Chapter 1389 Horror Stories and Wishes

~6 min read 1,101 words

The day had finally arrived.

Over those final three days, every Divine Game player could sense how serious BS Rita had become.

Not only had she granted everyone three more days, she had also issued a global announcement.

It felt less like the start of a game and more like a farewell before a one way journey.

As if she were telling everyone to enjoy themselves while they still could.

Rita was watering Smoke Tune’s flowers in the courtyard when Lightchaser leaned lazily against the doorway and complained,

"You’re killing morale doing this. The game should’ve started immediately. Everyone’s already rested for a hundred years. Giving three extra days won’t make the idiots who wasted that century any stronger."

Rita had long since grown used to Lightchaser’s endless obsession with getting stronger.

But every time she heard this line of thinking, she still wanted to laugh.

Back in Binast, Lightchaser had once seemed like some untouchable legend to her.

This was what true strength looked like.

Every word and decision shaped her apprentice into someone stronger.

Such a professional teacher.

And yet after all these years, Lightchaser still hadn’t changed at all.

Nowadays Rita often felt more mature than her.

Sometimes she looked at Lightchaser the same way adults looked at younger troublemakers.

Of course, if she ever let that expression show, Lightchaser would immediately pull out a dagger.

Rita smiled helplessly and asked,

"Don’t you have anything unfinished? Or regrets you still want to make up for?"

The elf leaning by the doorway stayed silent for a very long time.

Only after Rita finished watering the Heartless Temptation flowers in the yard did Lightchaser finally answer.

"No."

She continued calmly,

"Ever since I missed GodDraw77, I stopped allowing regrets into my life. If one appears, I solve it immediately."

Then she glanced toward Rita.

"You’ve traveled through so many timelines. So whenever we meet in Binast, do I always leave Isolated Isle to find you after the game ends?"

"Yeah."

"Then I have no regrets."

Rita could not resist teasing her.

"Well... not exactly. In one timeline, I died during the BS war. After you left Isolated Isle, you never found me."

That sentence bought her a very long silence.

Did she get angry again?

Rita turned back curiously, only to find the elf staring at her absentmindedly.

"What?"

Lightchaser frowned tightly before shaking her head.

"I don’t like horror stories."

Rita burst out laughing.

Even at dinner that night, the memory still amused her enough that she retold the joke to Cinders.

Cinders laughed too.

Then after calming down, she said,

"That might be the first time I’ve ever heard Lightchaser describe something as horrifying. I honestly thought that word didn’t exist in her vocabulary."

Suddenly the joke did not feel quite as funny anymore.

The next morning, Rita visited Eleanor for breakfast.

The older woman was living very comfortably.

Even during peacetime she remained important, especially considering her daughter was Avery and her granddaughter was BS Rita.

At this point it would have been difficult for her life to turn out badly even if she tried.

Scarlett and Samuel lived on the neighboring street.

Their lives were neither particularly good nor particularly bad.

But with Scarlett around, things rarely became truly miserable.

She was lazy.

Not incapable.

She simply preferred outsourcing hard work whenever possible.

But if she actually wanted money, she could earn it while fooling around.

Back then she filmed videos featuring Black Jade for online media.

Now she bought top tier food from Eleanor and resold it elsewhere.

And besides, she was still technically BS Rita’s mother.

Even if Rita herself ignored her, nobody with common sense would dare mistreat Scarlett.

Especially not when Eleanor openly protected her.

As Rita prepared to leave, Eleanor suddenly asked,

"Do you want to go see them?"

Over the years, Rita visited Eleanor once annually for a meal together.

But this was the first time Eleanor had ever asked that question.

Rita shook her head.

"There’s no need."

She had always known about Avery’s order:

Do not let Scarlett and Samuel live too miserably.

And honestly, it had worked.

The two of them now lived ordinary, unremarkable lives.

That was enough for Rita to finally let go of the lingering guilt over whether she had treated her biological parents too harshly.

In the nearby yard, Nivalis was carefully stacking crates of dragon manure beside Eleanor’s garden while shouting,

"Pasta Princess! Check if this is enough! If not, I can make another box right now!"

The heavy atmosphere shattered instantly.

Rita pressed her fingers against the bridge of her nose with a headache.

"...."

Without another word, she teleported away from Eleanor’s house and appeared directly outside Shadow.Q’s home.

Although Shadow.Q occasionally stayed overnight at Rita’s place after late work reports, most of the time she still lived alone.

Rita had barely raised her hand to knock when the door opened.

Shadow.Q stood there in loose pajamas.

No glasses.

Long hair draped over her shoulders.

A hair tie casually looped around her wrist.

Black linen slippers on her feet.

Without her usual sharp appearance and rigid sense of order, she looked more like the owner of a café or dessert shop.

Warm.

Comfortable.

Human.

Her first sentence was:

"What kind of mission needs you to show up in person? Couldn’t this be a popup notification?"

Rita lifted her chin slightly and copied QM Rita’s tone perfectly.

"Are you complaining? Has my temper been too good lately?"

Shadow.Q’s gaze moved across Rita’s shoulders toward B80 and Nivalis.

"...Which one of you started reading CEO romance novels lately? Did she learn this from you two?"

Nivalis immediately denied it.

"Nope. She just randomly gets weird sometimes. You know how she is."

B80 added seriously,

"You should meet QM Cicada. She’s extremely vulnerable to this style."

Expressionless, Rita smacked both shoulders and knocked the two little troublemakers off.

Trying not to laugh, Shadow.Q led them inside.

She poured everyone their favorite drinks before asking,

"So what’s this about?"

Rita crossed her legs and leaned back against the sofa while examining Shadow.Q’s home.

The decoration style was simple.

No expensive ornaments.

No trophies or medals.

Minimalistic and perfectly organized.

Even the books and glasses on the table were arranged neatly.

The sense of order that had disappeared from Shadow.Q earlier had returned completely.

And now it was everywhere.

After looking around the room, Rita’s gaze settled back on her.

"What wish do you have?"

"I can grant one for you."

Shadow.Q raised an eyebrow.

"Any wish?"

"Any wish."

Rita smiled faintly.

"I’m the Adjudicator."
