Chapter 127 - 112: Confidence

~7 min read 1,232 words

The speaker of these words was a Tiger Demon, standing over three meters tall, with a human body and a tiger’s head, his chest bare and his speech fierce, with a gaping, bloody maw. His tiger eyes scanned his surroundings with a hint of arrogance.

He had recently joined under King Niumo of the Demon King, known for his cruel and uncontrollable nature, which made him unpopular among the local monsters, consigned to the fringes.

However, this time he had gained considerable favor, having slaughtered all the Buddhist Soldiers who invaded his territory and even wounded a protector of the Buddhist Sect, filling him with pride. He felt that all other Demon Kings around him were useless, believing that only he deserved to sit in this cave mansion.

Seeing this, King Niumo felt a flicker of displeasure but still said with a smile, "Tiger King speaks well. The Buddhist Sect is not invincible; as long as we stand united, we can protect our heritage."

"Let us toast the Demon Kings," King Niumo said with a laugh, raising his glass. "Without their brave fighting at the borders, how could we sit here in peace?"

Although many Demon Kings disliked the Tiger King’s arrogance, they still raised their glasses in respect to the other Demon Kings, out of respect for King Niumo, although their sincerity was questionable.

After these recently joined Demon Kings had left, some of King Niumo’s old comrades were still there.

With those others gone, these fellows were filled with righteous indignation.

"What’s so great about this Tiger King? He’s got a tiny bit of merit and now acts high and mighty. If it weren’t for the King’s command, it wouldn’t be his turn to strut around," one of the Demon Kings cursed loudly.

"Just save it," another Demon King said with a faint smile. "After all, he took hits for us. What harm is there in letting him be arrogant for a while? A little fame, if it makes these Demon Kings fight harder, is still a gain for us."

"I just can’t stand it. Remember where we came from, the battlefields we’ve acted on? We never carried ourselves so haughtily."

"Calm down. The ones who came this time were just common Buddhist Soldiers; we didn’t need to get involved. Let them wear themselves out. Don’t worry, your time to shine will come."

As everyone was chatting, King Niumo slowly walked over. His demeanor had shifted from the genial and bold image to one of burgeoning power, his presence so overwhelming it seemed to solidify the air in the cave mansion.

"We see you, Great King!" everyone shouted in unison, kneeling on the ground.

This was the true bearing of King Niumo, forged in battles through mountains of corpses and seas of blood. If a weaker monster saw him now, they might collapse on the spot.

"Rise," King Niumo said flatly, his tone lacking its previous fervor.

He was well aware that this was just a testing phase, neither side had committed their true power, and these minor victories were insignificant. His previous encouragement was solely to boost morale.

After all, these new Demon Kings were rather disorganized. If he did not boost their morale, they probably wouldn’t have the courage to continue clashing with the Buddhist Sect.

But now, those who remained were his loyal followers, those who had fought alongside him to conquer these lands. In front of them, King Niumo never hid his true feelings.

"The Buddhist Sect is coming on strong!" King Niumo sighed as he sat on his throne.

From a glimpse of the pattern, one could see the whole picture. From just the probing attacks, King Niumo could tell that the Buddhist Sect’s resolve this time was unlikely to easily quell.

"Why should your Majesty boost others’ morale while diminishing your own prestige? It is true that the Buddhist Sect is formidable, but we are no pushovers. We managed through tougher times in the past. There’s no need to start from scratch," said a calm Demon King.

"Third Brother Mu is still as inspiring as ever," King Niumo remarked with emotion as he looked at the Demon King, who appeared stoic as a log.

He surveyed the surroundings, seeing solemnity but no trace of fear in the eyes of the seated Demon Kings. They were not naïve, unaware of the Buddhist Sect’s prowess, but expecting them to concede would likely require trampling over their corpses.

A smile suddenly crossed King Niumo’s face, "Indeed, initially I was merely an ordinary bull demon. We brothers scraped by in the Three Realms, but now each of us reigns like kings on our mountains quite merrily. Let the Buddhist Sect come if they will, and see if our fists are still as hard as before."

The crowd burst into hearty laughter upon hearing this, a familiar feeling they hadn’t experienced in many years.

Under the pressure of the Buddhist Sect, these individuals had finally reclaimed their once lost courage and conviction. This time the Buddhist Sect would face the true Supreme Sage Bull Demon King.

"Go and prepare well for the war. I reckon it won’t be long before the Buddhist Sect’s masters arrive at the frontline. When they do, I want them to have a one-way ticket," King Niumo said sternly.

The Demon Kings’ eyes flared red, thick Demon Qi filling the entire Cave Mansion, causing the surrounding guards and Fox Demons to shiver uncontrollably, unable to compose themselves.

Deep within the Cave Mansion, Jade-faced Princess was getting ready in front of a mirror, attended by her personal maid.

Suddenly, a fierce surge of Demon Qi came through, causing the maid’s hair-combing action to halt and her body to start trembling.

Jade-faced Princess sighed, taking the comb into her own hands, and softly scolded, "Really, how pathetic!"

"Princess, what is this?" the maid asked with a hint of fear in her voice, having never seen such terrifying Demon Qi that seemed like the sky and earth were collapsing before her.

"This is the greatest support of Supreme Sage Bull Demon King. You haven’t seen it, but when he initially led his brothers into Long-Live Fox Kingdom, the intense Demon Qi made all Fox Clan fall to their knees, even my father trembled. That was when I realized that there were such strong beings within the Demon Clan," the Jade-Faced Princess explained.

As she spoke, memories of that distant past flashed through her mind; it was her first sight of King Niumo, when she was just an immature Fox Spirit.

It was then that she truly realized, everything in this world was an illusion, except for strong power which is the source of everything.

King Niumo’s invincible image had left a deep imprint in her heart, and it was for this reason that she had shed her pride to seduce him, even willing to be a concubine to marry him.

However, in times of peace, King Niumo and his brothers had tempered their edge, no longer showing such a terrifying demeanor, which led many to underestimate how formidable they were.

In her eyes flashed again the scene from that time: King Niumo’s towering figure was like a mountain, surrounded by Iron Fan Princess and his brothers, their bodies carrying a strong smell of blood, their crimson eyes emitting a chilling light, quietly observing the people of Fox Kingdom.
