Chapter 19: Meng Wuyou: Say, Are You Xiang Xuanqing
"What are you two sisters looking at?"
Chang Xi brought the two little ones over to Dan Xiao and Qing Xiao.
The two goddesses leaned on the railing, gazing into the distance.
In the void, a precious mirror wreathed in immortal qi floated, its reflection showing the Blood Sea.
This object was none other than the Kunlun Mirror.
As soon as the Battle of the Blood Sea began, the Queen Mother of the West used this divine treasure’s property to anchor space-time and conduct a “live broadcast” of the Blood Sea.
At the Pantao Society, many goddesses were watching the battle.
"Has it ended already?"
When Chang Xi arrived, she just saw Ming He manifesting endlessly while Feng Du suppressing numerous enemies.
Finally, Feng Du suddenly halted and glanced toward the Western Kunlun.
The image cut off there.
The Queen Mother of the West casually recalled the Kunlun Mirror.
"So we were spotted," Dan Xiao goddess [Ying Long] sighed, withdrawing her gaze regretfully.
She stood tall and elegant, wearing a wide-sleeved long robe embroidered with pale gold cloud patterns, her aura noble beyond words.
Qing Xiao goddess [Nü Qing] stood beside her, clad in green robes, gentle in demeanor, holding a scroll of red script on jade tablets.
"Huh? Is this a little fox from the Shen Xiao family?"
Qing Xiao goddess also noticed the little fox Jiu, with nine tails—undoubtedly a fox from Qingqiu.
"A little fox from Qingqiu?"
Ying Long let out a soft sound of surprise, her gaze toward Jiu tinged with curiosity.
She bent down and reached out to stroke Jiu’s fox ears.
"D-Dan Xiao Lady!" Jiu’s face flushed crimson; she gripped Chang Xi’s hand tightly and shrank back.
Ying Long looked at the little creature and smiled warmly: "Don’t be nervous—I don’t eat children."
At these words, the green bird to her right subtly shifted her steps, hiding behind Chang Xi.
This scene made Ying Long giggle.
She asked Jiu: "I heard from your Shen Xiao Lady that Qingqiu foxes excel at transformation, but you don’t seem fully transformed."
Ying Long withdrew her hand to avoid making Jiu too tense.
Jiu immediately exhaled in relief and whispered: "Our Qingqiu clan truly excels at transformation."
As she spoke, she plucked off the ear Ying Long had just touched and tucked it into her tail.
Ying Long: "..."
What had she just plucked off?
"Ah! Jiu, you—you—you—your ears! How can you take off your ears?!"
The green bird leapt up in shock.
She stammered, staring at this new friend in utter disbelief.
"Ears can be taken off easily," Jiu said calmly, now with only one left ear.
She reached out and plucked off the other ear, tucking it into her tail as well.
Qing Xiao goddess and Chang Xi exchanged glances.
Ying Long blinked, stunned: "Do Qingqiu foxes transform like this?"
"Mm-hmm."
Jiu nodded.
Then Jiu pulled the ears out from the same tail and placed them back on her head.
Ying Long fell silent for a moment.
Then she reached out and touched them again.
Her fingertips felt the soft, furry texture—just as before.
It was real.
The green bird stared at Jiu, eyes gleaming.
"What about your tail?" Chang Xi also grew curious about this little creature.
"The tail can be retracted directly." Behind Jiu, her nine tails vanished in a flash.
Ying Long blinked—this part was reasonably normal.
"Of course—"
The little fox changed tone: "But they can be used as weapons when necessary."
Clang! Clang! Clang!!
A flash of white light—Jiu’s nine tails emitted a crisp metallic scraping sound, unfolding like umbrella-swords.
"Like this..." Jiu formed a hand seal.
The nine tails detached from her body, spun once in midair, and transformed into nine heavenly swords.
"Or like this."
Jiu traced a circle in the air with her finger. The nine tails instantly shot toward a barren little hill in Kunlun Xu.
BOOM!!
The fox tails fell like nine celestial stars, obliterating the hill.
The little one controlled her power remarkably well.
The explosion’s force was contained to a single spot, spreading no outward damage—no living beings were harmed.
"Were those just tails just now?" Meng Wuyou noticed this.
Nü Wa nodded: "You didn’t imagine it."
"Do all Qingqiu foxes do this?" A flicker of doubt passed through Meng Wuyou’s eyes.
"How would I know?"
Meng Wuyou didn’t believe her—Nü Wa’s eyes clearly sparkled with amusement!
"If you don’t know, why are you luring that little fox?"
Nü Wa pondered: "Because creation is wondrous?"
Meng Wuyou rolled her eyes: "Can you be any more evasive?"
"You ask if I don’t speak, but you don’t believe me when I tell the truth."
Nü Wa gazed far off at the tails transforming into various shapes in the sky.
Her voice drifted softly: "Life itself is wondrous. Every deity, every race is a creation of Heaven and Earth."
"Lately, I’ve had some doubts about the Way of Creation, and then I happened upon a lost little fox."
"So what? Can she resolve your Great Dao doubts?"
Meng Wuyou glanced at Jiu—the little one wasn’t even as tall as her leg.
Nü Wa shook her head: "She can’t. But the nine-tailed fox race happens to fall within my area of study."
Nü Wa studied Meng Wuyou seriously: "Don’t you find the nine-tailed fox’s transformation method strangely wondrous?"
"That’s true."
Meng Wuyou nodded—Qingqiu Mountain’s style was indeed peculiar.
It made Meng Wuyou unconsciously think of Xiang Xuanqing.
[Could Qingqiu’s peculiar style possibly be tied to Xiang Xuanqing?]
Meng Wuyou mused inwardly.
She had long suspected whether one of the Nine Celestial Realms of Tai Su was Xiang Xuanqing’s Dao body.
After all, primordial deities aren’t bound by form—through the dissolution and transformation of their bodies, they wander the Honghuang, comprehending the Great Dao, which is common.
And Shen Xiao was her prime suspect!
On the other side, Jiu finished her performance.
"There are many more transformations," Jiu’s phantom tails swayed gently behind her.
She hugged one of them like a pillow.
"Shen Xiao Lady taught us: Techniques have no fixed form; foxes have no fixed shape!"
Jiu’s face glowed with boundless admiration for Shen Xiao: "I still have a long way to go in transformation!"
"Really?" Chang Xi, witnessing the nine-tailed fox’s abilities for the first time, felt a wave of awe.
Jiu nodded: "Shen Xiao Lady is far more powerful than me—her tail can... umm!"
"Shhh~~"
A slender finger pressed against Jiu’s lips; a goddess appeared, winking at Jiu.
"Jiu, if you keep talking, there won’t be any secrets left in Qingqiu."
"Shen Xiao Lady!" Jiu beamed.
In a flash, she leapt into Shen Xiao’s arms.
"Why are you only here now?" Meng Wuyou approached Shen Xiao, fixing her with an intense gaze.
Shen Xiao goddess smiled faintly: "Something delayed me."
Meng Wuyou narrowed her eyes: "Is that so?"
"Naturally," Shen Xiao goddess nodded.
Meng Wuyou sneered, then directly transmitted her voice:
【Shenxiao, speak up—are you someone else’s Dao body?】
“??!!” Shenxiao’s eyes widened slightly.
Isn’t that a bit too direct?
No more testing?
Note 1: Nüqing, whose domain over the Dao is “Law.”
Inspired by the Nüqing Tianlü, whose full title is The Supreme Mixed Void Crimson Text: Nüqing’s Edict and Heavenly Law.
This is one of many heavenly statutes within Daoism, outlining behavioral codes for celestial deities, earthly land and stove gods, underworld spirits, and malevolent deities—it is a systematic code of conduct for divine beings.
Note 2: Yinglong, also known as Gengchen, the War God and World God.
This novel’s portrayal of Yinglong adopts the “Yinglong Kai” and “Taiyi Yuanfei” theories.
