Chapter 124: 123 Seventh Floor

~7 min read 1,397 words

On the sixth floor, within the unfinished new Mogu Forest.

Little Green stood rooted in the ground, its roots churning back and forth through the soil, while another tree demon nearby, on a patch of already-turned earth, planted tender shoots.

The loose soil possessed excellent aeration and permeability, beneficial for root respiration and growth.

Compared to the slow-growing trees, mushrooms were much faster.

The mycelial mats had long been laid across the planned territory; although the mushroom trees had not yet fully matured, they had already sprouted, and in about half a month, they would reach a preliminary scale.

At the same time, spores were scattered onto these tender shoots; they would grow alongside the shoots and prove beneficial.

The mana harvested from the mushrooms growing on these tender shoots would not be taken by Lin Jun, but would instead be entirely provided to the shoots to help them grow rapidly.

Once these tender shoots grew into demon wood and further developed consciousness to become tree demons, these newborn tree demons would naturally belong to the Mogu Sect.

To help them grow better, Lin Jun also experimented by crafting some Pooji tools.

In the center of the planted tender shoots stood one Pooji fixed to the ground, constantly expanding and contracting.

Every time it contracted, water would spray from countless tiny holes on the Pooji's cap in all directions, just like a watering can.

Beneath it connected a special mycelial tube; though called a tube, it was actually an improved mycelial tentacle.

Complex modifications, such as adding wings, were impossible for the Pooji's dull brain to handle without skills, but simpler ones were another matter, like this tube requiring only suction.

The tube connected directly to the groundwater, with even another Pooji serving as a relay in between.

Simply put, Lin Jun used two Poojis to form a sprinkler system; so far, the results looked quite good.

Even some tree demons who had finished their work would come over for a shower; the experience of water striking directly onto their bark was greatly enjoyed by the tree demons.

With his parole ending, Norris, who was about to return to the Shi Laimu Room, also spotted this novel contraption.

Imitating the tree demons, he approached the sprinkler mushroom to let water droplets strike his white scales.

However, after enjoying it for only a moment, he suddenly remembered something, hurriedly stepped out of the spraying range, and opened the yellow-covered book in his hand.

"Huang Pishu, did getting wet hurt you?"

【Do you think I'm some scrap worth ten copper coins on the roadside?】

【How could I possibly fear water?】

【Also, how are you speaking? Call me Senior; I arrived at the Mogu Garden before you.】

Wasn't he just constantly imprisoned before...

Although Norris thought this, he did not say it aloud, but instead followed the yellow-covered book's request and addressed it as Senior.

Originally, Norris had intended to avoid any connection with the yellow-covered book; the things revealed during the Boss's exchanges with the yellow-covered book were too terrifying, and in front of it, he was little better than a dish of food.

But the Holy Scripture, as a demonic book whose main profession was to seduce hearts, even if it could not use charm, would be utterly useless if it couldn't handle a seventeen-year-old child.

It told Norris a story about a hero saving a princess.

On a certain day of a certain month of a certain year, a princess of a small kingdom was abducted by a giant dragon; the hero accepted the mission to rescue her.

Along the way, the hero made companions, explored ruins, and defeated monsters; yet when he finally reached the giant dragon's lair, he discovered the princess had been digested until not even a crumb remained. Flushed with shame and anger, the hero could only slay the dragon to avenge the princess.

After the hero returned in tears, having failed his mission, he discovered that the small kingdom had actually been annihilated during his absence; no one remained to know the dark history of his failure to save the princess. Truly, a cause for celebration.

Relying on his Common Language skill at Lv7 Max, Lin Jun quietly observed the gist of it; it was a story with quite a twisted sense of humor, yet Norris was utterly captivated.

Norris had only a gambler father who died early; after the age of fourteen, he was even more trapped in a vortex of debt, with hardly any opportunity to hear stories, so he was immediately attracted by the demonic tale told by the Holy Scripture.

After the Holy Scripture promised to tell him a story every three days, Norris readily agreed to keep it by his side...

Lin Jun's mycelial mats were now spreading from the sixth floor toward the seventh floor.

According to the yellow-covered book, if no rifts were discovered on the seventh floor, it would indicate that the location on the sixth floor was the starting point, meaning the problem was not significant.

But if rifts were also present on the seventh floor, the situation might be quite serious.

However, the possibility was low; if the rift problem were already severe, adventurers should have noticed it long ago.

Lin Jun asked Norris; at least before Norris came down, he had heard no related rumors.

The seventh floor was a very special layer; if Lin Jun were to describe its terrain, it would be a sewer.

A massive sewer.

On both sides of the waterways, which were over ten meters wide, lay dirt roads.

The waterways crisscrossed; the water surface was only seven or eight meters from the dome. Compared to the height differences of dozens of meters often found on the fifth and sixth floors, the space seemed much smaller, and there were even few monsters within this area.

But this was merely an illusion; what was truly vast on the seventh floor was the underwater space; the portion above the water surface probably accounted for less than one-tenth, and the monsters on this layer were all aquatic creatures.

Giant shrimp, oysters, turtles, strange-headed fish, and everything else existed; who knew why there were so many things that looked like seafood.

Lin Jun liked this floor very much because the only creatures active on the shore on the seventh floor were some amphibious monsters and a type of insect living on the dome—no Slimes!

Laying down the mycelial mats was effortless; those few monsters that came ashore would at most eat some mushrooms and would not deliberately destroy the mats.

Lin Jun's mycelial mats spread smoothly while consuming Firefly Grass, a world of difference compared to the sixth floor.

However, there were still a few minor problems.

Since most of the seventh floor's space was underwater, if a spatial rift existed, the probability of it appearing underwater was very high.

Perhaps this dungeon was even leaking water into other dungeons.

Since exploration underwater was required, a batch of specialized Poojis was naturally indispensable.

But in Lin Jun's skill library, the levels of skills related to underwater activities were quite low; the effects of these low-level skills were limited and completely unable to support Poojis in completing underwater exploration missions.

The highest was 【Underwater Adaptation Lv4】, which could only allow Poojis to stay underwater a bit longer, offering no help for combat or escape.

Lin Jun had already tried deploying several Poojis down; judging by the results, they were simply fed to the fish; not long after falling, their damaged caps floated back up.

There was no help for it; Lin Jun had previously had no opportunity to encounter these aquatic monsters; even those one or two-level underwater skills were brought back by Seeing Xiao Hei while he was out playing.

To complete the exploration now, these skills still needed to be leveled up first.

Not too high; raising them to around Lv4 would suffice, a level that was easy to achieve quickly and still useful.

However, the problem was that aquatic monsters were not like land monsters, which Lin Jun could charge at with a group of Poojis and slay.

Aquatic monsters first had to be brought ashore, or at least lured to the water surface, before there was a chance to kill them.

Fortunately, Lin Jun was familiar with this too; it was just fishing!
