Chapter 529

"Understood!"

Yuan Shao and Cao Cao watched Liu Bei's troops opposite them; their formation was neat, their morale was high, and their military discipline was strict.

Even when changing formations, they were orderly, fluid, and natural, leaving no flaws to exploit!

"Strong troops!"

Cao Cao wanted to crush Liu Bei even more; otherwise, if Liu Bei were allowed to develop in peace, he would truly be unstoppable.

Yuan Shao looked at the formation opposite him.

"Gao Lan, use the chariot formation to tear open Liu Bei's defensive line for me!"

"Understood!"

The Allied drums beat loudly, and the horns sounded long and clear.

Nearly a thousand chariots began to accelerate, charging toward Liu Bei's side; dust flew, and the earth shook.

The sharp blades rotating with the axles glinted with a cold light, destined to tear open Liu Bei's defensive line.

The cavalry followed closely behind.

The heavy shield-bearers and halberdiers followed them!

The crossbowmen also advanced!

"Roar~~ Roar~~"

"Kill!"

Nearly a hundred thousand troops swarmed toward Liu Bei's side!

Yuan Shao laughed heartily.

"Liu Bei, no matter how good you are at fighting, can you kill my hundred-thousand-strong army?"

The chariots were fast, the dust they kicked up soared into the clouds, rushing toward this side like a rolling torrent.

On Liu Bei's side, the drums sounded, and under the command,

the heavy shield-bearers in the front row retreated.

Revealed were several hundred small, mobile bed-crossbows!

They were already loaded with giant arrows, about three feet five inches long; rather than giant arrows, they were more like javelins.

The tail feathers of the giant arrows were three iron vanes, like three long swords, with immense lethality.

These bed-crossbows were improved by Huang Yueying and Ma Jun, who worked with craftsmen day and night, and were built through overtime, costing a huge sum!

"Fire!"

Liu Ye was temporarily acting as the commander of these bed-crossbow troops. As his order was given, the war drums suddenly sounded.

"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"

Hundreds of giant arrows whistled toward Yuan Shao's chariots!

"Puff, puff, puff."

The armored warhorses pulling the chariots could not withstand the attack of the giant arrows at all; they were instantly pierced through and collapsed to the ground with a boom.

The chariots also lost their balance, and men and horses tumbled!

Some giant arrows slammed into the soldiers on the chariots, carrying them directly ten meters away, blood splattering everywhere!

In just one round of strikes, nearly two hundred chariots were directly scrapped, and the chariots behind crashed into them, causing even more damage!

"Swish! Swish! Swish!"

The soldiers quickly reloaded the crossbow bolts, and two more rounds of bed-crossbow bombardment followed.

Most of the chariots that Yuan Shao had spent a fortune to build were basically scrapped!

Yuan Shao was dumbfounded, his heart dripping with blood!

"No!"

Xu You hurriedly suggested,

"My lord, the bed-crossbows need time to reload; quickly send the heavy shield-bearers to the front to charge Liu Bei's camp!"

"Good, give the order quickly!"

The sound of the horns changed.

Yuan Shao's heavy shield-bearers assembled in a tight formation, blocking in front of the troops to avoid being harvested by Liu Bei's Vanguard Camp's powerful crossbows.

As long as they could charge over and engage in hand-to-hand combat with Liu Bei's troops, their numerical advantage could still turn the tide of the battle!

Liu Ye narrowed his eyes.

"Let the thunder-bolt carts begin their attack!"

"Understood!"

The thunder-bolt carts were actually improved mobile catapults.

Dozens of hurriedly built thunder-bolt carts instantly began to show their power!

Yuan Shao's heavy shield-bearers were lined up tightly, making them perfect targets for the catapults.

"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"

Giant stones and ignited oil jars whistled toward Yuan Shao's heavy shield-bearers, smashing into the dense infantry formation and causing massive casualties!

Some soldiers were ignited by the oil, screaming miserably, knocking the formation into disarray!

Other soldiers were also affected; the giant stones falling from above would take their lives if they were not careful!

The thunder-bolt carts mercilessly poured giant stones onto this side!

The bed-crossbows had also reloaded their giant arrows.

Without any hesitation, they fired once again into the dense formation of the Yuan army!

The heavy shields were directly knocked away by the giant arrows, and the soldiers behind them vomited blood; they simply could not withstand the impact of the giant arrows.

Ju Yi's Vanguard Camp took the opportunity to fire crossbow bolts, harvesting the lives of the Yuan soldiers behind the heavy shields!

The Yuan army, bombarded by the bed-crossbows and thunder-bolt carts, already had an unstable formation.

At this moment, arrows rained down from the opposite side, causing even greater casualties!

The soldiers' screams and bright red blood poured out incessantly, and soldiers fell in batches!

But at this point, there was no way to retreat; they could only continue to charge!

Yuan Shao drew his sword.

"Anyone who speaks of retreat today dies!"

"Keep charging for me, kill!"

The Yuan army's war drums grew louder, and tens of thousands of Yuan soldiers bit the bullet and charged forward!

In fact, the casualties caused by the thunder-bolt carts were limited, but the deterrent effect was greater.

The two sides grew closer and closer.

The Yuan army paid the price of over ten thousand casualties and finally killed their way over.

Ju Yi gave an order, the heavy shields were raised, and long spears thrust out from the gaps, preparing for close-quarters combat!

Shields blocked, long spears thrust out, halberds snapped, and batches of soldiers fell!

Blood splattered, screams and roars rose one after another.

The soldiers on both sides had killed until their eyes were red.

At this point, there was no way to retreat; they could only step on corpses and attack forward!

The situation on the Cao army side was also deadlocked, and after paying the lives of several thousand soldiers, they finally approached Gao Shun's Camp-Crushing Battalion!

The two armies soon fell into hand-to-hand combat with swords and spears!
