Chapter 134 - 119: Taking Action
Lin Fang also noticed the Buddhist Soldiers who had sneaked into the forest, and the corner of his mouth curled into a smile as he said, "A gift that comes to your doorstep should not be refused for free!"
After a moment of contemplation, Lin Fang’s figure flashed, and he had already flown in front of the Buddhist Soldiers.
The Buddhist Soldiers only felt a blur before their eyes, and suddenly there stood a person in front of them, dressed in a Daoist robe, with a transcendent aura, and an innate purity that roiled about him, hardly resembling a demon.
However, when something is amiss, it must be a monster, and in these woods rife with demons, how could there possibly be a cultivator? It’s very likely to be a monster.
But before they could act, a sudden suction force came from the sky, and in a flash, they found themselves in a Buddha Land filled with dazzling golden light.
A dignified and majestic Buddha sat crossed-legged on a Lotus Platform, below him kneeled devoted followers, and the holy sound of Zen chanting echoed between Heaven and Earth, with golden Buddha’s Light reflecting off every patch of land.
This scene seemed as if it could only be seen atop Mount Ling, yet unexpectedly, it also existed here.
"This is blasphemy!" One of the Buddhist Soldiers looked up at the dignified Buddha and suddenly shouted aloud.
However, when he was about to commit suicide, a huge swastika symbol lit up before him, and in an instant, he lost all intent of suicide, with nothing left in his mind but reverence for the Buddha before him.
The Buddhist Soldiers, one by one, entered the crowd, sat down crossed-legged, and chanted scriptures together with those around them, brightening this Buddha Land even more.
This battle happened so suddenly and ended even more abruptly. A group of demons, sensing something unusual here, came to investigate, only to see such a horrifying sight.
Lin Fang looked at the approaching little demons, a radiant smile on his face, nodded to them, and then left with his followers.
"So powerful!" A little demon muttered to himself while watching Lin Fang and the others walk away.
"Which Demon King is this from? Why have I never seen him before? His strength is much greater than that of the few Demon Kings on the nearby hills."
"I don’t know, maybe he’s a direct descendant of the Great Saint. After all, I’ve heard that they are all skilled hands, and they have been frequently causing trouble for the Buddhist Sect lately."
"Forget it, forget it, these are not things for us little folks to worry about. Just patrol the mountain obediently."
A group of little demons sighed and departed, while Lin Fang led his people, strolling through the dense forest.
The night sky was exceptionally bright that day, the stars shone brilliantly, and the silver moonlight slanted down into the woods, draping a silver veil over the dark forest.
The clear chirping of insects rose from the mountainside, one after another, and countless fireflies danced in the sky, making everything seem so beautiful, except for that golden net that spanned thousands of miles.
"What do you think?" Lin Fang asked the White Dragon, smiling.
"The Buddhist Sect is establishing its power," the White Dragon said softly with a sigh.
Lin Fang nodded in agreement. Indeed, the Buddhist Sect was merely establishing its power. After all, they had expanded too quickly recently and had drawn displeasure from many, and now they desperately needed to make an example of someone, to shatter the ill intentions of those harboring them.
The Supreme Sage Bull Demon King had extraordinary power, but in the eyes of the Buddhist Sect, he was the perfect chicken to kill to scare the monkeys.
"They did figure out a good strategy," Lin Fang sneered.
"But it seems like it’s only the idea of a part of them. I don’t see any ascetic monks among the Buddhist Sect, which probably means they don’t quite agree with this action." White Dragon, after all, had bloodline memories, thus he casually mentioned some hidden matters of the Three Realms.
"This is actually good for us, we can take the chance to fish in troubled waters."
Moreover, these Buddhist Soldiers are really something, natural believers, the power of faith they provide is far superior to others. In the past, Mount Ling would never let out so many Buddhist Soldiers. Lin Fang should take this opportunity to make a good fortune.
So, from that day on, at the battlefield at the edge of Zhilei Mountain, squads of Buddhist Soldiers began disappearing mysteriously, without any trace of battle, as if they vanished into thin air.
"How many waves has it been already?" a Buddhist Sect Vajra said with a furious gaze.
"The fourth wave," the leading Arhat said with some annoyance as he rubbed his head.
"If we can’t find the culprit behind the death of so many Buddhist Soldiers, when the Spirit Mountain Buddha asks for an explanation, we won’t be able to bear the responsibility," the Vajra said with deep concern.
Logically, Buddhist Soldiers are immortal; they should be reborn in the Eight Treasures Merit Pool after death. However, such large-scale deaths would definitely provoke anger from above.
After all, Buddhist Soldiers aren’t an inexhaustible resource. Every rebirth consumes the power of faith accumulated in the Eight Treasures Merit Pool.
"We can’t keep going like this, order the Buddhist Soldiers to retreat, take a full defensive position. We don’t move out until we catch the person behind the scenes," the Arhat decided quickly and began issuing orders.
The same situation occurred in several other camps as well. Everybody started noticing that something was off.
Normally, the Demon Clan wouldn’t target Buddhist Soldiers. After all, being indestructible and leaving no corpse behind upon death, they held no value for the Demon Clan, which would be just a waste of their power.
But now there seemed to be an existence specifically targeting Buddhist Soldiers. What was key was that, although the Buddhist Soldiers were not very powerful, they were tough and fearless, yet there was not a single trace of battle at the scene. Such eerie tactics were terrifying.
For a time, the Buddhist camp was filled with an atmosphere of great anxiety and fear, and they even started to adopt a defensive strategy, no longer taking the initiative.
Lin Fang, with his own power, made the Buddhist Sect hesitant to show themselves. Such a military exploit, once it spread back to Zhilei Mountain, left all Demon Kings dumbfounded.
Supreme Sage Bull Demon King, however, laughed heartily, thoroughly enjoying a jar of fine wine. He laughed and said, "He really is formidable. With so many Buddhist Soldiers killed, I bet just the cost of reviving them will cause the Buddhist Sect a good deal of pain."
"The King doesn’t know who took action, such might," Jade-faced Princess said as she massaged the old bull’s back, smiling and asking.
Supreme Sage Bull Demon King simply smiled and said, "You don’t have to know about that. He doesn’t wish for his name to be known, and I won’t force it. After all, he has hit the Buddhist Sect where it hurts, and I doubt they’ll let it go easily."
"This concubine is just curious who the expert is that took action. I’ve heard that at the places where those Buddhist Soldiers disappeared, there’s not a single trace of battle, very strange indeed," Jade-faced Princess said with a playful glint in her eyes, laughing as she spoke.
Supreme Sage Bull Demon King, however, remained silent, not willing to reveal any information about Lin Fang under any circumstances. After all, Lin Fang was now his strong support. Offending him over this would not be worth it.
Jade-faced Princess, however, had a hunch. Given that she roughly knew the few experts under the old bull’s command and that none seemed capable of this feat, she figured it could only be that Fellow Taoist Lin Fang mentioned by their Great King before.
