Chapter 549: Old wolf, corrupt Confucian, Empress! [2]

Inside the Minister of Works' mansion.

In the dim study, Yuan Kui, who was kneeling behind the desk, was draped in a thick coat.

The room was also lit with vigorous charcoal fire.

Yuan Shao and Yuan Shu were kneeling in front of Yuan Kui's desk at this time.

Listening to Yuan Kui's praise for Yuan Shao, Yuan Shu's mouth was already curled to the Northern Palace, turning his face away to avoid looking at Yuan Shao.

"Not bad."

Yuan Kui knelt behind the desk, looking at Yuan Shao with appreciation and said: "Your performance this time is not bad. I have also read the memorial of merit submitted to the Emperor."

"Breaking the city first, you deserve the top merit."

Yuan Shao knelt in front of Yuan Kui with his back straight.

But when Yuan Kui mentioned the top merit, the proud expression on Yuan Shao's face stiffened slightly, and then he said: "Uncle, this time... this time the top merit should be Duan Yu's, I only..."

Before Yuan Shao could finish his words, Yuan Kui's eyes, which were like those of an old wolf, lifted to look at Yuan Shao.

Yuan Shao immediately shut his mouth.

"Whether it is the top merit, it is not for you to say, and naturally it is not for Duan Yu to say either." Yuan Kui's eyes narrowed slightly.

Yuan Shao pursed his lips without refuting.

"Regarding your reward, it will come down in these two days," Yuan Kui continued: "After the New Year, you can go to Jizhou to take office as the Governor of Weijun."

Yuan Shu, who was kneeling beside Yuan Shao, finally softened his stiff face when he heard that Yuan Shao was going to Weijun in Jizhou.

He Lingsi hoped he could join the He clan and act as a knife for their relatives.

"Uncle..." Yuan Shao hesitated for a moment and asked: "What about Duan Yu?"

"In this Liangzhou battle, Duan Yu's contribution is the greatest... but I heard that many people in the court are impeaching Duan Yu recently, saying that Duan Yu is causing chaos in Liangzhou."

Yuan Kui looked up, glanced at Yuan Shao, and asked: "Since you mentioned this matter, then tell me, how do you see this matter?"

Me?

Yuan Shao was stunned.

This was clearly that someone in the court had started to fear Duan Yu.

Liang Gu's death made those Pure Stream scholars in Luoyang feel like they were on pins and needles.

Some rumors had already linked Duan Yu with Duan Jiong.

"I... I think they just want to take the opportunity to suppress Duan Yu because Liang Gu was killed," Yuan Shao said after careful consideration: "They feel that Duan Yu is too close to the eunuchs and are worried that Duan Yu will become the next Duan Jiong."

"Uncle, Duan Yu's father-in-law, Dong Zhuo, was recommended by you, and regarding the attack on the Western Qiang, you also agreed."

"If you really let Cui Lie, Ma Ridi, and those Pure Stream members impeach him in front of the Emperor, wouldn't it also blame you?"

"So..."

Yuan Kui's eyes narrowed and he said: "So, you intend for me to help Duan Yu?"

Yuan Shao nodded slightly: "Yes, Uncle."

"Pfft." Yuan Shu took the opportunity to snort coldly: "What is Duan Yu's status, and what is Uncle's status?"

"Don't look at how much you weigh, wanting to ask Uncle to help?"

"That Dong family son still understands some etiquette, what does Duan Ziyi have?"

"I only saw him bribing Zhang Rang and others, and I have never seen him come to visit Uncle."

"Now that he is in trouble, he thinks of Uncle?"

Seeing that Yuan Shao did not speak, Yuan Shu continued to mock: "Why, could it be that you went to Liangzhou once and were convinced by that Duan Ziyi?"

"You really treat Duan Ziyi as a partisan?"

Yuan Shao frowned, did not refute Yuan Shu, but looked at Yuan Kui.

Yuan Kui tightened his coat and said: "There is one thing Gonglu said correctly."

"Everything must be distinguished by primary and secondary. You can make friends, and you can help friends, but first, you must understand one truth." ===== CHAPTER 551 =====
