Chapter 73: My Grandmother's Entire Family Died Out Long Ago
Bai Wei opened her computer and searched everywhere online for Explosives.
Her phone rang.
She kept her eyes on the computer while holding the phone to her ear.
"Hello..."
"Weiwei, it's Grandma!" A disgusting voice suddenly rang out from the receiver.
Bai Wei stiffened, her brows knitting together instinctively.
"You haven't come to see Grandma in a long time; how have you been lately?"
In the receiver, Grandma's voice was gentler than ever, even carrying a hint of a smile.
Bai Wei steadied herself and spoke coldly.
"Sorry, I don't know you. You must have the wrong number. I don't have a grandmother, and even if I did, my grandmother's entire family died out long ago!"
Grandma grew anxious, "You child..."
Beep...
Bai Wei hung up the phone cleanly and decisively!
How ridiculous!
She had long since severed ties with the Bai Family, and the other party had even made such a scene that everyone for miles around knew about it.
Now they were shamelessly running over to call her.
Are they crazy?
"I am looking up, above the moon, how many dreams are there..."
No sooner had she put the phone down than it rang again.
Bai Wei couldn't help but pick up the phone, ready to start scolding.
Suddenly, the voice of Village Chief Yang came through the receiver.
"Miss Bai Wei, the batch of weapons you wanted is already over thirty thousand pieces finished at the factory. Do you want me to send a batch over now, or send them all together once they're done?"
Bai Wei hurriedly swallowed the scolding that was on the tip of her tongue.
Her mood eased, and she let out a breath.
"Village Chief Yang, then please, send the weapons over first!"
Compared to the ancients, her use of factory mass production for cold weapons was just fast!
The Daye Army was going to attack Heyuan tomorrow; she would send this batch of weapons to Xiao Moting to replenish his equipment.
It was just a pity that the country had regulations against producing and purchasing firearms.
Otherwise, how could Wanyan Yi be so arrogant?
Village Chief Yang had people load the trucks to bring the weapons over in the afternoon.
Just as she was about to hang up, a flash of inspiration suddenly struck Bai Wei's mind!
Yangjiatun mined iron ore.
To mine, one had to use Explosives to blast the mountain!
"Village Chief Yang, do you have any Explosives for blasting mines there?"
"Huh?"
Village Chief Yang was bewildered.
Bai Wei spoke hurriedly, "Village Chief Yang, I have an urgent need for a batch of Explosives right now. A friend needs them to blast a mountain; I absolutely will not do anything illegal. If you have any Explosives there, could you sell me some? I'll buy them at a high price."
"This... this..." Village Chief Yang stammered, "I do have Explosives, but..."
Bai Wei was instantly excited!
There really were Explosives!
Village Chief Yang gave a bitter smile, "Miss Bai Wei, it's not that I don't want to agree, but I can't just give you Explosives. The national regulations..."
"Village Chief Yang, I really have an urgent need. I can even write you a guarantee letter, promising they are only for blasting a mountain."
Bai Wei pleaded bitterly.
After some pestering, Village Chief Yang was finally worn down and relented.
"Fine, our village's mine was saved by you."
"But you must guarantee to me that the Explosives won't be used anywhere else..."
"I guarantee it!"
Without another word, Bai Wei was so excited she didn't even have time to eat. She went out, picked a peach from a tree, wiped it twice on her clothes, and hopped onto her Recreational Vehicle while gnawing on the peach, anxious to get to Yangjiatun.
She had Chen Ming open the Farm gate and was just about to drive off.
Suddenly, a group of people swarmed up and blocked her.
Bai Wei looked up, and a wave of visceral disgust welled up in her heart.
"What are you all doing here? Move!"
The group of people in front of her were all from the Bai Family.
Grandma stood at the very front, her face full of smiles.
"Xiao Wei, the family made a table of good food today; Grandma is here to take you home for a meal."
"That's right, that's right." The Aunt was even more radiant, holding up a chicken in her hand, "Grandma even specifically caught a big rooster, keeping it just for you to eat."
Bai Wei scanned the crowd before her, expressionless.
"Who are you people? Did you go to the wrong door? I'm in Xiaohe Village, where would I have a home, let alone a grandmother?"
The Aunt chided, "Are you still angry? We're all one family, don't be so distant. Come with your aunt, let's go back and stew some chicken soup for you."
As she spoke, she reached out to pull her.
Bai Wei was not polite at all and slapped the Aunt's hand away.
"Don't touch me! I have nothing to do with you people anymore!"
Grandma's face flashed with anger, but she immediately squeezed out a fake smile.
"Last time I said I wanted to sever ties with you, that was just Grandma speaking too quickly. Surely you aren't still holding a grudge against Grandma? Hurry up and come home to eat."
The Uncle gave a dry cough and said in a deep voice.
"Bai Wei, Grandma coming to pick you up in person is already giving you a massive amount of face."
"Listen to Grandma, get in the car and go back to the village to eat. Don't let the villagers see you, or they'll say our Bai Family has no manners."
Bai Wei's eyes were cold as she scanned the group of people before her.
Grandma was looking over the Farm with delight, unable to hide the excitement in her eyes.
The Aunt was staring straight at her Recreational Vehicle, as if this vehicle had already become her own property...
As for the Uncle and his son, the two of them were grinning from ear to ear, with the words "preying on the vulnerable" practically written on their faces...
This bunch of people suddenly came to find her and were being especially enthusiastic about dragging her back to eat; could she not know what kind of scheme they were cooking up?
Back when she was poor, the Bai Family had swept her out the door.
Now, they probably knew she had struck it rich and regretted severing ties with her.
Sure enough, the cousin Bai Cai could no longer hold back, "Xiao Wei, I heard you sold antiques to foreigners and made a hundred million?"
Bai Wei was in a hurry to leave and retorted directly.
"This has nothing to do with you, move aside!"
"The whole village is talking about it." The Aunt immediately reached out a hand to block her from leaving, "Everyone says you are also going to donate money to the township to build a school, and that you are going to invest over a hundred million to build a Vegetable Base. Is that true?"
Grandma was all smiles.
"Our Bai Family has finally produced a promising descendant; the Bai Family is finally going to prosper!"
The Uncle said happily, "Mom, you've lived in that house for over ten years, haven't you always wanted to move? When the time comes, have Bai Wei build you a big villa, five stories high."
"How can just a villa be enough?" the Aunt interrupted, "Have you ever seen a rich person live in the countryside? Make Xiao Wei buy us a house in the city, a duplex with a garden, fully furnished."
"We also need to buy cars." Bai Cai also hurriedly chimed in, "I've long wanted a Mercedes-Benz to drive around and show off! I also want to buy a Recreational Vehicle to travel every day, and buy Dad a BMW!"
The Aunt wouldn't have it, "You ungrateful wretch, you only remember your dad, what about me? I want a car too, a red Maserati. I see all the wealthy socialites in the city driving that brand."
The few of them chattered away, excitedly discussing their life after getting rich.
Bai Wei felt a wave of annoyance; she didn't want to listen to their discussion at all.
Over in Daliang, they were still waiting for her to deliver the Explosives.
"Chen Ming, help me drive these beggars away!"
Chen Ming immediately walked over.
Grandma's expression changed, "Xiao Wei, I am your grandmother, you are driving me away?"
"If you want to discuss buying houses and cars, please go somewhere else." Bai Wei still had to rush to Yangjiatun and retorted without any politeness, "Don't hinder me from leaving; I don't know you people."
The Uncle was furious, "You unfilial girl, when others get rich, the whole clan gets to enjoy it. You get rich and forget your roots!"
"Why say so much to her?" Bai Cai looked impatient and walked forward aggressively, "Just drag her home first, then we can talk about the rest."
Anyway, Bai Wei was just a young woman with no one in the village to back her up.
Once dragged home, she would be at their mercy to do with as they pleased.
