Chapter 187 - 172: The Little Girl
At this moment, how could he not realize that he had encountered someone notorious for pretending to be a pig in order to eat tigers?
In his heart, he couldn’t help but slander, "You high-level characters are really boring, disliking the idea of being strong and instead choosing to disguise yourselves as weaklings. Isn’t this just asking for our lives?"
Lin Fang had no idea what was going on in the guy’s head, or else he would have certainly rewarded him with a clump of Samadhi True Fire to give him a taste of it.
With just a thought from him, a band of robbers vanished without a trace, and within the Pagoda Space, the Beast of Calamity now had some more food.
It ate the incoming delicacies with great delight, then fell into a new sleep. It had grown accustomed to life here and no longer thought about escaping, instead diligently beginning to guard this land. Any creature daring to step foot in its territory would become its food.
In Lin Fang’s mansion, the Little Fox sensed someone entering but didn’t discover any figures.
"Eh! It seems like someone just came in."
Several little ones gathered around a glowing Crystal Stone, an object Lin Fang had designed based on the Treasure Ship’s control center, a core capable of monitoring this space.
When the little monsters had nothing to do, they would gather around the Crystal Stone, tirelessly peeking at various scenes within the space.
"It must be an enemy that has come in. Look towards the north!" Bashan Tiger exclaimed, jumping to his feet.
No sooner had he spoken than the image of the Beast of Calamity feasting appeared on the Crystal Stone.
Sensing they were being watched, the Beast of Calamity, which was enjoying its meal, looked up in confusion, its fierce countenance startling the little ones spying on it.
"What the hell is that thing?" A small figure fluttered in the air, a look of fear spreading across its face.
Even though they were only observing from afar through the Crystal Stone, the Tree Demon Spirit could still feel a dense aura of destruction emanating from the Beast of Calamity, an energy greatly disliked by nature.
"The Beast of Calamity, it is said to have been created by a Demon King and was captured by the boss. Now, it’s the prison guard of the north," the Little Fox said with a smile.
He genuinely liked this newly joined Tree Demon Spirit; after all, she radiated a rich life force, which boosted the practice of cultivation speed for those around her considerably.
"Haha, the scaredy-cat got freaked out, didn’t you!" Bashan Tiger wasn’t nearly as friendly, immediately starting to tease.
Ever since he discovered this little one dared to speak irreverently to their boss, he just couldn’t look at the little one favorably and was always looking for opportunities to bully him.
"Hmph, just wait. One day I’ll make you see!" the Tree Demon Spirit, not willing to be mocked by Bashan Tiger, angrily brandished the Wooden Bow in his hand.
Having said his piece, he ignored the annoying Bashan Tiger and flew to the plaza to find You Lan for archery practice. Once he mastered Divine Archery, the first thing he would do was sort out Bashan Tiger and fix his foul mouth.
Watching the little one’s retreating back, the Little Fox said disapprovingly to Bashan Tiger, "Why are you provoking him again? He’s just joined us; you shouldn’t treat him like that."
Bashan Tiger, unconcerned, replied, "What’s the big deal? It’s his fault for being disrespectful to the boss. It’s good that I wasn’t there at the time; otherwise, I would have definitely taught him a lesson."
"Yeah, keep thinking you’re all that for now. This little one has been practicing really hard lately. Plus, he’s got Hu Er and You Lan helping him. It probably won’t be long before he gets much stronger, and then it’ll be embarrassing for you if you can’t beat him," Yi Hailong added coolly from the side.
"Just him, this little runt? Not to brag, but I could take on ten of him," Bashan Tiger boasted.
Although he said that, Bashan Tiger still glanced nervously in the direction of the plaza, thinking to himself, "Should I also step up my practice of cultivation? Otherwise, if I really get beaten by this guy, it would be too embarrassing."
So he hurried toward the plaza and began a new day of cultivation.
Outside, Lin Fang, after dealing with those monstrous beings from the great calamity, started to inspect his spoils of war.
These moments were always the happiest for him, even though each time the gains were modest. After all, with his current strength and taste, ordinary items were no better than junk to him.
But the joy of rummaging through garbage always exceeded others’ expectations.
He began rummaging through the bandits’ lair, piling up countless miscellaneous items.
However, it turned out that the group was really poor; there were hardly any valuable items in the entire camp. Probably the best things were the clothes they wore on their bodies.
"Who’s there?" Just as Lin Fang was immersed in the joy of rummaging through garbage, he suddenly felt some movement and immediately shouted.
No sooner had he spoken, than a little girl’s head popped out from a pile of debris.
She was a very pretty little girl, fair and tender-skinned, with two buns tied on her head. But her fair face was full of dust now, and she was dressed in tattered clothes.
Seeing Lin Fang, her face showed a look of fear.
"Little one, where are you from?" Lin Fang asked with a smile, feeling that there was something off about this little girl, although he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
The little girl shook her head and didn’t answer Lin Fang’s question, but her eyes were filled with a wary expression.
Lin Fang slowly moved forward, sizing her up. No matter how he looked at her, she seemed to be a normal little girl. The faint Demon Qi indicated she was a monster, but she didn’t have any animal features that would reveal her race.
"What’s your name?" Lin Fang continued to ask.
But the little girl still shook her head.
"Well, it seems she must be mute," Lin Fang said with a laugh, shaking his head. He felt he was just being paranoid because of those powers in the Three Realms.
So he took out some food, placed it beside the little girl, and turned to leave.
Glancing out of the corner of his eye, he saw the little girl start to gobble down the food voraciously. It seemed she hadn’t had a full meal in a long time, and this eased his vigilance.
But he’d only gone a few steps when he realized the little girl was actually following him, maintaining a cautious distance.
Every time Lin Fang turned around, the little girl would hide herself in fear, but as soon as Lin Fang turned back again, she would stick out her little head and try to keep up with him as fast as her small legs could carry her.
However, when she popped her head out again this time, she found that the big brother she had followed for a while had disappeared. The little girl pouted and a tear streaked down her cheek.
"Are you planning to follow me all the time?" Just then, the gentle voice of Lin Fang sounded by her ear. She looked up and saw Lin Fang’s smiling face.
