Chapter 1138

And the regent Grand Tutor Yuan Kui stood on the steps leading to the dragon throne.

As for Duan Yu, he stood in the first row along with Cui Lie, Zhang Wen, Ma Ridi, and He Jin.

Jian Shuo, as the commander of the Forbidden Army, now stood to the side of the great hall, completely replacing the positions once held by Zhang Rang and Zhao Zhong.

As for Zhang Rang and Zhao Zhong, they did not appear in the great hall.

"If the officials have matters to report, speak; if not, the court is dismissed."

Accompanied by the announcement of the minor eunuch before the hall, the court session officially began.

And the first to step out was not Duan Yu, but Guo Hong, who had been responsible for investigating Zhang Feng yesterday.

"Your subject, Guo Hong, has a matter to report."

Guo Hong, holding his tablet, stepped forward and bowed.

Empress Dowager Dong, kneeling beside little Liu Xie, waved her sleeve.

And Yuan Kui, standing on the steps, frowned.

Having received permission, Guo Hong glanced at the back of Duan Yu in the front row and then bowed, saying: "Empress Dowager, after investigation, I have found that there are many problems regarding the case of the attempt on the Emperor's life."

"The jade pill previously consumed by the Emperor was not poisonous, as evidenced by multiple verifications by the imperial physicians."

"And the Sili Colonel Dong Zhuo also tested it before offering the medicine to the Emperor; before the Emperor used the medicine, it was tested."

"All of the above can serve as evidence that the jade pill was non-toxic."

"Later, upon careful examination, I discovered that the Emperor felt slightly unwell after taking the jade pill and had summoned the Imperial Physician Director Zhang Feng into the palace for a diagnosis."

"And after diagnosing the Emperor, the Imperial Physician Director Zhang Feng prescribed medicine."

"Later, I re-examined this prescription and found that the drugs used in the prescription and the drugs used in the jade pill were pharmacologically contradictory and mutually destructive."

"Therefore, it caused the Emperor's severe illness."

"Thus, I believe that the jade pill case is unrelated to Sili Colonel Dong Zhuo, and was the work of Imperial Physician Director Zhang Feng."

"But whether Zhang Feng did it intentionally, I am still investigating."

"However, it is certain that the jade pill case is unrelated to Sili Colonel Dong Zhuo."

Yesterday afternoon, when Guo Hong and Duan Yu arrested Zhang Feng, the ins and outs of the matter had already spread throughout Luoyang.

Such a major event could not be hidden in Luoyang at all.

Therefore, when Guo Hong spoke these words, the officials in the great hall were not surprised.

As for Guo Hong's statement that the jade pill case was unrelated to Dong Zhuo, no one spoke up to refute it.

And Yuan Kui, standing on the steps, did not say anything either.

Duan Yu stood straight, saying nothing.

"Such a mediocre person, even if not intentional, deserves to die!"

Empress Dowager Dong said through gritted teeth: "Interrogate him with harsh torture to see what his intentions were!"

"Understood!" Guo Hong replied.

After the matter of Zhang Feng was finished, no one else spoke.

Empress Dowager Dong, kneeling beside little Liu Xie, looked at Duan Yu and then cast her gaze upon the officials in the great hall: "I have a matter to announce today."

"Lord Duan has long resided in Liangzhou, and last year he opened up the Western Regions route; this is a merit for the Great Han that will last a hundred years."

"I am thinking, if Lord Duan can subdue the entire Western Regions and incorporate them into the territory of the Great Han, this would be the merit of expanding the borders."

"Since the founding of the Great Han, no one has ever had such merit."

"Therefore, to show my reward, I have decided that if Lord Duan can incorporate the entire Western Regions into the Great Han, I will confer upon Lord Duan the title of King of Xiliang."

Hiss!

Once Empress Dowager Dong said this, a sound of gasping echoed through the great hall.

King of Xiliang!

Conferring a king!

This...

Empress Dowager Dong was actually going to confer a king title on Duan Yu!

Yuan Kui, He Jin, including the Three Excellencies and Nine Ministers, all the officials standing in the court at this moment widened their eyes in astonishment. ===== CHAPTER 1140 =====
