Chapter 277 - 231 Eastern Land
At Two Realms Mountain, a man and a woman were leisurely strolling through the woods.
It was the peak of summer, the trees lush and rich, all things blooming vibrantly, with unknown wildflowers blossoming among the thick grass, decorating the mountain forests.
Lin Fang gently lifted his head and pointed towards a distant peak, "Over there is the Two Realms Mountain. Once we pass it, we’ll reach the Eastern Land."
Since traversing to this world, Lin Fang had been constantly on the move, yet he had never had the chance to visit the legendary Great Tang of the Eastern Land and experience its elegance.
"The Great Tang of the Eastern Land?" Feng Jiu murmured to herself.
Her heart was filled with curiosity about this most glorious realm of the Human Clan. Ever since she glimpsed the prosperity of the Mortal World, she gained a much deeper understanding of humankind.
This was a race brimming with creativity, perhaps due to their fleeting lifespans, the brilliance of their wisdom shone so brightly that even she felt dazzled by it.
Feng Jiu had a much deeper understanding of her own failures.
The mountain range of Two Realms Mountain stretched for thousands of miles, dividing the Eastern Land from the outside world, like a giant dragon sprawled upon the earth.
As soon as the two of them entered the territory of Two Realms Mountain, they felt a marvelous aura, invisible and intangible, yet incessantly tugging at people’s hearts and stirring up their desires.
"What is this?" Having been sealed for a long time, Feng Jiu’s era was when the Human Clan had just emerged from ignorance and had not yet exploded with such vibrant vitality; thus, she was unfamiliar with this power.
"This is the mundane world filled with desires and distractions, borne from the collective birth of mankind’s emotions and six desires. It’s best at agitating the mind and disturbing one’s peace. It’s for this reason that the cultivators of the Eastern Land often seclude themselves in the mountains and forests, avoiding worldly affairs."
"It’s not that they are unwilling, but they cannot. If they live in the Mortal World for too long, a single misstep could cause them to fall into the emotions and six desires, from which it is hard to extricate themselves."
Lin Fang explained the horrors of the mundane world filled with desires and distractions in detail, but for the two of them, such power was still unable to disturb their peace of mind.
Once they passed Two Realms Mountain, the signs of human habitation gradually increased.
Compared to Xiniu Continent with its rich Buddhist aura, the people of the Eastern Land seemed more self-reliant, exuding an aura of vitality and an upward striving spirit.
On the road, travelers were endless, many merchants from the West entering the boundaries of the Eastern Land to trade their goods.
They varied in shape and their skin tones were different; there were even some odd-looking characters mingling among them, but strangely, the people around did not find it odd, as if they had grown used to such sights.
"Truly the temperament of a great nation!" Lin Fang sighed uncontrollably.
Such a capacity for inclusiveness is only possible in the Great Tang, this glorious empire.
Unlike Lin Fang’s focus, Feng Jiu also looked around, but her attention was more on divine spirits and the mundane world filled with desires and distractions.
No sooner had she entered the boundaries of the Eastern Land than, besides the enchanting mundane world filled with desires and distractions, an invisible pressure descended upon her, seemingly suppressing her.
This also made Feng Jiu very curious; after all, she was a Demon Emperor, an existence that roamed the Three Realms, and there was no kind of power she hadn’t seen.
But today, as she stepped into the Eastern Land, whether it was the mundane world filled with desires and distractions or the mysterious power that appeared later, both surpassed her understanding, giving her a feeling of broadening her horizons,
"What an interesting place!" Feng Jiu murmured to herself.
The two walked slowly on the main road, just like an ordinary couple.
Since it was a bustling merchants’ road, the local bandits had all been wiped out by the soldiers, and Lin Fang and his companion traveled with remarkable ease, encountering no trouble at all.
It wasn’t until they reached the city at the border that Feng Jiu slowly said, "The cities of the Human Clan are indeed very different from ours."
Compared to cities built by monsters, the cities of the Human Clan were more refined, more functional, and every detail was the result of careful consideration.
Unlike the monsters’ way of building cities, which was whimsical, paying no heed to practicality, this might be another difference between the two races.
As Feng Jiu entered the city, she looked around with the curiosity of a child, much like a young lass who had never seen the world before.
"What a lovely little lady!" A frivolous voice rang out near Lin Fang and his companion.
Turning, they saw a pale-faced man in white, with thick dark circles under his eyes, fanning himself and gazing at Feng Jiu with a look of infatuation.
Lin Fang was at a loss for words; he had finally understood deeply what a ’beauty brings trouble.’ They had agreed to pose as ordinary people to have a good look at the Eastern Land, but they had barely entered the city when Feng Jiu’s appearance attracted unwanted attention.
Soon, the man’s servants had surrounded them both.
"Ma Qing, here you are bullying the weak again!" A robust voice boomed, and a tall and burly man with a Treasure Blade walked over.
His skin was dark and roughened from being exposed to the wind and sand for a long time.
"Lord Ma is blind to have you as a son. Today, if you dare to harass a respectable woman here, my blade will have no mercy for you," the man said as he drew his bright blade, which shone dazzlingly under the sunlight.
"Hmph, not you again, you stinking beggar!" Ma Qing cursed angrily, but his arrogant demeanor diminished considerably, knowing well that the man before him would truly take action.
However, to give up on a beauty like Feng Jiu so easily was something he was reluctant to do, so he said to Lin Fang and his companion, "Little lady, you won’t escape from the palm of my hand."
After saying this, he glared hatefully at the man and then led his followers away in a defeated manner.
Seeing this, the man laughed heartily, "What a pus-filled wart indeed!"
"You two had better leave the city early. This kid won’t rest until he gets his way, and I have military duties outside the city—I’m sure he’ll make a move on you," he warned.
"Thank you for the heads-up, General. We will be careful," Lin Fang said with a smile of gratitude as he and Feng Jiu walked away slowly.
"Guess what means he will resort to in order to deal with us?" Feng Jiu asked Lin Fang with a smile.
"Nothing but abduction, I presume. What can you expect from such a spoiled brat?" Lin Fang said with some disdain.
"Hee hee, if he dares to come tonight, I’ll give him a surprise," Feng Jiu’s eyes spun mischievously, a sly smile spread across her face, clearly scheming something.
As they spoke, Lin Fang casually looked back and saw a man sneaking behind them, a smile curling up at the corner of his mouth.
Meanwhile, in a mansion within the city, Ma Qing was listening to a man speak—it was the very man who had been trailing Lin Fang.
"Are you sure you saw everything clearly?" Ma Qing asked with a steely voice.
"Young master, rest assured, I saw everything perfectly clear," the man said with absolute certainty.
"Good, here is your reward. Keep a close watch on them. You’ll get your share once the job is done."
