Chapter 30: 30 No Attacks Allowed
Two raiders charged from outside the cave, giving Vera and the others no time to react.
Grongba laughed and used Charge, his target clearly the mage-equipped Fion.
Yet Fion, facing the ambush, still hadn't figured out why his detection spells failed to spot the opponents beforehand.
Vera roared, drew his scimitar, and slid toward Fion as if on ice, intercepting the dwarf before him.
The broad-bladed axe and the scimitar clashed, sending countless sparks flying.
The moment they engaged, Vera was at a disadvantage; the axe blade pressed right against his collarbone.
Vera braced the blade with both hands, preventing the axe from splitting him in two.
"Not bad, kid. That weapon will surely fetch a good price."
So close, Vera could smell the stench of alcohol on the dwarf's breath.
"Fion!"
Called by name, Fion suddenly snapped out of his panic, immediately casting several buff spells on Vera.
【Strength Amplification】
【Agility Amplification】
【Stamina Activation】
Buffed, Vera stepped back, spun a flourish with his blade, and forced the dwarf to retreat several paces.
Having gained no advantage, the dwarf immediately cursed his partner slacking off behind him:
"Half-Ear, what the hell are you watching? Take out that brat with the staff!"
"What's the rush? Doesn't drawing a crossbow take time?"
Nasa approached from behind holding a crossbow, but instead of firing, he pulled a small pouch from his chest and threw it at Fion.
Vera watched the pouch fly, but waited in vain for Feiling to intercept it with an arrow.
"Feiling?"
In the end, he could only step forward and stab it with his blade, causing a cloud of pale blue powder to explode.
Vera hurriedly covered his nose and retreated with Fion, then looked at Feiling, only to find Feiling lying on the ground, unable to rise.
"."
Nasa smiled, aimed his crossbow at them, and pulled the trigger; he loved watching prey panic.
Fion quickly cast a spell, but the mana shield only formed a prototype before dissipating in midair.
"That's why you're a rookie; you can't even recognize the powder of the Magic-Suppressing Flower."
"Despicable!"
In desperation, Vera stepped forward to shield Fion, blocking the crossbow bolt with his blade, though the impact numbed both his hands.
This was exactly what Grongba had been waiting for!
His arm muscles swelled, and hot breath puffed from his nose.
The dwarf swung his broad-bladed axe at Vera's waist.
Vera could only barely press his scimitar against his body before being smashed by the axe and sent flying out of the cave.
Though not dead, he was left with only a thread of life.
After Vera fell, Fion, a mage unable to cast any spells, was knocked unconscious in two blows.
The entire battle had been under the control of the two raiders.
But this was no fault of Vera and the others; their only combat experience was against monsters, and their items were the same.
Whereas the raiders' tactics, items, and skills were all designed specifically for fighting humans.
Add to that the advantage of calculating against the unprepared and their level superiority, plus the fact they didn't target seasoned veterans, and they rarely failed.
Grongba raised his axe, ready to deal with them one by one, but Nasa stopped him.
The dwarf impatiently asked, "What's wrong? Seeing they're twins, do you want to play?"
Nasa heard this and wore a look of disgust: "What are you thinking? When have I ever bothered with a mongrel without elven blood?"
Grongba, however, dismissed this inexplicable sense of superiority; after all, Nasa himself was a mixed-blood bastard.
Of course, he had never said this in front of Nasa; as a partner, Nasa's endless array of gadgets was quite useful.
"Then what do you want to do?"
"Tie them up. Once they wake up, we'll play the 'who dies and who lives' game."
This was a game Nasa had devised himself; simply put, it forced the captured group to decide internally who would die and who would live.
Of course, in the end, they would all be killed; Nasa just wanted to enjoy the spectacle of teammates betraying each other to survive.
Grongba rolled his eyes; he had no such peculiar fetish.
Although he loved alcohol, gambling, and killing, compared to his perverted partner, he considered himself a good dwarf.
Still, he didn't care about Nasa's hobbies; if he wanted to play, let him play.
He was now more interested in the giant walking mushroom in the cave; he had just seen it pull a shield out of its own body.
Could it be filled with good stuff inside?
————
Pain!
So much pain!
Broken ribs pierced his flesh, the bone of his left arm protruded through the skin, and blood mixed with internal organs flowed from his mouth.
Vera was woken entirely by the pain.
He tried to move but couldn't, realizing he was tied to a tree.
On the other two trees in front of him, his two childhood friends were tied up, still unconscious.
"Feiling... Fei... Yin..."
Amidst Vera's continuous, weak calls, the two women slowly regained consciousness.
The moment they woke, they saw Vera on her deathbed.
"Vera, your injuries are so severe! Damn this rope..."
Feiling struggled to break free from the bindings, but could not escape at all.
She could only look at her younger sister.
"Fei Yin, use magic!"
"I... I can't use it... sob... I can't use it..."
Fei Yin had never seen Vera so severely injured, and with her own magic failing her, she cried out in panic.
"Want to leave? I can let you go~"
A nightmare-like voice came from behind the tree; Nasar, playing with a small knife in his hand, walked with a smile to the middle of the three.
"What do you want?"
"What do I want?" Nasar pressed the small knife against Feiling's cheek, lightly slicing a small cut, "One here is your sister, the other is your little man. Choose one."
"Choose what?"
"Choose who dies!"
As Nasar spoke, his mouth split open; his tongue constantly licked his teeth, and his tone became uncontrollably excited.
"Choose one to die, and I will let you and the other go. How about that?"
Feiling suddenly stretched her neck and bit at his hand, but Nasar dodged in time.
"Go die, you motherfucker! You scum! Beast! Bastard who will sooner or later be bitten to death by wild dogs!"
"Tsk."
A slap landed on Feiling's face; the force was so great it knocked out a broken tooth.
Feiling was knocked unconscious directly; on the other side, Fei Yin cried even harder upon seeing this.
"Boring little bastard."
Having said that, he was about to ask the other twin if she would choose, when he heard Vera's mosquito-like voice.
"Kill..."
Nasar's eyes instantly lit up; he hurriedly leaned forward:
"Yes, yes, who do you say to kill? Don't worry, if you choose, I will feed you a Life Potion, guaranteeing you won't die."
Fearing Vera wouldn't believe him, he actually pulled a bottle of Life Potion from his pocket.
"Kill... me... let... them... go..."
"You, sigh—"
Nasar straightened his waist, swept a cold gaze over the three, and finally raised the small knife.
"Truly boring. You like to sacrifice, do you? Then let you watch them both die first!"
At the same time, inside the cave.
Grongorba tried prying, pulling, tugging, and various other methods, but could not open the Fat Pooji's pocket, which possessed the Tenacity skill.
The dwarf finally lost patience and decided to do something direct.
Standing before the Fat Pooji, he raised his axe over his head.
【Heavy Chop LV6】
Amidst a thunderous roar that shook heaven and earth, Grongorba turned into a shower of raindrops, drenching Nasar, who lay on the ground.
Nasar:???
Lin Jun:???
