Chapter 203 - 188: The Palace

~6 min read 1,180 words

All the children showed sad expressions, for they hadn’t seen their parents in a long time.

"Do you want to change your destiny or not," Lu Wenchang said, then felt that his words may have been too complicated for the children to understand.

So he rephrased, "Do you want to prevent this kind of thing from happening?"

A group of children gazed at Lu Wenchang with their bright eyes, vigorously nodding their little heads.

They didn’t want to always face such separations.

"Then follow me and study," Lu Wenchang said with a smile, offering his suggestion.

"Study?"

Clearly, the children didn’t know what studying was, let alone its use.

Lu Wenchang explained patiently, "Studying can give you a strong mind, provide you with the ladder of progress, and help you to more easily recognize the path ahead in this cruel world."

In summary, if you want to change your destiny, you must study.

So, under Lu Wenchang’s persuasion, a group of young Cat Demons followed him, becoming the first disciples of Bailu Academy, the first step for Lu Wenchang in transforming this land.

When he brought the group of little ones to the academy, those who had never traveled far gaped in wonder.

They had never seen such beautiful houses, orderly and neat, as if a different charm resided within them, even the naughtiest few held their breath and behaved extraordinarily well.

The old men following them were also incredulously sizing up the Bailu Academy that had sprung up out of nowhere.

They had lived on this land for a very long time, intimately familiar with every plant and stone here; this place was supposed to be just an ordinary mountain.

But now, a school had settled here without their knowledge.

The busy Monsters in the academy instantly noticed the commotion outside and ran out to see because these were Bailu Academy’s very first students.

When visions of the adorable little kittens filled their view, many Monsters revealed joyful smiles.

No matter the Race, children represented hope. Therefore, seeing these innocent and cute Little Monsters, every Demon King beamed with a smile that came from the heart.

However, this scene deeply startled the old men who had come along, unaware of the children’s naivety.

In his youth, he had ventured out of these mountains and seen the vast expanse of Heaven and Earth.

He could keenly sense that the demonic power emanating from these appearing Monsters was astonishingly strong.

It was like traversing plains to see mountains, and crossing mountains to behold the wide and boundless sea.

Such a presence he had only seen in a very few Demon Kings when he traveled in his youth, yet now so many appeared before him.

"Wow, Bashan Tiger, are these your kin?" a voice rose in the sky.

A Tree Demon Spirit wearing a small green outfit, wooden bow in hand, merrily danced in the air, though the tone sounded exceedingly presumptuous.

"Not at all, I am a Bashan Tiger, not a cat," Bashan Tiger retorted with some annoyance, even though he thought these Cat Demons in front of him looked quite similar to himself.

But the power of his bloodline told him that he and they were not of the same race.

The crowd was drawn to the voice of the Bashan Tiger, and only then did the newly arrived Cat Demons notice that there was a small figure like the Bashan Tiger among them.

However, compared to the Cat Demons’ distress, the Bashan Tiger seemed very lively, wearing a very refined leather armor, with a curved blade at his waist and a strange hat on his head that looked somewhat nice.

"Wow, big brother, you look so cool," one of the children exclaimed in admiration.

The appearance of the Bashan Tiger immediately caught the attention of the little ones, as he still looked very much like a Cat Demon, despite his vehement denials.

Out of a sense of kinship with their race, the little demons excitedly ran to the Bashan Tiger’s side, curiously examining his attire.

This greatly satisfied the Bashan Tiger’s vanity, and he stood there somewhat proudly among the group of children, basking in their envious gazes and tones.

"Don’t touch the curved blade; it’s very sharp," he said, gently pushing away the hands of a few mischievous kids who were secretly reaching out to touch the curved blade at his waist.

This weapon was personally forged by Lin Fang, extremely sharp, and the little ones, not knowing the danger, could easily hurt themselves with it.

"Alright, kids, from now on, this will be your home, and you will learn and grow here. I hope you won’t waste this great opportunity and will work hard to learn and grow. You will be the hope of the Demon Clan," Lu Wenchang clapped his hands and said, briefly welcoming the arrival of the little ones.

As the children entered the academy excitedly, searching for their own beds, Lu Wenchang was searching for Lin Fang.

"Brother Lin, there’s something else I hope you can help me with," Lu Wenchang said with a solemn bow.

"What is it?"

Lu Wenchang pointed to the children running around in the academy and then mentioned the matter of the Flying Sky Great King.

"Their parents have all been captured by the Monster known as the Flying Sky Great King to build his palace. The Cat Demons are naturally weak, and I’m afraid they won’t make it back."

Lin Fang stood up and said, "I happen to have some spare time; let me go and take a look."

Without waiting for Lu Wenchang’s gratitude, Lin Fang rose on a cloud and flew toward the direction of the Flying Sky Great King.

After flying for a while, he indeed saw a half-finished palace situated on a high mountain not far away.

The palace was made of stone and carved with all kinds of patterns, but unfortunately, these patterns seemed crude and hardly beautiful.

But this was a common phenomenon in Luzhou in the North; the Demon Kings native to the area were like bandit chieftains, and one couldn’t expect them to build any sort of grand palaces.

To them, who were poor in experience, knowing what a palace was, was rare.

In Lin Fang’s view, the entire forest mountain was filled with working Monsters, and a significant portion was composed of weaker Demon Clan members.

Some burly Monsters with strong Demonic Power were holding whips, supervising the work of the weaker ones, whipping them from time to time.

The whips traced phantom lines in the air, landing on the sad little demons, causing their skin to split and flesh to burst open in an instant.

In the air echoed their fierce voices: "Work faster, if you delay the work, I’ll flay you alive."

The words were filled with cruelty and brutality, frightening the working demons into speeding up their efforts.

Just then, a Cat Demon in tattered clothes and emaciated appeared to stumble and fell to the ground, the rock he had been carrying slowly rolling away.
