Chapter 59: 66 Unable to win despite giving it one's all
In front of the main gate of the Duke of St. Claire's mansion.
"Mr. Eric, this is a package addressed to Miss Inanna."
The speaker was a neatly dressed, polite young man.
Eric knew this young man; he was a junior supervisor who had just arrived at the local Guild post station this year. Every time there was mail for the Duke's mansion, he delivered it personally.
Behind him followed two guards; from the sword and shield emblem on their shoulder straps, one could tell they were official Guild personnel.
The young man held a small sealed box with both hands, and a red seal was pasted on one corner of the box—this was the highest-spec mail on the surface for the Guild post station.
"For the Young Lady?" Eric confirmed with slight doubt.
"Yes, Miss Inanna's package." The young man had a smile on his face, his hands holding the box motionless, without a hint of impatience.
This was strange; at this time, who would be sending things to Miss Inanna?
And with a red seal, at that.
The Young Lady's social circle wasn't broad, mostly limited to the kingdom's noble circles, and in the past year, she had had even less interaction with the outside world.
If it were formal correspondence between nobles, they would use the exclusive sky-blue seal.
Then it must be sent privately by children of other noble families.
Was it that child from Count Roland's family?
Although Eric thought a lot, he didn't let the young man wait too long in action.
He reached out and took the box: "Thank you for your hard work, Josh."
Seeing that his name was actually remembered by Eric, Josh was clearly excited.
But it was only for an instant; he returned to calm and didn't stay a moment longer.
"It is my honor to serve St. Claire. Since the package has been delivered, please allow me to take my leave."
After speaking, he left with the two guards.
Bringing the package back, Eric didn't hand it directly to Inanna.
Instead, he returned to his room and took out some magic tools.
First, he tore open the red seal, and a tiny wave of magic power rippled out.
Eric was not surprised by this; the seal was originally a small tool used to ensure that the package had not been opened midway.
Opening the box, it was divided into two compartments inside.
In one compartment was a letter, and in the other was a magic crystal the size of a ring.
Eric recognized its quality at a glance—S-rank.
This made him even more puzzled, and he denied his previous guess that this was a letter from other noble children.
No child would be so extravagant as to give an S-rank magic crystal to a friend.
Curiosity was curiosity, but Eric wouldn't deliberately investigate the answers to these questions, and he didn't look at the content of the letter either.
All he had to do was ensure the Young Lady's safety.
After monitoring with several magic tools, he ensured that there was no danger in either item.
What he did was not acting on his own; long before he came, the Duke had granted him these permissions.
After finishing everything, Eric packed up the items, and both the letter and the magic crystal were put back into the box.
Then he took the box and headed straight to the training ground.
————
Inside the training ground, which was paved with obsidian and reinforced by enchantment.
Waves of magic power caused by the battle came out in bursts.
In the field, two young people were competing in magic.
Inanna's magic teacher, Julian, stood at the edge of the field, observing the battle between the two.
Noticing the footsteps coming from behind, Julian turned his head to look.
"Good day, Mr. Butler."
Eric nodded in response: "Good day, Scholar."
Scholar was Julian's identity within the Relic Association.
"Mr. Butler, how do you have time to watch Inanna's class today?"
According to Julian's own observation, this butler was a very busy man, although he didn't know what the other party was busy with.
Of course, this question was purely for greeting; Julian had no interest in prying into the secrets of the Duke's mansion.
The only thing he was interested in was that study room.
Eric didn't hide it either: "There is a package for the Young Lady."
Julian also noticed the thing in Eric's hand: "Then I'll call her over now."
"No need, let them finish fighting." Eric shook his head and refused.
Seeing this, Julian turned his attention back to the training ground again.
Several magic missiles were thrown out by Calvin, drawing arcs in the air and shooting towards Inanna on the other side.
Inanna just stood in place, using water mirror refraction, condensing a water mirror rippling with waves in front of her.
Then she ignored the incoming attacks and focused on casting the next skill.
Facing the incoming magic missiles, the water mirror moved flexibly around Inanna, intercepting these attacks just right every time.
Two of the magic missiles were even found at the right angle by the water mirror and bounced back.
To avoid the bounced-back attacks, Calvin had to interrupt the next spell in his hand and ran two steps to the left.
Just as he stood still, Inanna's water snake spell flew over again.
Calvin wanted to retreat, to get out of the attack range of the water snake spell, but he didn't expect the condensation degree of this water snake spell to far exceed his expectations.
He had to use a magic shield to offset the water snake spell.
However, after such a delay, Inanna's next magic was ready.
The scene in the training ground was almost Inanna standing in place, burying her head in casting spells, while Calvin was jumping up and down on the other side, dealing with the attacks that kept coming.
Occasionally finding time to try to counterattack, he would be bounced back by the water mirror that had not dissipated, making him even more embarrassed.
By the end of the fight, Calvin was almost crying.
After Inanna finally remembered to use the mud swamp spell to seal Calvin's movements, Julian terminated the duel.
Looking at his eldest disciple who was lying on the ground like a dead dog after stepping out of the mud swamp, Julian didn't think he performed badly.
In fact, because he was constantly being disturbed, the frequency of successful spellcasting was far less than Inanna's, and Julian thought Calvin would have been defeated much earlier.
He didn't expect his eldest disciple to insist until now by relying on monkey-like footwork, jumping up and down, in an ugly posture that was very un-mage-like.
He didn't know whether he should be happy or helpless.
As for Inanna...
He could only say that [Favor of the Elemental Spirit] was a talent that even he would feel envious of.
Sometimes God is just so partial to a person, not only giving her the best birth but also top-tier talent.
Calvin didn't lose unjustly at all.
"Alright, that's it for today, go and rest."
Calvin seemed still a bit unconvinced, muttering in a low voice: "If I could use rings and magic potions, I wouldn't have lost so easily!"
Julian glanced at him and asked: "Then shouldn't Inanna also use that magic wand of hers?"
Calvin shut up immediately.
Indeed, neither of them used equipment in the duel.
If Inanna brought that staff embedded with a large A-rank magic crystal, Calvin also knew he would only lose faster...
Ignoring the disciple who was deeply hit, Julian said to Inanna:
"Inanna, Eric has a package for you."
Unlike Calvin, who was like a dead dog, Inanna was only slightly panting now, as if she had just done a set of warm-up exercises.
Hearing Julian's words, she looked to the side of the field and saw Eric holding the box at a glance.
Then she asked doubtfully: "My package?"
