Chapter 72: 72 Dylan, You Have Been Enhanced

~7 min read 1,312 words

One eye opened, and he was once again inside the familiar mushroom house.

As Dylan rose, the mycelium strands connecting his back to the mycelial mat detached one by one.

He casually picked up a woolen blanket nearby, gently wiped the sticky residue from his back clean, and only then put on his clothes.

The minor inconveniences of fungal-person life were something he had now completely adapted to.

"Finally awake? How do you feel?" the Boss's voice suddenly rang out within his consciousness.

Right, this wasn't ordinary sleep.

Earlier, the Boss had mentioned something about increasing his survival rate, and it seemed he had added another skill to himself.

He felt there wasn't much difference between himself and a Pujiji anymore...

Dylan stood beside the mushroom house, sensing the changes after waking up.

【Acceleration LV6】

He drew the longsword from his waist and tried swinging it.

Downward slash! Thrust! Spinning cut!

Each was a separate motion, yet due to the Acceleration, they felt as smooth and fluid as flowing clouds and water!

"This feeling is truly amazing!"

"No, you can't test it like that."

"Then how should I..."

Following the Boss's words, four Poojis walked out from the mushroom forest.

Familiar scales, familiar four bladed tentacles—these were mass-produced melee Poojis; the last two had forced Dylan to run everywhere.

Watching the four Poojis approach together, Dylan very willingly took two steps back.

"Boss... maybe just two of them would be enough?"

"If you dare focus only on running, I'll have Seeing Xiao Hei fight you."

Gulu—

What a cruel remark!

The Boss must be joking, right?

Dylan glanced at Seeing Xiao Hei in the distance, who was gnawing on a Pujiji while watching the show, and tried to recall the power of her claws...

Courage suddenly surged from within his body!

"Just four measly Poojis!"

Watching Dylan charge forward, fighting evenly with the four melee Poojis, not falling behind for a moment.

Indeed, 【Acceleration】 is so useful!

With no disadvantage in speed, Dylan relied on more experienced footwork to prevent the four Poojis from surrounding him.

He even found an opportunity to strike the body of one Pujiji first, without having taken any damage himself.

Although, due to insufficient attack power, he merely sliced through the scales, causing only minor damage.

But that was enough.

Lin Jun gave him 【Acceleration】 originally for self-preservation; if you can't win, hide, just run.

"That's enough."

Since Dylan couldn't inflict fatal damage on the Poojis, as time passed, he gradually grew exhausted and fell into a disadvantage.

With the effect of 【Acceleration】 fully tested, Lin Jun simply called a halt and ordered the Poojis to retreat.

Dylan sat down right where he was, looking at his own hands with slight excitement.

So powerful!

Now, if he met those three information brokers again, he could defeat them head-on without needing a sneak attack.

This feeling of a sudden, dramatic leap in strength was something he had never experienced in his entire life!

It was utterly captivating.

Of course, Dylan wasn't blinded by power; he still remembered his purpose.

"Boss, when do we set off?"

"Don't rush. Lie back down first; I'll add another ability for you."

"Again?" Dylan was somewhat worried about wasting too much time.

"A journey of nearly two months; it doesn't matter if we lose a day or two." Lin Jun said impatiently.

To add skills for Dylan, the entire mushroom garden had not produced any new Poojis for these two days.

Now he's being picky!

Dylan scratched his head: "Boss, what ability are you adding?"

"Mana Storage."

—

The Night Owl stood on the carriage roof, gazing ahead.

A battle was occurring over there.

A sound of fabric rubbing suddenly came from the carriage cover; Ivan had also been woken up and immediately used 【Scout Technique】 toward the front.

"Humans, humans, Wind Wolves, the Wind Wolf King..."

Ivan's voice suddenly rose by eight degrees.

"Monsters are besieging the caravan; hurry up and help them!"

Dozens of Wind Wolves were besieging a caravan with more than ten soldiers.

The soldiers had their backs against the wagon, twelve long spears forming a thorny iron ring around its perimeter, every spear shaft slick with grey-green wolf fur.

In the middle were two casters, ceaselessly hurling magic into the wolf mass.

Only this kept them from being drowned, wave after wave, beneath the wind wolves' assaults.

"Close up! Close up! Don't leave any gaps — if these beasts dare approach, stab their damn heads off!"

The guard captain shouted orders at the top of his lungs, his own hands never idle — one thrust of his spear pinned a wind wolf that had drawn too close.

Yet that single move seemed to give the wind wolf king, who had been watching from a distant rock, the opening it was waiting for.

With a short howl, a wind blade shot from the wolf king's maw, streaking straight toward the guard captain, who was struggling to wrench his spearhead free from a wolf corpse.

Clang—

The wind blade struck the iron armor without piercing it, but the sudden impact sent the guard captain staggering backward.

A gap instantly opened in the spear formation; the wind wolves gave the captain no chance to regain his footing and surged through it in a frenzy.

The soldiers on either flank were quickly dragged down by the pack, and the line collapsed in an instant.

The guard captain himself was pounced on by two wolves, which set about tearing at his arm.

It's over!

Just as despair gripped everyone, a black shadow flashed past like the wind.

The guard captain stared in astonishment as the two wind wolves on him suddenly spouted great gouts of blood from their necks.

The wolf bodies slumped down, but the wolf heads still clung to his vambraces, jaws locked.

Not just those two — every wolf that had surged forward was decapitated within the span of a breath.

"Ice Storm!"

A slightly aged voice drifted over from a distance.

At once, a biting cold wind swept past the front of the caravan.

The remaining several dozen wind wolves, including the wind wolf king standing proud atop its boulder, all froze into motionless ice sculptures once the cold wind passed.

Even though the caster had deliberately steered clear of the caravan, the cold that still leaked across made the guard captain shiver.

"Are you all right?" Nova strode over with Ivan and Garr.

The guard captain looked around — every one of his men was wounded, but none seemed seriously hurt.

"Thank you, you saved us."

"Wait —" the guard captain suddenly remembered something — "Go save Mena!"

"Mena?"

"The priestess! She got scattered by the wolf pack and ran into the forest!"

At Ivan's words, he immediately scanned the forest and quickly pointed out a direction.

"Owl, over there!"

Owl, who had just been examining the ice sculptures, sprinted at top speed toward the direction Ivan had indicated.

Soon, several whines from wind wolves echoed out from within the forest.

A little while later, Owl walked back out of the forest with a priestess — face smudged with dirt, clothes torn in more than a few places.

Seeing this, the guard captain finally exhaled in relief.

"Good thing I'm fast — her barrier almost got bitten through." Owl grinned, pointing at the priestess named Mena.

After taking the priestess back, the guard captain thanked Nova and his companions repeatedly.

"Are you also escorting the priestess to Covenant City?" Nova asked.

The guard captain nodded, but looking at the wagon with its broken wheel, he could not help but smile wryly.

Nova noticed their situation as well, figuring it was on the way anyway.

"Want me to take the priestess through for you?"

"Th-thank you so very much!" The guard captain bowed deeply, deeply grateful.
