Chapter 284 - 238 Internal Strife
Little Feng also laughed, "He probably thinks that His Majesty has fallen, and that no one from the Demon Clan can threaten him anymore, which is why he’s acting so ostentatiously."
"If he really acted like he used to, he would probably have hidden himself in some corner by now, making him even harder for us to find."
The mere thought of being tormented by his spell to the point of wishing for death filled Little Feng’s face with loathing.
Xing Wu had gone through much suffering for this day, and Little Feng had endured no small amount of hardship either, even having to risk awakening his bloodline due to Black Robe’s spell, nearly leading to his death.
Although it was a blessing in disguise, his hatred for Black Robe hadn’t diminished one bit.
"We must strike with certainty this time, otherwise, with that old thing’s cunning nature, he will hide in some unknown place, and finding him then would be harder than reaching the skies," Xing Wu said gravely.
Although his heart was filled with flames of hatred, he appeared very calm at that moment, for after waiting so long for this day, he didn’t mind waiting a little bit longer.
"When do we make our move?" Little Feng asked.
After all, Xing Wu was older, and as the leader of his clan, he always handled important matters with more stability, so he naturally took charge of this operation.
"After nightfall, when he lets his guard down, then we’ll make our move. Otherwise, startled prey might escape, and it would be troublesome if that old thing got away."
The two waited silently in the woods, and soon night fell, a silver moon rising slowly, casting its silvery glow.
Within the mountain’s Cave Mansion, lights began to shine, looking extraordinarily beautiful.
Xing Wu and Little Feng walked in the moonlight, heading towards the peak.
"That Rat Demon is detestable, bolstered by his bootlicking, he even dares to humiliate me like this," an indignant voice rose in the mountain, causing them both to halt their steps.
"Exactly, what is he? Just because he somehow won the King’s favor, he’s become too arrogant to see his own limits. Our brothers have fought and struggled, yet we’re less than his sycophancy."
"Damn it, I can’t swallow this insult."
"What, you want to kill him? Don’t forget he’s the King’s favorite. If you kill him, the King will not let us off easily."
"Big Brother, who said it’s just the two of us? That vermin was so smug today, reducing us to nothing, and the brothers have long been holding back a fire. Just a little stirring, and in the heat of the moment, it wouldn’t be strange if that vermin ends up dead by accident."
"Don’t meddle in this matter; our King is not easy to fool. By then, we might not even have a place to be buried."
"There’ll be no punishment for a crowd’s doing. Besides, that vermin brought in several beauties today. The King is likely still in his tender land. By the time he realizes what’s happening, we’ll have already taken care of the vermin, and surely the King won’t punish us too harshly."
These words clearly enticed the Monster facing them.
The thought of the Rat Demon’s actions that day ignited a nameless rage; even as a prominent figure among the Monsters of the area, to suffer such humiliation by a mere Rat Demon was intolerable.
Initially, there was some fear of Black Robe’s authority, but now that had been stirred, how could they not agree?
Basically, since Black Robe had only recently claimed kingship, his underlings, the Little Monsters, had not yet jelled together. Now, facing Rat Demon, someone of little strength who only knew how to flatter, naturally aroused their anger.
Two monsters discussed their plans and then excitedly set out to consult with others, foreseeing an internal conflict about to unfold atop this mountain.
Xing Wu and Little Feng listened from behind, dumbfounded, never having expected such an enthralling drama on such a modest peak. They were also curious about the ’rat generation’ the two monsters referred to, wondering what sort of impressive figure could achieve this.
"Big Brother Xing, heaven truly sides with us. The infighting among these little demons has saved us so much effort, sparing us the trouble when he finally sends the little monsters to their deaths, only to run away himself," Little Feng said with a laugh.
He hadn’t anticipated this stroke of luck, for Black Robe was extremely good at escaping; if he were truly set on fleeing, capturing him wouldn’t be easy.
Now that the little demons were in disarray, it was a prime opportunity to act.
"Their own karma is inescapable. Black Robe has done much evil, and now retribution has arrived," Xing Wu said, his lips curving into a cold smirk, his gaze as piercing as a blade.
When the two men nonchalantly arrived at the entrance to the Cave Mansion, the internal strife was on the verge of erupting.
The Rat Demon, seeing the angry approach of the little monsters, flashed a hint of fear across his face. He fought the impulse to kneel, raising his voice as he shouted, "Do you dare to rebel, disturbing the great king’s rest at such a time?"
"We certainly don’t wish to disturb the great king, we just want some justice from you," someone in the crowd yelled.
"Restructuring the army was the great king’s command. Are you asking the great king to retract his order?" the Rat Demon quickly found an angle to exploit, instantly pinning a severe accusation on them to suppress everyone.
His antics reminded Little Feng, hiding in the shadows, of a story Lin Fang once told: The fox borrows the tiger’s might.
Watching the crowd gradually settle down, a smirk of triumph flickered across the Rat Demon’s face, knowing that merely invoking the great king would instantly cow these commoners.
Feigning ferocity, he swept his gaze around before saying, "Disperse quickly. If you disturb the great king, you won’t be able to bear the consequences."
"Kill this bastard!" Suddenly, a stone struck the Rat Demon’s face, blood gushing forth immediately.
The Rat Demon seemed not to have anticipated someone actually daring to attack him at this moment, and the pain in his head drove him to madness.
"A bunch of bastards, daring to raise your hand against me, none of you will leave this place alive tonight," he declared.
Upon hearing his words, some monsters clenched their teeth and shouted, "This damned creature grovels and flatters to gain the great king’s favor. If he slanders us in front of the great king, we’d all face certain death. Better to slay him now. Seeing our numbers, the great king surely won’t punish us."
With these words, all the monsters revealed a cruel smile, and the Rat Demon realized that they were indeed after his life.
"You dare—kill them for me!"
Having no choice, the Rat Demon had to command his monsters, and a fierce battle broke out at the entrance to the Cave Mansion.
Yet strangely, the commotion did not awaken Black Robe, who lay sleeping within; otherwise, he should have already come out to settle the aftermath.
The combatants, however, were too overwhelmed by anger to notice anything amiss.
Little Feng played with the pebble in his hand, a smile creeping onto his face. That’s right, it was he who had secretly thrown the stone at the Rat Demon, intending to fully fan the flames of conflict. To ensure success, he had even set up a barrier to keep the noise from waking Black Robe.
