Chapter 303 - 249: Husband and Wife

Lin Fang nodded slightly, his expression solemn, and the crowd fell silent.

"The heavens are about to change," Lin Fang sighed softly.

He lifted his head as if he could see the undercurrents hidden within the Three Realms, a time of unparalleled chaos was on the verge of arising.

Without the suppression of the most powerful beings, the turmoil this time might spread for a long time, and his group of people were left to wonder where they should go in such a chaotic world.

"His madness has something to do with you, doesn’t it?" Lin Fang asked, turning to Feng Jiu, who stood nearby with a smile on her face.

"Why do you say that?"

"My paper figures are imbued with the Way of Enlightenment Dharma Technique, so naturally, I know such practices involve karma. Only the power of destiny can influence him. I still clearly remember those two mysterious straw men left by that senior," Lin Fang said quietly.

Upon hearing this, Feng Jiu simply spoke softly, "I just gave him an opportunity."

"Opportunity?"

"Yes, an opportunity for revenge," Feng Jiu said, staring at him earnestly.

"You might think I am a cold-hearted person who treats others like chess pieces, but for King Niumo, isn’t this also a sort of liberation? Given your understanding of him, would he willingly become a lapdog for the Buddhist Sect, to be bossed around, if not for such a choice?"

Lin Fang was taken aback; he knew all too well that the look in King Niumo’s eyes when he left spoke volumes—he was ready to stake his own life to drag the Buddhist Sect down with him.

Just as Feng Jiu had said, this was his own choice; to seek revenge against the Buddhist Sect, he had accepted this fate.

"This wasn’t your plan, was it?" Lin Fang suddenly asked.

Feng Jiu didn’t speak, but Lin Fang knew she was acknowledging it tacitly. It must have been almost certainly a scheme laid by the Demon Master, who alone had such acute sensitivity to the trends of the era.

"What’s next, then? What do you plan to do?" Lin Fang was curious about the old man’s next move.

Feng Jiu, however, scoffed and said, "How can we control the great trends of the Three Realms now? What we have done is just like throwing a spark into two piles of dry wood. Whether it turns into a blazing inferno is beyond our control now."

"All we can do now is to wait and see how things unfold," she added.

Although very unwilling to admit it, Feng Jiu had to accept that the Demon Court no longer had the means to compete for dominion over the Three Realms, unless both the Buddhist Sect and the Heavenly Court were both significantly weakened—and then there might be a slight chance for a resurgence.

Her tone was filled with reluctance.

Lin Fang sighed melancholically, "Whether it flourishes or perishes, the common people suffer."

In a small country of Dongsheng Shenzhou, a husband and wife team were busily at work, the air thick with the scent of medicine.

"Lady Wu is truly a living Bodhisattva!" An elderly woman, with a weathered face, took a bowl of medicine from a woman’s hand and exclaimed with a sigh.

The woman across from her was all smiles, gentle and graceful. Though she wore coarse hemp clothes, her innate beauty was undeniable.

Hearing the old woman’s praise, Lady Wu seemed somewhat embarrassed as she modestly responded, "Madam, you flatter me; I’m just doing my humble bit."

After gulping down the medicine, the old woman said, "Lady Wu, you’re being too modest. I tell you, within a hundred miles there’s no second person as kind as you and Physician Ding."

"If it weren’t for your and your husband’s benevolence, this old life of mine would’ve long since been buried in the earth; you are my great benefactors!"

The old woman’s words were echoed by the people around her, as words of admiration filled the air.

Lady Wu seemed to grow even more embarrassed by such praise, not quite knowing how to handle the attention.

Just then, a man emerged from the back room. With handsome features and a gentle demeanor, he exuded a gentlemanly air. Seeing the eager faces around him, he couldn’t help but smile and ask, "What’s going on, everyone looks so happy?"

"It’s just everyone praising your wife for her beauty and kindness!" someone in the crowd responded with a laugh.

Upon hearing this, the man’s face beamed with joy, and looking at his wife he said, "My wife indeed deserves such praise."

The woman’s cheeks blushed at his words as she gave her husband a tender look, her eyes brimming with love.

The surrounding crowd responded with knowing smiles.

This couple were the proprietors of Cangwu VBuilding, which was not a study as the name might suggest, but a truly named medical shop.

Coming from elsewhere, they had opened this humble pharmacy, treating and curing people, always charging just a minimal fee. With their superior medical skills and low charges, it did not take long for them to become quite reputable within the city.

Unbeknownst to them, their arrival, while welcomed joyously by the commoners, had spoiled the livelihood of some.

At the entrance of a restaurant on the eastern side of the town, a group of people dressed in silk slowly made their way in.

The shop assistant waiting at the door beamed with a fawning smile upon seeing them.

"It’s Boss Li! Please come in!" the shop assistant greeted obsequiously.

Boss Li was tall and sturdy, with a square and dignified face and neatly trimmed black beard—which, combined with his stoic expression, lent him an air of authority.

He nodded at the shop assistant, "Prepare a private room, and bring out all the signature dishes of your establishment," Boss Li instructed.

The shop assistant was clearly thrilled by Boss Li’s order, nodding and smiling incessantly.

After a while, more people arrived, and the shop assistant realized that all of them were influential figures of the city, each sharing a common trait—either they were renowned physicians or merchants in the medicinal trade.
