Chapter 25: 25 Escape

~8 min read 1,407 words

Finlad's church.

Ever since the residents here were relocated, the church had been used as a place to house the wounded, and a batch of wounded poisoned by blood poison were also tied up separately in compartments.

The priest didn't give up on these people but notified their relatives, hoping that one or two of them could be saved.

Today, the smell of blood in the church was several times thicker than usual.

Wounded people were constantly being sent in, a large part of whom were seriously injured.

"Uh-ah-ah, let me go!"

Without holy light suppression for a long time, the patients poisoned by blood poison had become more and more restless.

Novice priest Malvin pressed down a struggling patient hard, and his companion cooperated to tie the rope tightly.

"This won't do, still need holy light technique to suppress; where is Priest Grane?"

His companion glanced at the roaring patients around and shook his head:

"Still treating the wounded outside; two more seriously injured ones just came, the priest might not have the energy to help them anymore."

"I'll go ask."

Malvin came outside and sure enough saw the priest holding a soldier's intestines back with one hand and casting healing spells to keep him alive with the other.

After the soldier's injury finally stabilized, Malvin stepped forward and said to the priest:

"Priest Grane, the blood poison patients must be suppressed with holy light technique, otherwise I'm afraid they won't be able to hold on."

Grane turned around, and Malvin noticed that his eyes didn't have the spirit of the past, and he looked exhausted.

This was a sign of magic overdraft.

Malvin felt that there was probably no holy light technique left.

Sure enough, he only saw Grane say with an unbearable face:

"Malvin, take a sword and go in; help those who can't hold on find relief.

I can't abandon these people who can clearly be saved for the sake of blood poison patients with slim hope.

I'll bear any consequences."

"Yes..."

Picking up a soldier's sword from the wall, Malvin returned to the compartment.

There were more people going crazy.

His companion saw him come back with a sword and understood the meaning, walking out unbearably.

Walking up to the man struggling most violently, Malvin took a deep breath.

He knew this person; he was the captain of a patrol squad who had accidentally drunk creek water that had been tampered with during a mission and became like this.

"Sorry, may the Lord of Light, Ixion, save your soul."

The long sword pierced into his neck, ending the captain's pain.

Malvin sighed long and walked toward the next person.

This was a young female adventurer who was said to have been attacked by bats while doing a commission.

Half of her eyes had already been dyed red, which was a precursor to being completely transformed and the most painful stage.

But she gritted her teeth and didn't cry out, just let out muffled groans.

It made Malvin feel respect.

It was just a pity.

The female adventurer smelled the blood on Malvin's sword, didn't resist, just closed her eyes, trembling slightly, preparing to welcome her pathetic ending.

"May the Lord of Light, Ixion, save your soul."

Bang—

The door was rushed open, and the sudden change made Malvin's sword freeze in mid-air.

The person who came wore a tattered cloak, and after seeing the female adventurer, rushed over like crazy, knocking Malvin down at once.

"What are you going crazy for? I'm helping them find rel—"

Malvin thought the person who came had misunderstood something and got up holding his waist, wanting to drive him away.

But when he saw what the person who came was holding, he was stunned.

"Rebirth Potion!"

The one wearing the cloak was naturally Dylan; he didn't pay attention to what Malvin said at all, just looked at his daughter's painful appearance with heartache.

Taking out the potion with his intact right hand, he carefully fed it to her.

"Dad?"

"Bella, don't be afraid, father is here; this is the potion that can save you, you'll be fine."

Bella didn't seem to dare to believe that her father could appear at this time, but she still drank it obediently.

As the potion entered her body, Bella felt a stinging pain all over her body.

"Ah!"

The suddenly intensified pain made Bella scream out for a moment, and then she simply fainted.

"This, this, what's going on? Is there a problem with the potion? What should I do?"

Dylan was completely panicked; if this only hope was fake... then he must go back and kill that goat-bearded man's whole family!

Seeing this, Malvin, who knew what was going on, hurriedly explained:

"Don't be anxious, this is a normal phenomenon of the Rebirth Potion; to transform the changed parts back, naturally, one will experience the pain again.

It's good that she fainted; after she wakes up, everything will be fine."

"Re, really?"

Dylan grabbed Malvin's hand, with such force that Malvin, a novice priest, hissed in pain.

"Really, really! Let go of me!"

Realizing his impropriety, Dylan hurriedly let go and apologized somewhat awkwardly.

"Forget it... I understand you."

Saying that, Malvin picked up the sword on the ground and walked toward another patient who was about to transform, continuing to complete his task—not everyone had that luck of turning danger into safety.

Bella was frowning tightly at this time, seeming to feel pain even in her sleep.

Dylan stroked her face gently, tears shining in his eyes.

He had finally saved his daughter.

The shouting and killing outside could almost no longer be heard; the blood-eating ghouls who came to attack were not many compared to the soldiers, just taking advantage of the sneak attack.

The manager here seemed to have some ability; before Dylan came in, he saw that he had already organized the soldiers outside the church and formed a team to start counter-killing.

Dylan himself was also covered in blood on his face to cover the mycelia before being let in.

Order would soon be restored here...

"Lucky girl, you two must have a deep relationship to rush into the village in this situation."

After killing all the restless patients, Malvin started chatting, needing to find someone to talk to to relieve his psychological pressure.

Dylan, however, seemed to have remembered something after hearing this, stood up somewhat flustered, and ran out.

"Sigh, sigh?"

Making Malvin full of doubts, he didn't need to run even if he didn't want to chat?

Dylan rushed out of the church and scanned the surroundings, confirming that there were no more traces of blood-eating ghouls and that the church would no longer be in danger.

He took advantage of the fact that the soldiers hadn't fully restored order and slipped out of the village.

It wasn't that he didn't want to watch his daughter wake up; he was just afraid.

Moving his left hand that had regained sensation, the mycelia fusing with flesh and blood at the wound reminded him of the fact that he had long been alienated.

It wasn't that he was afraid his daughter wouldn't accept him; on the contrary.

Just as the novice priest said, they were father and daughter with deep affection.

So deep that even if Bella knew that her father had become like this, she would stand by his side without hesitation.

And this was exactly what he was afraid of.

His abnormality would be discovered sooner or later; by then, whether he would live or die facing the verdict was unknown.

And Bella had excellent talent and would have a beautiful future; Dylan couldn't accept her ruining that future for his sake.

He must stay away from Bella.

But where could he go now?

Dylan even felt that maybe he should find a place to end himself, which would be the most appropriate.

But people ultimately longed for life; for his daughter, he could disregard his life, and now that his daughter was safe, he couldn't bear to part with his own life either.

If possible, he still wanted to hide in some place, occasionally inquire about Bella's news, and know whether she was doing well or not.

After thinking about it, Dylan decided to go to a place first; in the dark, he felt that he could find a way to survive there.
