Chapter 411

~6 min read 1,120 words

The Imp represented House Lannister in thanking Liu Bei for rescuing Jaime, offering fifty thousand gold dragons as a reward.

Having seized a portion of Old Frey’s accumulated wealth, Liu Bei was not particularly desperate for gold dragons, but who would ever complain about having too much money?

The Hound also received his pardon; he felt as though he were living in a dream.

"I’ve become a hero too? To hell with it! It really does pay to follow the right person."

Early the next morning,

Liu Bei accepted Joffrey’s reluctant investiture at the Red Keep, officially becoming the Count of the Twins.

He presented letters from Lord Tully of Riverrun and the Northern lords, expressing his continued unity under the Iron Throne.

With this, the entire continent of Westeros seemed to enter a period of beautiful peace once more.

Liu Bei looked at Margaery, whom he had not seen for a long time; the two seemed ready to spark high-voltage electricity between them.

Joffrey longed to duel Liu Bei on the spot, but he knew he could not win.

"Since you’ve returned, I have a hundred ways to deal with you!"

Tywin appointed Liu Bei as a general of the City Watch, responsible for maintaining order in King’s Landing—a way of placing him under house arrest in the capital.

Liu Bei did not mind; many major events were still to occur in King’s Landing, and he naturally could not miss them, such as Joffrey being poisoned or Tywin being shot by the Imp in the privy...

"Count Cas, thank you for killing Old Frey and Bolton."

Sansa expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Liu Bei. When she heard that her mother and eldest brother had died tragically at the Red Wedding, she fainted from grief.

Liu Bei had helped her avenge them so quickly, which made her feel deeply grateful toward him.

Liu Bei said gently,

"It is a pity I arrived too late and could not save them."

"Everything is fate."

"Thank you for burying them properly."

"My condolences..."

Liu Bei added,

"Sansa, I have just rescued your sister Arya."

Tears streamed down Sansa’s face.

"Thank goodness, she is still alive."

The two drew closer and closer.

Margaery could not bear to watch any longer.

"Ahem."

She reminded Sansa that she already had a husband, the Imp, even if that husband had been forced upon her by Tywin.

The Imp observed from the shadows, but he felt no jealousy; he had been arranged by Tywin and had no feelings for Sansa at all.

The Imp was fond of the prostitute Shae.

Both of them were pitiful souls!

Littlefinger, however, felt a great sense of crisis.

He planned to go to the Eyrie to marry Sansa’s aunt, control the Vale, and then use Sansa to control the North!

Now, this Cas had won the favor of the Northern and Riverlands lords, and it seemed he was also making a move on Sansa; this was something he could not tolerate.

"It seems the rumors about him and Margaery must be spread even more fiercely." ===== CHAPTER 723 =====

In the afternoon, Liu Bei went to visit the Queen of Thorns at the Tyrell residence.

"Cas, your excellence has exceeded my expectations."

The Queen of Thorns pulled Liu Bei to sit down.

"I intend to marry the best rose of House Tyrell to you."

Liu Bei laughed,

"My lady, I fear the King might not agree."

The Queen of Thorns chuckled,

"It seems you two haven't considered Joffrey's feelings either."

She hinted that she already knew something.

The Queen of Thorns clapped her hands, and a subordinate walked in holding a longsword.

Liu Bei took the sword and drew it; it shimmered with cold light and was exceptionally sharp.

"Oh? It’s actually a Valyrian steel sword!"

The Queen of Thorns smiled,

"This sword is called Lamentation, once held by House Royce of Runestone in the Vale. It cost me three hundred thousand gold dragons, and its value is even higher now. I give it to you, hoping you will let it shine brilliantly."

Liu Bei liked this sword very much. Valyrian steel swords were extremely precious; each one could become a family heirloom. Even Joffrey only had one, Widow’s Wail, which was one of two forged after Tywin melted down Ned’s sword.

Moreover, swords of this material possessed fire magic properties and could kill White Walkers; they were invaluable.

Liu Bei laughed,

"My lady, thank you for the sword."

The Queen of Thorns waved her hand,

"The most precious golden rose of our house has already been plucked by you; what is this sword in comparison?"

"Very well, go see her. She probably blames me for talking too much."

Liu Bei tucked the sword into his belt and went to Margaery’s courtyard.

A wave of fragrance washed over him.

"Little thief, how dare you sneak into my chambers!"

Liu Bei casually pulled Margaery into his arms.

"How dare you attack this Count? Does my Countess agree to this?"

Margaery struck Liu Bei.

"I am to become Joffrey’s bride in three days!"

Liu Bei’s eyes lit up.

"Then we must make the most of our time!"

He scooped Margaery up in his arms, and naturally, the two talked nearly until dawn; they had too much to say to each other!

Liu Bei looked at the sleeping Margaery and thought to himself,

"Only three days left. Poor Joffrey is about to be poisoned. I only have three days to win over Sansa—it’s tight!"

"Arya already calls me brother-in-law; I cannot let her down."

If Margaery knew that Liu Bei was eating from the bowl while eyeing what was in the pot, she would probably wake up in a rage!

At noon that day, Sansa sat alone in the Godswood by the sea.

Liu Bei flashed out from the woods, holding a bouquet of flowers.

"Beautiful Lady Sansa, we are truly fated."

Sansa was delighted, "Count Cas."

Liu Bei walked over and handed her the flowers.

"I still prefer you calling me Liu; it’s much more intimate."

The two began to chat.

"Liu, can you tell me how you killed Old Frey and Bolton..."

Liu Bei explained the matter in detail.

"Sansa, do you think I am cruel?"

Sansa suddenly threw herself into Liu Bei’s arms.

"No, I think you are a hero. These villains deserved it!"

Liu Bei patted her back and said gently,

"My poor girl, if you want to cry, just let it out."

Sansa buried her head and wept, her tears falling like rain.

Liu Bei patted her shoulder,

"Sansa, I swear I will avenge you. I will not let House Lannister go!"

Sansa’s favor for Liu Bei grew beyond measure.
