Chapter 291 - 242 The Curtain Rises
The group of kids, hearing that the two were there to look for Mr. Lin, became incredibly excited and started hopping and jumping ahead, leading the way. Even the surrounding people, upon hearing this, became friendlier.
Xing Wu and Little Feng exchanged glances, only then realizing that Mr. Lin seemed to hold a high reputation here.
Guided by the children, they arrived at the gate of a modest yard.
Peering through the fence that formed the yard’s wall, they could faintly make out the scene within.
A plainly dressed woman was feeding a flock of chickens with a joyful laugh, chatting from time to time with a young man who lay on a rocking chair beside her, engrossed in a book, occasionally looking up to talk to her.
Such a heartwarming scene stunned Xing Wu and Little Feng. After all, that woman was none other than the Demon Emperor.
Commanding respect throughout the Three Realms, contending with the Heavenly Court, the ruler of the Demon Clan had never before shown such a demeanor.
"Since you’re here, come in, what are you skulking around outside for!" came the clear voice of Lin Fang, prompting the two peeping Toms to sheepishly enter the gate.
"Sir and Her Majesty seem to be quite at ease!" Little Feng quickly said with a flattering laugh.
"Is your business dealt with?" Lin Fang asked with a smile, setting his book aside.
Little Feng nodded, "It’s done, our great vengeance is exacted, and now our hearts and spirits are at ease."
Xing Wu nodded in agreement, almost adding, "Me too."
He felt that Little Feng had spoken his very thoughts. Ever since he had killed Black Robe and avenged his blood feud, he felt a weight lift off his chest, and lately, the mana within his body had grown more active. He even had a premonition that his strength would soon make a considerable leap.
Lin Fang studied the two closely, noting the clarity of their primordial spirits and the lively flow of demon qi within them. Clearly, this journey of revenge had benefited them greatly.
"It seems this journey of revenge has been rather fruitful for you!" Lin Fang asked, intrigued.
"Yes, we nearly didn’t make it back," Little Feng said with a sigh.
The scenario at that time was so perilous, even now it was chilling to recall. The spell Black Robe had learned from who knows where was still terrifying to remember.
Especially that ominous, black aura was like a nightmare, incessantly haunting one’s heart, making one feel a deep revulsion and fear. If not for the fact that Little Feng’s awakened bloodline seemed innately capable of restraining him, they might have been devoured by now, becoming part of his strength.
"Tell me in detail," Lin Fang asked curiously, feeling that there should be some interesting information in their story.
Thus, Little Feng narrated the details of their revenge.
Lin Fang listened attentively. He had originally thought that this act of revenge would be straightforward, given Xing Wu’s initiation into the ancient path of the Witch Clan’s cultivation by the guidance of a Demon Master, and Little Feng’s awakening of a fearsome bloodline, making them formidable even among those in Luzhou in the North.
Yet unexpectedly, together they had nearly been killed by one person, especially the eerie power they encountered, which seemed terrifying, and strangely familiar to Lin Fang.
"That is the power of Gui Xu!" suddenly interjected Feng Jiu.
"Gui Xu, so it was that," Lin Fang mumbled to himself, now understanding the source of this power.
"Sir, what exactly is Gui Xu?"
Standing up and looking toward the sky, Lin Fang spoke softly, "Gui Xu is the end of all things, existing outside the Three Realms, not in any specific place within them, yet always ready to destroy the Three Realms, returning everything to chaos."
"The power of Gui Xu grows with the flourishing prosperity of all things, and then it destroys the world."
After these words, Lin Fang’s face showed a hint of doubt, continuing, "But the power of Gui Xu within the Three Realms had long been suppressed by the Venerated Way of the Three Pure Ones, unable to interfere with reality. So where does this Gui Xu aura on Black Robe come from?"
At that moment, Feng Jiu spoke up, "If I’m not mistaken, the Three Pure Ones are about to leave this world."
"What?" The two were suddenly gaping in surprise.
They felt as though they had stumbled upon some earth-shattering secret, utterly shocked. While the Demon Emperor was well-known within the Demon Clan, the Taoist Masters were renowned throughout the Three Realms; they were the true powerhouses of the world. Information concerning them was undoubtedly some of the most top-secret of the Three Realms, and yet today they had heard news regarding the Three Pure Ones straight from the Emperor’s mouth.
Moreover, "leaving this world" — what did that mean? Could it be that beyond Heaven and Earth, there was another world? At that moment, they felt as though they had been frogs at the bottom of a well, seeing only the small patch of Heaven and Earth before them, occasionally smugly pleased with themselves, not realizing the immensity of the space beyond.
Lost in thought, Lin Fang stood to the side. Compared to Xing Wu and Little Feng’s oblivious ignorance, he was much more familiar with the Taoist Masters.
After all, he was someone who had directly faced the Grand Supreme Elderly Lord, and because of runes and the Path of Artifact Refining, he could be considered half a disciple of the Elderly Lord. The departure of the Three Pure Ones was almost certainly intricately connected with his own transmigration to this world.
"Have they touched upon that realm?" Lin Fang asked, intrigued.
Feng Jiu nodded lightly, her expression complex. She had always considered herself a genius, but even she felt inadequately humble before the Three Pure Ones.
