Chapter 370: Liu Bei and Cao Cao compete in wealth on the battlefield

In the main tent of the Cao Army,

Cao Cao looked around the room,

"Gentlemen, Yuan Shu has already fled south. The morale of the Shouchun garrison is low. Tomorrow, our army's morale will soar, and we can expect to take the city in one stroke!"

Xia Hou Dun and the others did not understand why the entire army's morale would soar tomorrow, but since the lord said so, it must be true.

Cheng Yu cupped his hands,

"My lord, our current great enemy is Liu Bei. After taking the city tomorrow, we must deal with Liu Bei immediately!"

Cao Cao nodded,

"Correct. Crushing Yuan Shu this time is not difficult; how to keep Liu Bei here is the key."

"I have already contacted Sun Ce, and he is willing to lend me a hand."

Li Dian asked skeptically,

"My lord, the ten thousand cavalry led by Liu Bei are all elites. If he wants to flee, our army may not be able to stop him."

Cao Cao glanced at him.

Cheng Yu understood in a second,

"Gentlemen, Liu Bei is a hypocrite who uses benevolence and virtue to deceive the world. Once Shouchun falls, our army will reward itself by plundering the city. Liu Bei will certainly not allow it. When that happens, we will turn against each other and crush Liu Bei!"

"If Liu Bei abandons the people of Shouchun and flees alone, we can spread word everywhere of his false benevolence and virtue!"

Everyone praised the plan!

Xun Yu frowned; this strategy was truly vicious, using the common people as bargaining chips.

Cao Cao rose to his full height,

"This battle must first take Shouchun, and second, kill Liu Bei! Generals, go and prepare!"

"Understood!"

The next day,

The Cao Army's breakfast was reduced to a single handful of rice and a large pot of water!

The soldiers were furious,

Some beat the cooks,

Others shouted that they wanted to go home!

Cao Cao had the grain officer brought into the tent. Soon, the head of the grain officer was borrowed by Cao Cao and circulated among the three armies!!

Cao Cao walked onto a high platform, which was filled with food, and shouted,

"Listen everyone, the grain officer embezzled food and has already been dealt with according to military law!"

The resentment of the crowd diminished significantly!

"Generals, hear my order: after eating your fill today, break into Shouchun City and plunder for three days!"

"If Shouchun is not taken today, the entire army will be executed!"

The Cao Army soldiers shouted loudly,

"Mighty!"

"Lord Cao is mighty!"

The Cao Army's military might surged, and they attacked the city with all their strength. The troops moved earth and transported stones, filling trenches and blocking moats, ignoring the rain of arrows and stones!

The pressure on the Shouchun garrison increased greatly!

At the South Gate, Liu Bei's side also moved,

Taishi Ci led a thousand elites, the front row raising shields to block the arrows from the city walls!

The longbowmen in the rear fired together, preventing the defenders on the wall from raising their heads.

Taishi Ci shot and killed the garrison Captain with one arrow. Leading by example, he climbed the scaling ladder to the top of the wall, his Mad Song Halberd instantly stabbing several men to death and seizing a favorable position!

"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"

The soldiers behind him followed closely, taking out the crossbows from their backs and wiping out the rushing defenders in one wave!

Soon,

The South Gate was controlled by Taishi Ci!

The other gates of Shouchun were also broken through one after another!

Liu Bei ordered Taishi Ci to open the South Gate and let the people quickly leave the city,

"We are the subordinates of General of the Flying Cavalry, Lord Xuande. Hurry out of the city and head south!"

The people were deeply moved,

"It's Lord Xuande!"

"Hurry, the Cao Army is vicious, let's get out of the city quickly!"

"The Cao Army has already started slaughtering people at the other gates, everyone run!"

"Damn the Cao Army!"

Taishi Ci sent men to maintain order at the gate, having soldiers stand on the rooftops with longbows for defense.

He himself rushed back outside the city,

"Report~!"

"My lord, Cao Cao is personally leading an army of sixty thousand, with his great generals Dian Wei, Cao Ren, Xia Houyuan, Yue Jin, and others, charging toward our army!"

Liu Bei nodded,

"Zhang Fei, Ma Chao, Wu Anguo, and Chen Dao, follow me to kill the enemy!"

"Understood!"

The nine thousand cavalry were divided into three teams,

Zhang Fei's team went straight for the Cao Army's left flank,

Chen Dao and Wu Anguo struck the right flank!

Liu Bei personally led four thousand elites, taking Ma Chao and Taishi Ci to charge at Cao Cao's center army!

Liu Bei shouted loudly,

"Cao Cao, you indulge your subordinates in harming the people; I will certainly stop you!"

Cao Cao stood on his war chariot and also cursed,

"Liu Bei, stop with the false benevolence and virtue! I fought hard to attack the city, and you came over to pick the peaches! Now you are even slaughtering my soldiers!"

"Generals, hear my order: whoever kills Liu Bei will be rewarded with ten thousand gold, promoted five ranks, and enfeoffed as a Marquis!"

Liu Bei also roared,

"Whoever kills Cao Cao will be rewarded with ten thousand gold, promoted five ranks, enfeoffed as a Marquis, and awarded fifty Hu Ren female slaves!"

The soldiers on both sides had eyes shining with greed as they looked at the opposing commander!

Cao Cao...

"I will also award a luxury mansion in Xuxian!"

Liu Bei: "An estate of five hundred acres outside Changancheng!"

Cao Cao continued to raise the stakes: "One thousand acres of fertile land!"

Liu Bei did not show weakness: "An independent pasture! Thousands of cattle and sheep!"

The soldiers on both sides roared as they charged toward each other; there was no need to add more, they had already been given too much!

The broadcast room also laughed,

"Damn, this is showing off wealth!"

"Are the two of them trying to smash each other to death with money?"

"I choose to kill Boss Cao; after all, the Eared Thief is too good at fighting!"

"The soldiers' eyes are all shining; they've been given too much!"

Zhang Fei was the first to charge into the Cao Army, ===== CHAPTER 371 =====
