Chapter 268 - 222 Settling In
The fierce fire consumed his body while his face looked so peaceful, as if he were asleep amidst the flames.
Surrounding him was a group of ragged monsters, who at this moment knelt on the ground in confusion, watching the old man being gradually devoured by the fierce flames, feeling very bewildered.
Although they constantly complained about the Clan Leader’s old-fashioned ways, making them stay in this desolate place,
it was also because of the existence of the old Clan Leader that they had avoided many risks and had survived strongly from the destruction of the Demon Court to the present.
Now that this wise and enlightened elder had passed away, these people suddenly lost their direction.
Only then did they realize how important this man, whom they had constantly complained about, truly was to their tribe.
The old man’s son knelt at the forefront of the crowd, lowering his proud head, tears covering his face; from now on, the man who had always been instructing him had completely left this world.
He was entirely alone; his father had stood before him like a great mountain, sheltering him from the wind and rain. Although he had rebelliously thought that his father blocked his view of the world, he now understood his father’s intentions.
Now that the great mountain had suddenly collapsed, no one would shelter him from the elements in the years to come.
Watching his father’s body gradually turn to ashes, he slowly stepped forward, ignoring the scorching heat, and began to carefully collect the ashes into a clay pot.
"It was my father’s last wish to have his ashes placed in the Demon Court," he said, handing over the ashes to Feng Jiu, his eyes still filled with unease.
From his father’s mouth, he already knew the identity of the person before him, the demon emperor revered throughout Luzhou in the North.
Even with mental preparation, facing such a powerful figure, he still couldn’t compose himself.
"His last wish will certainly be fulfilled, but you must deliver it personally. I plan to take you all there as a form of compensation; I can see that he hoped I would look after you," Feng Jiu said softly.
Although the old man had not expressed it, Feng Jiu had seen the pleading look in his eyes.
After Lin Fang had taken everyone into his small world, the sight before them took them by surprise.
Compared to the barren land outside, the soil in the small world was truly fertile. An older monster pinched a handful of soil and remarked emotionally, "What a wonderful place this is, anything could grow in this soil."
Struggling to survive in harsh conditions, they had grown accustomed to living on barren land; suddenly seeing such fertile earth left them somewhat incredulous for a moment.
"Is this the Demon Court?" a monster muttered to itself.
They had heard too many stories about the Demon Court from childhood to adulthood; the deceased old man had continuously told them about the past glory of the Demon Court.
In the old man’s words, the Demon Court was a beautiful place where they didn’t have to worry about hunger or disease, and every monster lived boldly and proudly.
They had fantasized about such a world numerous times, yet had never seen it with their own eyes, so much so that many thought the Clan Leader was merely boasting.
Now, as such a world appeared before them, they realized that the Clan Leader had not lied; the Demon Court was indeed as he had described.
Lin Fang and Feng Jiu led the way and soon saw the soaring Tree of Stars, its branches strewn with flecks of starlight.
Living in the remote and desolate mountains, they had never seen such a divine object, and they couldn’t help but gape in awe.
Eventually, all the Monsters were settled next to the Demon Court, where they could easily survive in the soil here, no longer having to live a precarious existence.
And a burly Monster carefully held his father’s ashes as he slowly approached the base of the Starry Sky Tree, where his father would finally rest.
Countless monsters from the Demon Court rushed to the scene. The old man’s name had been significant in the Demon Court, regarded by many as a future great figure; unexpectedly, after not hearing from him for years, they now saw him only in death.
"Ah, I still remember his youthful vigor, so spirited. Night after night, I always wondered if one day he would suddenly stand forth, bear the Demon Clan’s banner, and declare to the world that the Demon Court was not yet vanquished," the Demon Master said with a sigh.
This was the successor he had placed great hopes on, who should have lived a resounding life.
"It was Black Robe, that traitor, who found him. To secure the Treasure, Black Robe destroyed his body and Primordial Spirit. It’s a miracle he lived until today," Feng Jiu said flatly, yet everyone could hear the suppressed anger in her tone.
With that, Feng Jiu took out a red Treasure Bead and softly chanted an Incantation. Countless rare treasures piled up at the base of the Tree of Stars. These had all been treasures of the Demon Court, safeguarded by the old man until now at the cost of a rising star’s fall.
Looking at the treasures scattered on the ground, the Demon Master’s eyes flickered with a hint of melancholy.
"He did well, he did not disappoint our hopes for him."
"Black Robe, huh, I will make him pay," the Demon Master’s eyes were cold as ice.
Ever since the fall of the Demon Court, Black Robe had killed countless of his promising young kin over the years. If it weren’t for being constantly preoccupied, he would have personally killed this despicable creature.
"What is your name?" the Demon Master suddenly asked the kneeling burly Monster.
"My name is Xing Wu!"
"From today onwards, I am your master. Your father was once a rising star of our Demon Clan. I hope you will not tarnish his reputation," the Demon Master said gravely.
Upon hearing this, Xing Wu quickly knelt and performed the rites of discipleship. Having been through so much, his heart longed to become strong, especially knowing the hardships his father had faced, which fueled the rage burning within him.
This man called Black Robe, he would take this beast’s head to honor his father, to console his spirit in the heavens.
"I know you seek revenge, but Black Robe’s strength is not meager. If you want to defeat him, you will need to put in more effort than others. Do you understand?"
Xing Wu nodded solemnly, indicating he was fully prepared. He had already resolved that, no matter the trials, as long as he could avenge his father, it would be worth it.
"Your father has laid a great foundation for you. Your strength will grow faster than you can imagine. As long as you are determined, I am confident you can kill Black Robe," the Demon Master said with a reassuring nod of the head.
He could see that Xing Wu’s foundation was extraordinarily solid, clearly having been well-trained under his father’s guidance.
