Chapter 256 - 214: Return_2
"That day Old Six was the first to stand and swear an oath, who would have thought he was actually a spy."
"Hmph, he must have had the Heaven-Deceiving Mirror from the Heavenly Court in his hands, which is why he was fearless and probably the first to stand up to clear his own suspicions."
Several Great Saints spoke all at once, while the monsters around them were as if in mourning for their deceased mothers. Now that the Demon Emperor’s resurrection plan had been disrupted and for the sake of all living beings in Luzhou in the North, His Majesty had no choice but to sacrifice himself, losing any chance of resurrection forever.
In an instant, they lost their life’s purpose. After all, everyone here had gathered with the dream of reviving the Demon Court.
Throughout countless ages, they had faced slaughter and betrayal, living precarious lives from day to day. But these hardships did not break them; instead, they forged their will, turning them into indestructible warriors.
Because they always firmly believed that His Majesty the Demon Emperor would surely return, leading them back to the pinnacle.
The revival of the Demon Clan was bound to be realized by their hands; it was this very dream that enabled them to persevere in such a cruel world until now.
But now, the Demon Emperor’s resurrection had failed, and there might not be a second chance.
They felt as though their faith had collapsed in an instant. They looked at each other in confusion, seeing the lost and helpless look in each other’s eyes.
For a time, no one spoke, and the atmosphere became heavy.
Just then, the Demon Master slowly stepped forward, scanned the crowd, and asked with a smile, "What’s wrong? Have you all lost heart?"
"Demon Master!" Many monsters stood up excitedly. Aside from the Demon Emperor, this old man was the flagbearer in the hearts of these monsters. As long as he was there, they would not shrink back.
"Everyone, please sit. I know that because of the recent event, everyone is feeling very down, and some even feel disheartened and are ready to retire and live out the rest of their days, right?"
The Demon Master surveyed the crowd with a sharp gaze. Many hung their heads guiltily because what he said was indeed what they were thinking.
"It’s not surprising to have such thoughts, after all, everyone knows that His Majesty failed to resurrect this time due to the spy, and it seems that no one is there to carry the banner for our Demon Clan."
"You being able to stay here already moves me greatly, so don’t feel guilty."
The Demon Master’s words moved some to the brink of tears. Indeed, it was the cause they had fought for all their lives. Many present had lost their family and friends for this ideal.
Throughout countless years, they had witnessed too much death and despair; it can be said that every person who persisted until now is a hero of unyielding character.
And the affirmation from the Demon Master brought some consolation to their hearts, after all, no one wants their efforts to end up being mere fantasy.
"Demon Master, we should take the initiative to strike and show the Heavenly Court a bit of color," the Flood Dragon Demon King suddenly stood up and said.
His eyes were slightly red, filled with anger. Clearly, the Heavenly Court’s actions had completely infuriated this Demon King, and he had decided to cause havoc at all costs.
"Just like Seventh did, we should turn that decrepit Heavenly Court upside down," The Great Saint who moves mountains also echoed.
They knew that they needed a victory to rally the people, or else the last seeds of the Demon Court might very well be extinguished here.
This proposal quickly gained the support of many monsters. They needed to vent the frustration in their hearts, and even in the face of death, they wanted to hit back hard at the Heavenly Court.
The Demon Master quietly watched as passions flared but said nothing more, letting them vent, because he knew that everyone had been living under too much pressure lately.
If it weren’t for the great dream of reviving the Demon Clan ahead of them, these people might become vindictive threats to society.
When everyone gradually emerged from this emotional state, the Demon Master then slowly said, "What I have to tell you is that His Majesty has returned!"
The Demon Master’s aged voice was not very loud, but it rendered the area silent as a graveyard.
Everyone looked at the elder standing at the highest point with disbelief in their eyes, feeling as if they were experiencing auditory hallucinations.
"Demon Master, are you saying His Majesty has returned?" the Flood Dragon Demon King cautiously inquired, fearing it was just an illusion; after all, the commotion of that day was vivid in the minds of all living beings across the Three Realms.
His Majesty’s resurrection attempt had failed, turning into a shower of light that fell across Luzhou in the North.
"Why would I deceive you? His Majesty had prepared for this. The spectacle that took place was nothing but a means to flush out the traitors hiding in the shadows!" the Demon Master said with a laugh.
Then his voice grew impassioned, "All my children, our waiting has not been in vain. After countless years, our king has returned, and he will lead us to regain our glory, and then we shall claim our blood debt from that shameless Heavenly Court."
These words sent all the monsters into an ecstatic frenzy, cheering wildly. After so many years, they had steadfastly waited, and now, finally, the outcome had arrived; His Majesty had returned, their king had returned.
Those who had once looked down upon them, those butchers, would soon face their revenge—were they prepared?
The Demon Master watched the scene, his eyes quietly glistening with tears; the young ones had waited so long, and had he not waited just as much?
Bearing immense pressure, the Demon Master, with faltering steps, had sustained the crumbling Heavenly Court, traversing the most helpless and dark path, and now, at last, dawn had come.
On the aged face of the old man, a smile finally blossomed, and the deep wrinkles carved by the years seemed to smooth out.
"Come, children, let’s go to welcome back our king, our His Majesty’s return!"
After shouting this, the Demon Master strode out eagerly; he could hardly wait to see his sovereign, the person who had bestowed peerless honour upon him and the Demon Clan.
Meanwhile, Lin Fang and Feng Jiu were slowly walking along the grand avenue of the Demon Court. The power of time had left the once-magnificent Demon Court in ruins.
The Demon Masters, constantly in hiding, had neither the energy nor the time to repair this once-glorious palace.
The tumult of the final battle had turned the already-majestic palace into rubble, and Feng Jiu stared blankly at the ruins, her rage steadily mounting.
Lin Fang, standing beside her, could feel the fury powerful enough to destroy Heaven and Earth, and he hurriedly offered consolation, "Calm down, the old must make way for the new; think of it as the Heavenly Court giving you a free demolition."
Perhaps the words of Lin Fang had an effect, or maybe Feng Jiu had consoled herself; either way, the sudden surge of anger was buried deep within her heart.
"This was once my palace!" Feng Jiu pointed at the tall ruins ahead and said.
"That was our council hall, where the big decisions of the Demon Clan were made. It used to be so majestic that everyone who stepped into the hall was overwhelmed by it, it’s just a pity that now there is nothing left." Feng Jiu said with a sigh.
Lin Fang looked at the broken walls, trying hard to imagine what the great hall had once been like, but found it was too thoroughly destroyed to recreate the scene as it once was.
"You promised me," Feng Jiu suddenly turned and said to Lin Fang, "to rebuild an even more magnificent Demon Court for me!"
"Ah, what did I promise?" Lin Fang asked in confusion, he was merely comforting Feng Jiu, so how did it become his job to rebuild the Demon Court for her?
"Just now, you said, the old must go for the new to come." Feng Jiu stated succinctly.
Lin Fang wanted to immediately object; that wasn’t what he meant at all, and besides, nowhere in that saying was there any promise to rebuild the Demon Court.
However, a clamor of noise soon came from afar, interrupting Lin Fang’s words.
