Chapter 29

~7 min read 1,347 words

Two raiders attacked from outside the cave, not giving Vera and the others a moment to react.

Glonggba laughed loudly as he used Charge, aiming directly at Feiyin, who was dressed in mage gear.

Yet, facing the surprise attack, Feiyin still hadn't figured out why her detection spell hadn't discovered the opponents in advance.

Vera roared as he drew his scimitar, his figure sliding in front of Feiyin as if stepping on ice to intercept the dwarf.

The broad-bladed axe and the scimitar collided, sparking countless embers.

As soon as they engaged, Vera was at a disadvantage; the axe blade pressed all the way to Vera's collarbone.

Vera braced the blade with both hands, only then preventing the axe from splitting him in two.

"Kid, your weapon isn't bad; it must be worth a good price."

Being this close, Vera could even smell the stench of alcohol on the dwarf's breath.

"Feiyin!"

Called by name, Feiyin suddenly snapped out of her panic and cast several buff spells on Vera in quick succession.

Empowered, Vera retreated and performed a flourish with his blade, forcing the dwarf to pull back a few steps.

Having failed to gain an advantage, the dwarf immediately cursed at his partner who was slacking off behind him:

"Half-Ear, what the hell are you watching the show for? Take care of that brat with the staff!"

"What's the rush? Doesn't drawing the string take time?"

Nasa walked over from behind holding a crossbow, but instead of firing, he pulled a small bag from his bosom and threw it toward Feiyin.

Vera watched the small bag fly over, but didn't wait for Feiling to intercept it with an arrow.

"Feiling?"

In the end, he had to step forward and pierce it with his blade, causing a burst of pale blue powder.

Vera hurriedly covered his nose and retreated with Feiyin, looking toward Feiling, only to find her lying on the ground unable to get up.

"."

Nasa smiled as he aimed the crossbow at them and pulled the trigger; he loved watching the prey panic.

Feiyin hurriedly cast a spell, but her magic shield only formed a prototype in mid-air before dissipating.

"That's why you're rookies; you can't even recognize the powder of a Magic-Sealing Flower."

"Despicable!"

In desperation, Vera stepped forward to shield Feiyin behind him, blocking the crossbow bolt with his side-blade, though his hands were left numb from the impact.

Glonggba was waiting for this exact moment!

The muscles in his arms bulged, and hot air puffed from his nostrils.

The dwarf swung his broad-bladed axe toward Vera's waist.

Vera could only barely press his scimitar against his body before being smashed out of the cave by the axe.

Although he didn't die, he was left with only a breath of life.

After Vera fell, Feiyin, a mage who couldn't cast spells, was naturally knocked unconscious in two hits.

The entire battle had been under the control of the two raiders.

But this couldn't be blamed on Vera and the others; their only combat experience was with monsters, and the items they carried were the same.

Whereas the raiders' tactics, items, and skills were all aimed at humans.

Coupled with premeditation against the unprepared and a level advantage, and the fact that they didn't pick seasoned veterans as targets, they rarely failed.

Glonggba raised his axe, ready to finish them off one by one, but was stopped by Nasa.

The dwarf asked impatiently: "What for? Seeing they're twins, you want to play around?"

Nasa, upon hearing this, showed a look of disgust: "What are you thinking? When have I ever looked for low-borns without elven blood?"

Glonggba, however, was unimpressed by this inexplicable sense of superiority; clearly, Nasa himself was a half-breed mongrel.

Of course, he had never said this to Nasa's face; as a partner, Nasa's endless supply of small gadgets was still very useful.

"Then what do you want to do?"

"Tie them up; in a while, when they wake up, we'll play the game of deciding who to kill and who to let go."

This was a game Nasa had cooked up himself; simply put, it was letting the captured people decide among themselves who lived and who died.

Of course, he would kill them all in the end; Nasa just wanted to appreciate the drama of teammates betraying each other to survive.

Glonggba rolled his eyes; he didn't have such peculiar hobbies.

Although he was addicted to alcohol, gambling, and killing, compared to his perverted partner, he was practically a good dwarf.

But he didn't care about Nasa's hobbies; if he wanted to play, let him play.

He was more interested in the large walking mushroom in the cave; he had seen it pull a shield out of its body with his own eyes just now.

Could it be stuffed full of good things inside?

————

Pain!

So painful!

Broken ribs were piercing into his flesh, the bone of his left arm had punctured the skin and was exposed, and blood mixed with internal organs was flowing from his mouth.

Vera was woken up entirely by the pain.

He wanted to move, but couldn't, only to realize he was tied to a tree.

And on the two trees in front of him, his two childhood sweethearts were tied up, still unconscious.

"Feiling... Fei... yin..."

Under Vera's continuous, weak calls, the two women slowly regained consciousness.

As soon as they woke up, they saw the dying Vera.

"Vera, you're so badly hurt! Damn this rope..."

Feiling struggled to break free from her restraints, but couldn't at all.

She could only look at her sister.

"Feiyin, use magic!"

"I... I can't use it... wuwu... I can't use it..."

Feiyin had never seen Vera suffer such heavy injuries, and being unable to use magic herself, she cried in anxiety.

"Want to leave? I can let you go~"

A nightmarish voice came from behind the tree; Nasa was playing with a small knife in his hand, walking smilingly between the three.

"What do you want?"

"What do I want?" Nasa pressed the small knife against Feiling's cheek, lightly cutting a small slit, "One here is your sister, one is your little man; pick one."

"Pick what?"

"Pick who dies!"

Nasa said, cracking the corners of his mouth, his tongue constantly licking his teeth, his tone uncontrollably excited.

"Pick one to die, and I'll let you and the other go, how about that?"

Feiling suddenly stretched her neck to bite his hand, but Nasa dodged it in time.

"Pick your mother to die! You piece of trash! Animal! You mongrel who will be bitten to death by wild dogs sooner or later!"

"Tsk."

A slap landed on Feiling's face, the force so great that a broken tooth flew out.

Feiling was knocked unconscious on the spot, and Feiyin, seeing this, cried even harder.

"Boring mongrel."

Having said that, he was about to go ask the other twin to choose, but heard Vera's mosquito-like voice.

"Kill..."

Nasa's eyes lit up instantly, and he hurried forward:

"Yes, yes, who do you say to kill? Don't worry, if you choose, I'll feed you a Life Potion; I guarantee you won't die."

Fearing Vera wouldn't believe him, he even took a bottle of Life Potion out of his pocket.

"Kill... me... let... them... go..."

"You, sigh—"

Nasa straightened his back, scanned the three with cold eyes, and finally raised the small knife.

"How boring, you like to sacrifice yourself, right? Then I'll let you watch them die first!"

Meanwhile, inside the cave.

Glonggba tried pulling, tugging, and dragging, but couldn't open the pocket of the fat Puji that had the Resilience skill.

The dwarf finally lost his patience and decided to do something direct.

Standing in front of the fat Puji, he raised his axe above his head.

[Heavy Cleave LV6]

Amidst a heaven-shaking, earth-shattering roar, Glonggba turned into a sky full of raindrops that showered onto Nasa, who had fallen to the ground.

Nasa: ???

Lin Jun: ???
