Chapter 11: Complicated Family
Su Yu seized the chance and bolted out.
The doctors had no guard against the previously well‑behaved Su Yu. Moreover, to make it convenient for Su Xi to come in and ask about progress, the doors were left open.
Su Yu slipped out so smoothly, sprinted to the sofa, and in a few quick moves tucked herself into Ji Yan's arms.
Ji Yan jumped in surprise at Su Yu.
"Didn't you have blood drawn? Is the wound okay?"
A female Doctor stepped out and apologized to Su Xi, "Sorry, we didn't watch over her properly!"
Su Yu looked at Su Xi seriously, "It's all my fault! I deceived them! I ran out on my own!"
"One person takes responsibility for their own actions; I won't let anyone else take the blame for me! If you want to scold, scold me!"
"It's fine, you all attend to other matters first."
"Alright!"
After the Doctor left, Su Xi watched Su Yu, still clinging to Ji Yan's embrace, refusing to let go.
"Alright, if your hand is okay, just sit here and listen."
Su Yu obediently extended her hand. The wound from the blood draw was fine.
Ji Yan placed her beside herself and sat down.
Yang Zhichun watched Su Yu's series of actions, her expression unchanged, and continued her previous line of questioning.
"Did Su Yi tell you about his family situation?"
"No, when he was with me, he only mentioned that his family was complicated; he might strike out on his own later and won't be with his family."
Ji Yan had thought Su Yi was a wealthy family's illegitimate child, and fearing to hurt his feelings, she didn't press further.
"My dad was right about this; the family is truly complicated! My dad's parents are both dead, leaving only a fake mother and a fake sister. My older brother treats the company as home year‑round. Grandma doesn't get along with the fake mother and lives alone. It's normal that dad doesn't want to live at home."
Ji Yan:??? Is it really that complicated?
Su Xi:!!!
Yang Zhichun:!!!
Yang Zhichun considered herself someone who had weathered great storms, yet she almost couldn't steady her bracelet. What does "fake mother, fake sister" mean?
Su Xi was even more shocked. Su Yi's mother is his mother; his mother is still alive, and he indeed has a sister!
His mind was a jumble. Su Yu's heartfelt words were hard for him to accept!
Yang Zhichun and Su Xi were both bewildered by the news. They recalled their own memories, trying to find traces of a daughter‑in‑law or mother being replaced.
Su Xi's eyes occasionally flicked toward Su Yu; he wanted to tell her directly that he could hear her thoughts and ask her now what the fake mother and fake sister really were, but reason held him back.
Su Yu is still young and has no real bond with them. Suddenly exposing this matter would surely frighten her. If his brother truly never wakes up, Su Yu would be his brother's only child, and he cannot harm his brother's child.
Yang Zhichun also held back, suppressing the urge to ask Su Yu directly.
The two's silence made Ji Yan a bit uneasy.
"May I ask where Su Yi is? What happened to him?"
Ji Yan clutched her hem tightly. Before Su Yu arrived, she had already told everything about herself and Su Yi. Yet Su Yi's older brother and grandmother had no intention of letting her see Su Yi. She had a bad feeling.
Yang Zhichun stood up, "Come with me!"
Su Xi stepped forward, supporting the grandmother, and walked with her toward the ground‑floor room that faced the garden.
Beep!
Beep!
Beep!
Ji Yan stared at the person whose body was riddled with tubes, unable to believe that the one on the bed was the lively Su Yi.
Ji Yan staggered forward and saw a familiar yet pallid face.
Thud!
Ji Yan fell to her knees, tears streaming like a flood, soon soaking her hem. She clutched the daughter beside her, her body trembling uncontrollably.
"What on earth happened to him?!"
Four years ago, on the day Su Yi left, he excitedly told her that when he returned, he would bring her to meet his family and complete the ceremony she wanted.
His family would surely like her!
But now, having seen his family, he lay here motionless.
Su Yu silently took out a tissue for her mother to wipe her tears.
"I want Mom not to cry; at least Dad is still alive. But Dad has been unconscious for almost four years now—sigh! Everyone knows how hard that is!"
Yang Zhichun sighed and brushed the tears from the corner of her eye.
Su Xi recounted what had happened back then.
"He came to the airport to pick us up, saying he had a surprise for us."
Su Xi guessed the surprise was probably that he had married Ji Yan.
"We were in a car accident on the way home. The driver was Xiao Yi; his driving skill was excellent, he wasn't injured, I was saved by the airbag that deployed in time, and Grandma was frightened."
But it was a chain‑reaction crash; we were hit again shortly after. The vehicle rolled over; I sustained minor injuries, and Grandma's leg was trapped.
We quickly got out of the car and together pulled Grandma out. However, the overturned car exploded…
Su Xi still remembers the helplessness of that moment. They scrambled outward, and in the end, Su Yi threw himself over him and Grandma, shielding the two of them.
But Su Yi bore most of the impact, his brain was injured and he fell into a coma. At that time, rumors online claimed all three of them had died in the explosion.
The company's stock wavered, shareholders grew restless, and internal morale was shaky. Su Xi had to steady the company first. By the time he could investigate the crash, all traces had been erased. Every inquiry yielded "accident".
Su Xi didn't believe it! Yet he couldn't find any proof!
Later, while cleaning up the company's mess, he busied himself finding a renowned Doctor to treat his brother, hoping to wake him, unaware that his brother had secretly married Ji Yan and oblivious to Su Yu's existence.
"All these years, his injuries have healed. Doctors from home and abroad have come; they say the patient simply doesn't want to wake up."
Su Xi didn't understand at the time; he even thought those people were quacks. He and his grandmother were there, so why was Su Yi unwilling to wake up? He kept talking to Su Yi, but there was no response at all.
But from Su Yu's inner voice, Su Xi had another idea. Could it be that this damn plot won't let his younger brother wake up?
【Ah, I know this. It's that fake grandma who bribed someone taking care of my dad; while my uncle was busy with the company, that person kept whispering in my dad's ear, saying something like only he survived in the Su Family. As for what happens later, the plot doesn't seem to have been written. System, check if there's anything related later.】
Those present restrained their gaze, not letting themselves look expectantly at Su Yu.
【Host, not found. This is also worth mentioning, you have a great memory!】
【Ah, no! Well, how am I supposed to tell Mom, Uncle, and Great-grandma that my foolish dad thinks they're already dead and that what he's hearing now is a recording?】
Su Yu sighed. Being young is a problem like this! When she's older she can still fool the family by saying she used other connections to find out.
