang’s head.

Ang crouched, maintaining his Dragon God form for a long while, realizing he wasn’t needed—his “Tulus” had been stolen by these two little things.

A sense of melancholy washed over him, like watching his crops grow beyond his care; Ang turned his gaze to Samus, the Infinite Guardian, who was now utterly stunned—this Plane Will, awakened by so many sacrifices, was being beaten up? Was there any justice left? That was the Plane Will!

Amid his shock, Samus suddenly felt a gaze—he looked up and met Ang’s eyes; he forced a grotesque smile, then turned and ran.
