Chapter 124: A Long-Awaited Reunion

~7 min read 1,251 words

“Nebu, are you tired?” Bai Yue asked gently, her eyes filled with concern.

Nebu shook her head slightly, a smile tugging at her lips as she whispered, “Mm, not tired.”

Bai Yue and Nebu each held a baby, the infants lying quietly in their arms, sleeping soundly.

Along the way, they walked slowly, pausing often to admire the long-absent yet familiar surroundings.

More than half a month had passed since their return to the Demon Slayer world; after resting for a day with the Demon Slayer Corps, they first took Mitsuji back to Iinuma Village to visit her family.

When Mitsuji’s husband and wife saw their beloved daughter and son-in-law return, especially when they saw each of them holding a tiny baby, their hearts swelled with overwhelming emotion.

They insisted Bai Yue and Mitsuji stay several more days before reluctantly saying farewell.

But those few days were slightly harder for Bai Yue.

Because she was alone with Mitsuji, whether intentional or not, every night Mitsuji found ways to tease Bai Yue.

Naturally, the result was that Bai Yue and Mitsuji kept going until the early hours of the morning before finally resting.

Before leaving, Bai Yue left behind many gifts from his own era for Mitsuji’s parents.

Today, however, he and Nebu returned to Cloud Snow Mountain to visit her family.

“Is that you, Nebu?”

As they passed a small wooden cabin at the foot of Cloud Snow Mountain, an old man called out to her.

“Grandpa Sanro, it’s been a long time.”

Hearing that familiar voice, Sanro confirmed he hadn’t mistaken her.

“Nebu, you’ve finally come back!”

Sanro’s eyes glistened as he hurried forward, studying Nebu closely; though years had passed, he would never mistake that face.

He then turned to Bai Yue and the two babies, his face bright with delight: “Who is this, and these two adorable little ones?”

Nebu took Bai Yue’s hand and smiled as she introduced him: “Grandpa Sanro, this is Bai Yue, my husband. These two are our children.”

Sanro’s eyes widened, then softened into a warm smile: “Good, good, good. You’ve all grown up—and now you have children too. Come inside, sit down, have something warm to eat.”

Unable to refuse such heartfelt hospitality, Bai Yue and Nebu followed the old man into the cabin, where it was warm and tidy.

The old man bustled about, bringing out steaming tea and pastries to welcome them.

Nebu gazed at everything she knew so well, her eyes brimming with nostalgia.

They sat together in a circle as Nebu recounted her years of experiences, with Bai Yue occasionally adding a few words.

The babies stirred in their arms, letting out soft, cooing sounds that added even more warmth to the scene.

Before they knew it, afternoon was drawing near. Bai Yue and Nebu rose to take their leave; before departing, Bai Yue took gifts from his [Nanomaterial Space] and gave them to Grandpa Sanro.

The sudden appearance of objects nearly startled Sanro speechless; after some explanation, though still not fully understanding, he grasped the general idea.

He had intended to refuse, but Bai Yue told him it was merely a token of his heart, so he finally accepted.

He also felt deeply glad for Nebu—she had found such a loving husband.

Grandpa Sanro stood at the door, watching them walk away, murmuring softly: “As long as they’re all well, that’s all that matters.”

Kamado household.

In the courtyard, Kamado Kie was hanging freshly washed bedding on a rack to dry, while Kanao, now a married woman, stood beside her, her belly swollen with child, helping.

“Kanao, you’re pregnant—don’t overexert yourself.”

Kanao shook her head with a smile: “I want to contribute to this family.” Her gaze occasionally drifted toward the charcoal kiln, where Tanjiro was working.

In the five years since the Demon Slayer Corps disbanded, Tanjiro, Kanao, and their family lived in quiet, contented happiness.

With the generous reward they received, they repaired their old home, making it warmer and more comfortable.

Kanao still quietly stood by Tanjiro’s side, just as he always did for her.

After several years of living together, they held a simple yet heartfelt wedding.

They invited their former teammates, all of whom rejoiced sincerely at their happiness.

The only thing that saddened them was that Zero and the others were not there.

Over the years, Kanao had missed her sister and brother-in-law deeply, wondering when they might return to visit.

Thinking of this, she couldn’t help feeling a pang of sadness.

On the other side, Tanjiro had finished storing the freshly burned charcoal and stepped into the front courtyard, where he saw his mother and Kanao. His keen nose caught the scent of longing emanating from her.

Tanjiro walked over and gently took her hand: “Are you thinking of Zero and the others?” Kanao looked up at him and nodded slightly.

“Mm… I wonder how my sister and brother-in-law are doing…”

As she spoke, Tanjiro suddenly noticed two familiar figures approaching from a short distance ahead.

“Is that… Zero-brother! And Nebu?!” Tanjiro cried out in excitement, his voice brimming with joy.

Kanao and Kie followed his gaze, their eyes instantly lighting up.

“It’s really my brother-in-law and Nebu!”

Kanao’s eyes welled with tears.

Kie set down her work and hurried forward: “Zero, Nebu, you’re back!”

Nebu laughed and rushed into Kie’s arms: “Mother, I’m home.”

Bai Yue smiled as he stepped forward: “Tanjiro, Kanao, it’s been a long time.”

Tanjiro scratched his head and grinned: “Zero-brother, you coming here is wonderful—I never thought you’d really bring Nebu back to visit us.”

Only then did everyone notice the babies in their arms. “These are…” Kie asked in surprise.

Nebu beamed: “These are my and Yue’s children.”

“Yue?” The three looked puzzled.

“Actually, my real name isn’t Zero—it’s Bai Yue,” Bai Yue explained.

“Ah, I see.”

Kanao stepped forward and gently touched the babies’ cheeks: “What adorable little ones.”

She also found herself growing more eager for her own child—wondering what it would look like when born.

“Sister, brother-in-law.”

Hearing the commotion in the front courtyard, Takeo, Shigeru, Hanako, and Rokuta burst out of the house, surrounding Bai Yue and Nebu.

So much time had passed—yet these little ones had grown so large.

Kanao suddenly remembered something and tugged Bai Yue’s sleeve: “Brother-in-law, my sister…?”

“Don’t worry—they’re coming too. You’ll see them tomorrow,” Bai Yue gave her a reassuring look, and Kanao finally relaxed.

Everyone gathered around Bai Yue, Nebu, and the two babies, their faces glowing with happiness.

Soon after, they all went inside, warmly catching up, laughter echoing throughout the Kamado household.

At night, Bai Yue activated his [Analytical Glasses] in projection mode, allowing Kanao and the Butterfly sisters to communicate.

After so long apart, Kanao was astonished to learn both her sisters had become mothers.

Kanako and Kanao were equally surprised to learn Kanao was about to become a mother too.

Their long-awaited reunion left them with endless words to share; Bai Yue quietly stepped out of the room, giving them space.

He went to the back courtyard, pulled out a small piece of bread, and tossed it into the air. A white figure shot past, snatched the bread, and landed steadily on Bai Yue’s shoulder.

It occasionally nuzzled his cheek with its small head.

Suyaku, the snow-white messenger crow, had once traveled with Bai Yue, delivering messages and slaying demons.

Though… he only worked one or two days a month—the rest of the time he slacked off.
