Chapter 49: Create a God, Destroy a God!

~6 min read 1,192 words

The greatest in history and present?

The greatest in history and present!!!

Seeing the final evaluation on the Shenglong List, Ye Qingshi stood frozen, speechless.

Suddenly, she remembered her earlier words, teasing Fang Can’s ambition to climb the Tianji List.

And now, as if legend had stepped into reality, a youth rated the greatest in history and present had quietly yet wildly overturned her inner lake.

“This… is you, isn’t it?” Ye Qingshi asked.

In her heart, doubts and suspicions surged—perhaps the Tianji List was forged by Yan Zhi, a cruel joke meant for her.

But as she looked up, Yan Zhi’s face, who delivered the list, was equally stunned; his skin tightened with shock upon seeing the names.

So the girl wanted confirmation—she needed Fang Can to confirm whether this list was real.

“...Hmm, not me.” Fang Can snapped the book shut with a snap, refusing to flip further.

“You’re lying.” In an instant, Ye Qingshi challenged him, believing without reason that Fang Can was lying.

“If Ye Miss believes it is, then let it be.” Fang Can rose from his wheelchair, his hand crushing the entire booklet into a tight ball of paper.

He looked up at the sky, where the warm sunlight clearly shone into his eyes, dispersing the irritation in his heart.

In the mere turn of his head, he saw a muscular man with a pair of small mustaches standing behind him.

He sighed softly inside, then bowed to the man: “Master Ye, have you come here to stop me?”

Ye Yonglie regarded the young man before him with a complex gaze; he had suspected Fang Can’s identity might hold secrets, but never imagined they were this terrifying.

For one person to achieve both the first level of Xuanguan and awaken the Xinxiang, and to do so in less than a month of martial training, truly deserves the title of greatest in history and present.

“I merely wish for Fang Young Friend to continue guiding us with your Xinxiang,” Ye Yonglie smiled.

“Oh?” Fang Can countered: “Master Ye has surely seen the Tianji List. Even so, you won’t expel me? Aren’t you afraid of angering the Hu Sha Men?”

“Why expel Fang Young Friend?” Ye Yonglie said. “As long as we don’t speak, who else besides the Tianji Tower knows you’re here?”

“It’s like darkness beneath a lamp—everyone assumes Fang Young Friend, a discarded disciple of the Hu Sha Men, will flee quickly. But if we do the opposite, who could possibly know?”

Fang Can’s brow furrowed slightly as he stared silently at Ye Yonglie before him.

“Only dozens of disciples in the martial hall heard your name yesterday. If we all agree to keep this secret, Fang Young Friend has nothing to fear.”

As Ye Yonglie spoke, Fang Can’s urge to act vanished. He looked at Ye Yonglie and said:

“Is this your decision? Even at the risk of your sect’s annihilation, you’d shelter me? What do you gain?”

“Because I believe Fang Young Friend can become the strongest,” Ye Yonglie grinned with a fierce smile. “I’m staking my entire lifetime of martial cultivation on you!”

“I intend to worship Fang Young Friend as a god!” Ye Yonglie’s eyes locked onto Fang Can, his voice resolute.

“Worship me as a god?”

Fang Can tilted his head, not understanding. But as he turned his gaze, he saw the stunned expressions on Yan Zhi’s and Ye Qingshi’s faces.

“I’ve trained only briefly—what does this ‘worship as god’ mean?” Fang Can asked.

“Of course. To worship a god means to revere a person as divine, to become the most fervent believer, to offer everything to the deity, and to regard the deity as supreme.”

Ye Qingshi volunteered the explanation, her eyes filled with worry for her father—she never expected him to be willing to pay such a price.

“But what use is such worship?” Fang Can asked, baffled. If what Ye Qingshi said was true, the cost was too great.

“It’s immensely useful. Sincere worship allows one to cultivate through faith in the deity. The closer one draws to the deity, the more divine miracles one witnesses, the stronger the faith becomes, and the greater the benefit to cultivation.”

“Believers must worship devoutly; the deity need only do one thing—keep winning.”

“Creating a god is easy; destroying one is equally easy.”

“Believers construct a perfect deity in their hearts to worship. But if that deity is defeated, if it gains a blemish, the believers’ faith shatters—and they may even descend into madness.”

Ye Qingshi spoke seriously—this was both an explanation to Fang Can and a warning to her father, urging him to think carefully.

After all, who can remain undefeated forever? Every defeat of the deity strikes a massive blow to the believers, until the god’s golden body turns to clay, and the believers meet no good end.

‘What a fan-cultivation method.’ Fang Can thought silently, then asked:

“If real gods can fail, why not build a divine statue in your mind, and worship a virtual god?”

‘Like the future Buddha Luo Tianyi—such a figure could never collapse, right?’ Fang Can mused.

“Because a virtual god has no divine miracles—it’s like a flower in water or a moon in a mirror, rootless and fleeting,” Ye Yonglie said sternly.

“What is a divine miracle? A deity walking among mortals is itself a miracle. A false god may never lose, but it is built on lies—pierce it once, and it collapses.”

“Only a true god, by defeating enemies again and again with overwhelming strength and commanding words, can strengthen the believers’ faith,” Ye Yonglie said.

‘Got it. Virtual idols won’t work—but idols can build personas.’ Fang Can understood.

“So… I wish to worship Fang Young Friend as a god, and offer everything to you.”

Ye Yonglie spoke with earnest sincerity, then knelt directly on the ground: “Please, Divine One, grant your blessing.”

“This…” Fang Can stared at the kneeling martial hall master, momentarily lost, unsure whether to accept.

“Young Master Fang, please accept Master Ye’s request,” Yan Zhi urged. “All gains and losses affect only the believers. The deity need only receive and enjoy the offerings.”

“Every renowned martial artist has a group of fanatical believers. Soon, more and more will seek to worship you as a god.”

“This…” Fang Can hesitated slightly, then slowly nodded. “Alright.”

At his words, Ye Yonglie’s furrowed brow relaxed. He bowed three deep, reverent bows to Fang Can, then raised his head: “What is your Divine Title, O God?”

“Call me Fang… Tian Di,” Fang Can said, his voice uncertain, even to himself.

At once, Ye Yonglie bowed three more solemn, resonant bows, silently reciting divine miracles in his mind.

What is a divine miracle? The words on the Tianji List are divine miracles!

What past mortal could ever have achieved even one of those evaluations?

Only a god deserves the title of greatest in history and present.

With this thought, a profound emotion welled from his heart, followed by a tranquil aura that enveloped the hearts of those nearby.

Merely by bowing lightly, Ye Yonglie’s Xinxiang spontaneously arose within his mind.
